Hello,
Since a couple of months if been having some problems with the heat of my pc. Basically for like 1,5-2 months the fan's were running at full speed, like continuesly even when I was idling/away.. So recently I started to check in on it, and the second I lowered the settings on the fan using MSI afterburner the gpu went up crazy high, so I figured there was probably just too much dust in the pc so today I cleaned it, and when it's stable/idle the GPU is still at ~50+/- degrees(While the GPU usage is around 2-3%), and when I launched sc2 and just stayed on the menu it went up to like ~85 degrees(~80 degrees on second attempt), this can't be good at all :"D It's a stock Acer predator g3120 with an [1024MB] GeForce GTX 550 Ti, which kind of needs to be upgraded, but it should perform better than this.
So anyone that knows what I can do about this, or should I just get a new card basically :x ?

Are you sure it's not your case instead of the GPU? You could try to test with the case open. If your case is for example 20 C hotter because fans are not running, pretty much exactly 20 C will get added to the GPU temperature.
|
Ill try that now, I'll post results in 1,5 hours~

Case opened, been stable on 79 degrees for some time now, while running sc2/obs, but I still think it's a bit on the high end.

79c is a completely normal temperature for a GPU at max load, the GPU doesn't really care if it's rendering sc2 at 200fps or crysis 3 at 40fps if it's at 100% load
|
How can you acutally tell if its Max Load? Like my GPU(GTX 660) only reaches like 50C with 35 % fanspeed while maxing sc2 and playing 1v1. is this normal or something bad? i have no clue
I do have the Twinfrozr 3 if it matters

Furmark can max it out. I wouldn't expect SC2 to put a severe load on your card.

Sc2 can easily run a card to 100% at the start of a game or in the menu's with uncapped FPS on max settings. If a 660 could handle the game at 600, 700fps maxed (like the game will run on low settings with overclocked haswell), then something 1/7'th as powerful could max sc2 at 100fps and nobody would buy a 660. Furmark is kinda silly, i mean 1300mhz boost on my card peaks at ~80% power limit in crysis 3 with 100% load, ~70% or so in unigen, but furmark instantly pulls 111% power limit (the cap) without even being at the boost clocks. With temperatures being scaled with power draw it's a horrible representation

I'm having a weird problem: There's this .avi video that has really low audio in MPC, SMPlayer and WMP, but when played in VLC the volume is much louder. But VLC doesn't have the "remember last played position" which is annoying because the video is quite long. Any idea what this means?

Sounds like those applications have been turned down in the sound mixer.

how does SLI gtx 660 compare to a higher card like the 760?
|
GTX 660 SLI would be better. Not a fair comparison of ~$400 vs $250...
|
What would SLI 660 compare to? I realize its not fair in terms of money but since I already have one of those cards..

is it possible for monitors to die? for the past couple of weeks when I turn my PC on it's dimmer than usual and flashes a lot before fixing itself i guess and goes back to perfect. but now today when I started it up the flashes are non-stop and the left side of my 25in monitor is darker than the already dim screen. It's happening as I type this.

Yes it is. The bulb can go out, the circuits can go bad, it can be a number of things. If your monitor is LCD it sounds like the bulb is getting ready to die. Usually it'll start to dim then one day it'll just pop (pretty much like a light bulb). You can buy another bulb (at least for tv's, not exactly sure for monitors). Make sure all your cords are plugged in tightly and that it's not your drivers though.

A 780 i'd think, 770/7970ghz doesn't quite cut it

Ok. Gonna do some math and see what i choose , can already smell the money rolling in :D

I hear clicking going on in the monitor, guess I'll say my monitor specs but that wont help really? or any guess on costs for a new bulb? HP 2509m, 25 inches but I'm not an expert to so I doubt that helped.
thx infernal dream anyway

Ehh so my brother is experiencing some issues with his computer. Files started disappearing from both his C:/ and his desk. When opening webbrowser it stops responding instantly and lots of errors coming up saying a ton of files are missing to run things. I went into his event viewer and he has like 60 diffrent errors there. Ideas? Google gives me the answer that someone hacked his computer and made the files invisible but then stuff would still work wouldnt it?
