1. Built computer with 840 EVO for boot and 1TB WD for storage. Concurrently installed the first "fix" (November/December?) for the 840 EVO. 2. Mechanical HD (1TB WD) failed within a couple months. 3. Since my sister lives far away and knows nothing about computers, took me a few months to get the computer to send in the HD under warranty. 4. When I get the computer, it won't boot. In the interim, they had completely filled the SSD. SSD giving BSOD with "BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO" stop message. I am wondering why the SSD won't boot. Is it because they completely filled the drive, which I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to do, or because it's failing? I never installed the second "fix" (April firmware). | ||

screwed hdd/ram or you need to reinstall the OS. | ||

Windows 8.1 N editions have been designed to give you most of the features of Windows 8.1—with the addition of choice. There are three Windows 8.1 N editions: Windows 8.1 N,Windows 8.1 Pro N, and Windows 8.1 Pro Pack N. The N editions of Windows 8.1 allow you to choose your own media player and software required to manage and play CDs, DVDs, and other digital media files. If you choose to use Windows Media Player 12, downloading it, along with related software, is free. Windows 8.1 N editions are available for customers who live in countries that are part of the European Economic Area and Switzerland. I don't know what that upgrade means on the last edition should be safe with 8.1 pro 64 bit. Also note that any windows 7/8 users get free update to windows 10 which could launch as soon as in 2 months (AMD CEO said late july on a conference call) and even though you might not want to grab it immediately, it's a good idea to use that free upgrade window within 1 year of launch if you're a gamer because dx12 support will be important quite quickly. It pretty drastically lowers CPU demands in some situations and API changes can make big performance differences in CPU bound games (30%-50%+) | ||

I need a router for a mid-sized 3 stories house. Currently using a Linksys E4200, but the signal is poor in the kitchen and only decent upstairs. Budget is CA$150-200 (holy shit routers have gotten expensive). Essentially, the two things I want is reliability, so it's good if I don't have to restart it too often, and I want range. Not really interested in range extenders, they haven't been good in my experience, but let me know if you think it'd be preferable. Cheers and thanks! | ||

well, lately i started getting weird video freezes on streams (audio was running fine thow) and i found adblock latitude to be the culprit. thing is, i'm getting the same stream stop you get and so far, i've no idea why. it happens most of the times when i have multiple streams opened and on the tabs that are muted and in background/not currently viewed. i'd say it started happening 2 weeks ago or so, out of nowhere. | ||

A more certain approach is router on middle floor, drill holes in corner of floor/ceiling, then run cable to each of the other floors and connect wireless access points (you can install switches if you'd like for hard-wiring the other floors). They sell these things that you can put in the corner of the wall to cover up the cable. They work pretty well for aesthetics. At my parents house we wanted hard-wiring in the bedrooms so ran a cable from middle floor corner to upper floor in the back of a closet, where we connected switch. Don't forget to have power outlets near where your cable ends up on the other floors. Another approach is to use repeaters on the other floors; the lowest floor you could ceiling-mount (or mount high on a wall). If I'm not mistaken they make smartphone apps that do pretty well at measuring signal strength and interference to see if a wireless solution is tenable. | ||
