The mainboard in my notebook died. I need to back up my SSD, but am not sure how. I took it to the local cable shop, and they said I should buy their NGFF to SATA converter (after which it would be able to plug into my old notebook). However, while the pins look the same, it doesn't fit, so I took that back, but they couldn't help me further. I think the SSD is PCIe, anyway here is a picture of it (note the text to the right, where it says PCIe NVMe):

I don't think any controllers exist that can do NVME over USB. You're best off putting it in a new board that also has an M.2 slot.

Ok... so rather than back up the disk, fix the notebook. I'm not sure it's worth the money :/ But what you're saying is that if it's not worth the money, I need to buy a new notebook that has a similar NVME PCIe slot?

I also have a notebook that has a usb c port. I saw some reports of external NVME USB C hard disks, but haven't found any for sale (and haven't found an adapter either), so I guess they don't actually exist, and are just ideas and prototypes at trade shows?

Anyone know if the win 7 daz loader will work with win XP? Or you have to have win 7 to begin with? I tried installing win 7 with the chew loader through a flash drive but it said it's not compatible with the OS which is XP.

Just got a Dell S2417DG. It appears to only be outputting 60hz instead of the desginated 165hz. It's connected via the DisplayPort cable that came with it. I already changed the NVIDIA settings/resolution (shown below). Is there another step I'm supposed to take to make the monitor actually output 165hz?

What makes you say it only appears to be doing 60hz? Have you tried it at 144hz? Is G-Sync turned on?

TestUFO.com shows a refresh rate of 60hz. G-Sync is turn on.

Edit: I'm dumb. Installed monitor driver and updated graphics card driver and everything is fine now.

Don't use a web browser and a website to test this. Use a normal program, something that you know can do very high fps like CS:Go for example.

Can't find the exact specs in English (I think I posted them here a bit back), but there's a review that goes into a little bit of detail on the SSD here:

There are slots for a 2.5-inch hard drive, RAM, and a M.2-2280 beneath the maintenance hatch. The M.2 slot is free in our test model.

Would I be able to plug my SSD in here to back it up? It's also a bit bigger, so that would help too, I guess, but seeing as my drive didn't fit into the M.2 converter thing that I first thought would work, I now don't know whether it will fit in this notebook either.

my monitor has random white pulses of a few hundred or dozens pixels in a line in the top right when at 144hz+1440p, is that the display port cable?

It doesnt seem to happen at lower rates.

Hi guys, my computer freezes frequently (stuck mouse arrow, no reaction at all, hard reset required). What could be the problem? I've run windows memtest, no problems there.

Is it overclocked? That's the kind of result you often see with that when you've got an unstable clock & voltage. Systems usually don't have undervolting problems on stock settings, but it isn't unheard of.

As I recall there are some under-clocking settings and load line stuff in the BIOS you can turn down or disable to test, but I don't remember the specifics.

Best Buy just had a sale on the XB270HU IPS 1440p 144hz Gsync monitor tonight for $600. Considering I was still debating on getting that Dell s2716dg instead but missed the sale on that at $475, I'm glad I was able to pick this up instead. I can't justify spending $300+ over that Dell just to get an IPS panel, but I'll gladly pay $125 for it. Wish me luck on the panel lottery guys!

Looks like they sold out pretty quick too haha. 30 minutes after I bought one on their website, the monitor was sold out. It'd been on sale for about 9 hours at that point I believe. Doesn't surprise me. That's the lowest price I've ever seen for a top of the line monitor.

i'm trying to change the default file association for photos in win10 and i can't.
the program i want to associate the photos with is not installed(came in a .zip file) and i can't find it anywhere in default apps/set default apps settings.
i can associate it with files based on individual extensions (.jpg, .bmp, etc)but that's so tedious.

it's something i'm missing?; can i somehow see 'portable' programs in default apps options?.

Right now on my HP laptop my function keys are set as primary (as in, I don't have to hold the fn key to turn up the volume). Is there a way to switch that? Gets in the way of playing Sc2, which is annoying.

Also, is there a way to disable a trackpad?

You can usually disable it inside a program related to the trackpad itself. Often there's something in your system tray or a tab in control panel > mouse. If not, look up the drivers/software for your laptop and that'll probably have it. Function key inversion is usually in the same place.

check in the BIOS/UEFI settings. Quite often the option to switch function keys behaviour is there.
You should be able to enter BIOS on HP via either F10 or ESC after turning laptop on.
