its £100 inc delivery on amazon to the UK tho there is a "lite" version (which is region locked to the EU i guess) , dont know what else about it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=Mikrotik RouterBoard i mean i dont mind paying the money but i just dont have any right now lol so will have to wait ok so this router is WIRELESS yeah even tho there is no antenna? so how would the range on it be compared to the virgin Super Hub 2? would that possibly be an issue for housemates? so i would need to put my Virgin Super Hub into modem mode then plug this one in then get my housemates to connect to this one (wirelessly)

The HAP AC LITE is only good for 100mbps (no gigabit ethernet) and has kinda decent wireless (2 chain 2.4 GHz and 1 chain 5 GHz). It also has a weaker CPU, so it might max out under 100 mbps if there is a lot of traffic that needs shaping (eg torrents). http://www.eurodk.com/en/products/rb951/routerboard-hap-ac-lite The HAP AC has excellent triple chain dual radio wireless, so if you guys are connecting wirelessly it will help a lot in general (using 5 GHz for example is usually a lot more stable than 2.4 GHz). It also has a faster CPU so it can handle more traffic, if it's anything like the older model I have here it will be good for up to ~200mbps of QoS traffic shaping. http://www.eurodk.com/en/products/rb951/routerboard-hap-ac If you don't need wireless, the HEX is the best choice. http://www.eurodk.com/en/products/rb750/routerboard-hex You're correct in the setup - you'd put your current router/modem into modem only mode, then use the Mikrotik for all your wireless / wired connections. Yes, this gear is definitely more expensive than your off-the-shelf router, but it's much higher quality and incredibly stable (forget about ever having to reboot your router to fix something).

Where are you located? Could you try and do 2 things ; Go to Start --> type in "CMD" --> Enter; type "tracert lux.valve.net" (EU West 1) and wait. type "tracert sto.valve.net" (Russia 1) and wait. Do the same when your housemate is online. Does the last result differ? Does one significantly change? Does there appear an 'extra hop'? From my work location in NL (Amsterdam) I get roughly the same ping for both EU West and Russia. So these servers don't differ much from eachother

Anybody know why it's doing this, or if I might have accidentally done something to cause this? It's annoying that it's at the top of my screen instead of centered in the middle.

But I disabled that and restarted firefox and same problem. For good measure I've disabled my plugins and restarted, but same problem still. Hmmm. I just edited the url to check if that was the problem. It appears that .gifv links appear at the top but .gif links are centered in the middle.

That tends to be the culprit for most browser formatting issues.

Funnily enough, haven't ran into the issue as much the past few days. Doesn't seem to be all that much a problem for me to worry about trying to fix it. New question regarding monitors again. My current monitor is 1080p 24in IPS. I really like it because the IPS looks great, but it's only 1080p and 60hz. I was looking at the 2 current top-end 1440p dell monitors. One is 24in 1440p, and the other is 27in 1440p. I can't decide which one I want to get most though. 1440p at 24in has a super high PPI, but I sort of like the size of my current monitor and I think if I went with a dual monitor setup, keeping both the monitors at the same size would be for the best (even though they're different resolutions). On the other hand, I wonder how much benefit I'd be losing by not going with the 1440p at 27in. It'd have a more reasonable PPI, and I feel like the images on it might look better for the sole reason that they'd be larger, and the extra sharpness of the 24in monitor would be wasted on me. But then again, if I go dual monitor, it seems like having two different sized monitors would sorta suck. Any opinions? I've also read that Windows scaling with two different resolution monitors sorta sucks, so the issue might be worse with the 24in monitor. Any workarounds for that? Running Windows 7 btw. edit: What if I got the 24in monitor and ran it in 1080p for desktop use, switching to 1440p when I game? Is there a way to do that quickly and/or automatically without going into the control panel? I feel like I'd probably use my current monitor for regular web browsing and desktop use more than the 1440p monitor anyways, so it wouldn't matter to me too much if it looked slightly blurry while in the desktop, though ideally it'd still be nice if there was a way to do separate monitor DPI scaling in Windows 7. edit2: Man, should I even use 2 monitors? Argh, choices!

Running the 24 inch 1440p monitor at 1080p isn't a good idea, at least for me. It breaks the "sub-pixel LCD filter" for text rendering which normally makes text use triple the resolution in the horizontal direction on an LCD monitor. This sub-pixel stuff won't work if you aren't using the monitor at its native resolution so you lose some extra sharpness for text. You actually seem to need a 32 inch size to make a 1440p screen have the same pixel size as a 24 inch 1080p screen. Things will already shrink a good bit on the 27 inch screen so you might want to try to use a slightly different DPI scaling setting in Windows (like 125% for example). It should run well enough with programs nowadays as laptops are very popular where people like using an increased size for text and buttons on 1080p. Things will look large on your old screen that you'll use a second monitor, but that probably won't be bad thing for a second monitor.

The 27inch dell is more expensive, but I think I have my choice now.

As a 1440p user, I recommend buying 1080p monitors.
