In the Windows Control Panel, somewhere in the details window of the power profile you are using, there's a section to configure sleep. Make sure "allow hybrid sleep" is set to "off" over there. + Show Spoiler + There's two methods to suspend the machine. The normal standby method keeps supplying power to the RAM and is fast to resume. The other method is "hibernate" where the RAM will be copied to the drive and is slow, but upside is that you can pull the power cable without Windows crashing. "Hybrid sleep" is doing both at the same time. The machine is in normal standby so that it can resume fast, but it additionally writes a copy of the RAM contents to the drive for insurance. My MSI Gaming 970 is extremely quiet, i've only seen significantly worse temperatures on other coolers. I think that says, above anything else, that having basic case cooling (at least like ~3 decent case fans in good positions) is essentially for a mid-high end GPU to run cool and quiet, because i have seen too many reports of people with very limited case airflow having those bad temps. If you have "ok" case airflow (it doesn't have to be amazing, but a few intake fans and an exhaust on a good position are invaluable, even at low RPM) then i think the Giga G1, MSI gaming and Asus STRIX card are all ok, in that order of preference. The power limit on the g1 is 280 watts which is untouchable with these GPU's. MSI gaming has ~220w, which you'll hit with some particularly power heavy games and benchmarks if you're overvolting to 1.25. The STRIX is ~196w, afaik, which i would imagine to be a little more annoying for overclocking. The 1.2v to 1.25v overvolt seems out of the sweet spot for the GPU's and for me, it's around a 10% increase in power consumption for only 2% extra performance, so i use it for benchmarking but not for gaming

When I scroll on browsers using my mouse wheel, my computer makes that electric "thinking" type of sound like you might hear when it's loading a program or playing a game or something. It's probably coil whine if I had to guess. When I restart my computer, the noise goes away for a few hours so that I don't get it when I scroll, but then it comes back. It's just mildly annoying is all.

Load screens in games can be rendered at a very high FPS, same thing for some games. Your GPU will whine at very high FPS generally speaking. It should go away with time if it's really coil whine. You can try to eliminate it with furmark or the crysis menu, not sure if it'll work. Basically you leave your card to whine alone for a few hours (or overnight) and after that the coil whine should get better.

This happens even when just scrolling through a web browser with the mouse wheel? I should add, when I turn off smartscroll so it jumps instantly, I don't get the noise.

Yeah I thought that as well but mouse-scrolling doesn't make sense to me. However I know that the GPU can whine in game menus and sometimes when scrolling some web pages. Though yeah, "thinking sound" makes you think of an HDD! :p

![]() 660 (nvidia fact sheet: 140w) 760 (nvidia fact sheet: 170w) I start to worry about the availability of the 660's :/ If it's possible to upgrade to a 660 i may should consider to buy one soon. A 970 would work then too i guess, but ... that's a lot of money for a graphic card! oO

You should get the 760 or wait for the release of the GTX 960. A 450W PSU should handle any of these cards easily, as long as it's well-made. Get the XFX Pro 450W. It's a very solid unit that is king of cost-efficiency since it's very good yet quite cheap. The Corsair CS isn't that great. Another possibility is getting a GTX 750 Ti which will approach the performance of a GTX 660 if you overclock it. http://www.amazon.de/XFX-P1-450S-X2B9-Edition-Wired-PC-Netzteil/dp/B005FPT38U/ref=pd_sim_sbs_computers_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=02T8P8EQF02EYQKAPCZG

Today i read the recommanded specifications of Dragon Age: Inqusition... man i'm not sure if my current setup (i5 2500k, 8gb, ssd, gtx460) comes as smooth through the next year as it has in its past TT So a complete new setup seems to be around the corner. I don't want to buy a addition/new psu. Just a new graphic card, cause i think it is bottlenecking :/ If i can get away with a 760 without a new psu, i would choose this option. Thanks mate! ![]()

http://www.jonnyguru.com/modules.php?name=NDReviews&op=Story4&reid=366 Problem is that it's so expensive that other PSUs become much more interesting than this one, basically. E: yeah you can keep that PSU and get a GTX 760, no problem. if you don't get your GPU very soon it might be worth waiting for the gtx 960, though that might have been postponed to january.

I though around christmas, Jan/Feb at the latest . The prices should raise and fall during this time. So i will keep my eyes close to the 760, and if the 960 looks like to be the general better choice, i'll pick it! Thanks again! ![]()
