I currently own a Toshiba Satellite L355-S7812. I;ve had it for about a year and a half and today I was watching streams and they wouldnt load correctly so I rebooted. Now the streams load fine but the DVD drive doesn't show up anymore.

So I then went to download the newest drivers and found they were corrupted and attempted to overwrite them but it said the correct driver were already installed. Then I uninstalled the drive and attempted to reinstall it but it failed.

Can someone who good with computers please help me?

i could be wrong if you're trying to install new drivers. there could be a chance that your computer didn't completely uninstall the older ones. i know nvidia drivers are like that.

download cc cleaner and i think you gotta restart your computer into safe mode.
run cc cleaner and clean out the old drivers.

restart your computer into normal mode and then install the new drivers you have.

(dont uninstall anything youre not supposed to in cc cleaner. only look for the ones you think is causing the problem. i didnt even know the dvd drive needed a driver to be honest)

Its a common problem with registry screw-ups. Did you by any chance run any registry cleaner that day?
Maybe you installed a new program?

What you can do is restore your registry if you have back-up, do a system restore or use a recovery disk.

If you are unable to do anything of the above, then try to remove the drivers again, plug-off your drive and start windows, turn off plug in and start again, it should register a new hardware device and offer to install it.

Run "regedit" using that search bar in the start menu. Navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11CE-
BFC1-08002BE10318}

On the right hand side, there should now be several values with the first one having the data "DVD/CD-ROM drives". Delete both the "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" values and reboot the PC. Unless it was a hardware problem in the first place, your DVD drive should now show up.
