If I wanted to put a news article pc tech-related, what forum would be the place for that? I feel like if I put a topic about a new graphics card hype or something in the general forum, it would get zero attention and possibly hate for it not being in the correct place.

Hmm appears my problems have not been fixed. My compter seems to unselect whatever I'm on. Whether it be SC or right now typing this. All I have to do is reclick on whatever I'm doing with the mouse and it works fine. However, the keyboard/scroll on the mouse will not do it...Any idea of what this might be?

edit** It appears it might be my wireless adaptor. I think the program installed with it keeps taking attention away from whatever I am doing. I reloaded the drivers and shut off the program and things seem to be working fine. Sorry for spamming it up.

You would put it in the general forum... because this forum is more for getting / giving help. Most people that frequent here I presume would be up to date.

The installation goes through without a hickup and the launcher starts fine after patching. THEN when i press play the game tries to start (full black screen) then freezes. HP advisor (ugh i hate that thing) shows: ERROR: an unspecified error occurred on the render thread.
Googling revealed that this error is probably due to a incompatible graphics setting. Ive made sure she had directx 11 and that her laptop is running on high performance and that her integrated graphics are running at high performance. I also updated the profile data setting some shading effect to false to no avail.
I'm hoping someone smarter than me to ponder this problem. I believe graphic drivers may be responsible but I am not confident in the procedure for viewing/updating/removing them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you'd link to the laptop it would be helpful.

How many extra cables should I have leftover when I go to plug everything in? I'm building a computer and I'm missing quite a few cables it seems.
SYS_FAN + SYS_FAN2 + SYS_FAN3 PWR_FAN NB_FAN
My case has a couple fans, but neither of them fit into any of these spaces. I got the CPU Fan in the proper location, which is the only one I've been able to find. Am I missing something or will these just remain empty?
My motherboard is an X58A if that matters at all.

If your case has molex fans than your motherboard fan headers will remain empty because the molex fans plugs into the power supply. Only the CPU fan header and front panel headers need to be connected, all other headers can be empty.

Usually those steps aren't needed. Updating drivers is step 1 and troubleshooting installed drivers can be a later step if it still doesn't work.
Should be lots of drivers but graphics would be the most important one to dl and is easy. Bios and firmware can be more difficult to change and is probably also a bad idea to change.

Hey, so my computer has 2 ports for headphones, on the front above the USB ports and at the back, directly in the mobo panel. I'm getting some pretty significant static when I connect my headphones to the front audio port, but get absolutely zero when I connect to the motherboard.
How would I go about fixing this? It'd be quite a hassle to connect it to the mobo on the back as the cord isn't long enough for it to be comfortable. Can I fix it in any way or do I need to just buy an extension audio cable?

First thing I would do is check to make sure everything is plugged in tightly. Could also be some issue with the jack.
Interestingly, I ran into a similar issue at my old job. We had some pretty cheap PCs, and for some of them the front audio ports would have the sound mixed with what sounded like static or interferrence. My only guess is that it was some type of EM interferrence from the hard drive (which was stupidly positioned RIGHT over the front audio ports). I never looked into it a lot (no one ever complained) so I don't know if that was the issue or not. (nor how this helps you, lol sorry)
I suppose there could also be a driver issue, since most sound cards see the front and back panels as separate playback devices. But this seems unlikely. :/

Reroute the audio cables in such a way that's distanced from whatever it is that's producing the static, shield it better, etc. It's a long shot. Just use the extension cable.
I would think that the CPU VRMs give off more significant EMI than the hard drives, but I'm not at all discounting the hard drive I/O though.

I get ~10fps on a 1v1 SC2 game with everything on low. Also, even WC3 gets down to 10fps sometimes, but I can play stuff like Deus Ex and BFBC2 no problem. As shown in the picture below, nothing is overheating (see max values, which happened during a SC2 game). + Show Spoiler +![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/AYjl4.png) Spec: Phenom x3 8450 @ 2,1GHz Radeon HD6850 4GB RAM Any idea on what could be the problem? I heard stuff about the CPU being the bottleneck. But wouldn't that cause it to overheat? I got a spare GeForce 9500GT here, would it be better if I use it instead of the 6850?
Thanks in advance.

The 9500GT is significantly worse than the Radeon HD6850.
Your first generation Phenom is absolute shit so yes upgrading your processor will yield significantly better performance. Bottlenecking does not equate to overheating.
Though the shit processor isn't necessarily your problem since I would think that even a shitty Phenom would handle low.

It's almost three years old, so no one would expect a big performance out of it. But I don't understand why you spent your whole post flaming my processor instead of helping out, even tho it should be able to handle the games I've tried.
I asked if dumbing down to the 9500GT would fix the possible bottleneck issue, but I still need to know if this is the actual problem.
And I already ordered a i5 2500 and a H61. I got no ETA on those pieces, so I really wanted to play some games with my comp in the meantime.
Thanks in advance.

Um no it's not a phenom II........
But yeah the processor is really really bad so that's probably partially the problem. 6850 is totally fine.
I really am not sure about everything else but your processor is likely to be partially the problem
Also it appears you're misunderstanding the term bottleneck, it's more of an abstract term, it's not like having the components in balance is going to make the performance any better.. it's more like a weakest link kind of a deal.

I bought the 6850 a while ago, and I noticed that my FPS in SC2 dropped dramatically. I could play 1v1s with the old GPU with a nice FPS, but after I got the 6850, it became unplayable. I formatted the computer and all, but no fix. So I just gave up on playing SC2 at all, until now, that my college break started, so I had to find a way to spend my free time. Based on that, I thought it could be a 'bottleneck' issue. :p
Any idea in why it got worse after the GPU improvement?
Thanks (:

Probably because your power supply isn't capable of powering such a card?

But could the HD6850 + x3 8450 push that much? O: How can I check the Wattage consumed?
|
No, such a configuration can't push that much power. I only assumed it was your power supply because you made no mention of it and had a 9500GT. Power shouldn't be an issue if you have a good 500w unit, you can check wattage using a wattmeter if you want
