OP Updated with a guide to configure your Save Camera hotkeys
I'm making this blog because the old thread is confusing people, since it started for the beta version and SC2tools is not working for the released version of SC2.
this is how to configure your hotkeys for the released SC2 version, step by step.
1- if you want the english hotkeys file, here it is: http://www.sendspace.com/file/4xauix + Show Spoiler [if link is broken us this one] +http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3862290/GameHotkeys.txtthis one was missing: Button/Hotkey/MorphToOverseer=V Button/Hotkey/Sentry=E Button/Hotkey/Sentry_NRS=N Button/Hotkey/Reactor=C Button/Hotkey/Reactor_NRS=C Button/Hotkey/Reactor_SC1=X Button/Hotkey/Contaminate=E Button/Hotkey/Contaminate_NRS=T
thanks to TacoSupreme. this version he changed the extrator key to E and attack to A.
2- now you need the MPQ editor, here is the link to download it: http://www.zezula.net/download/mpqediten32.zip
thanks to Tiler for providing this link.
3- Open your MPQ editor and then open this file: C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\ptBR.SC2Data
I have the ptBR.SC2Data because I'm from brazil. You will have this file at your language version.
4- in your MPQ editor, with the file opened, navigate to the LocalizedData folder and delete the GameHotkeys.txt
5- in the same folder, LocalizedData, right click in the right side where the TxT files are listed and click "Add files". select your configured GameHotkeys.txt and just click to OK when a new window pop.
6- now edit the MPQ file for the patch version, which is located here: C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Versions\Base15405\patch-ptBR.SC2Archive
I have the ptBR version, you will have your own language version.
7- in your MPQ editor, with the file opened, navigate to the Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\ptBR.SC2Data\LocalizedData folder and delete the GameHotkeys.txt
remember that where I have ptBR you will have your own language abreviation.
8- add the new GameHotkeys.txt file the same way you did in the step 5 and that's it!
Configuring your camera view hotkeys: (by Keynote)
The following directions should make your F2 through F4 your screen keys and F5 through F8 your hero keys for single and multiplayer if you use the Standard hotkey setup. The directions are similar to the OP's post but instead of deleting/adding GameHotkeys.txt to the file it edits the GameHotkeys.txt directly. Use at your own risk.
This is for the english US version. If you have a different version or use a different language, replace the "enUS" part with the corresponding one.
1. Backup the following two files: C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Mods\Core.SC2Mod\enUS.SC2data C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Versions\Base15405\patch-enUS.SC2Archive
2. Download and extract the MPQ editor from the OP's post.
3. Open the MPQ editor and open the file: C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Mods\Core.SC2Mod\enUS.SC2data 4. Go to Localized Data -> GameHotkeys.txt and double-click it. It should open a notepad file (or similar)
5. Ctrl+F "F2" without quotes and you should see the following: + Show Spoiler +UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect0=F2 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect0_NRS=F9 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect0_GRS=F9 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect1=F3 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect1_NRS=F10 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect1_GRS=F10 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect2=F4 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect2_NRS=F11 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect2_GRS=F11 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect3=F5 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect4=F6 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect5=F7 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect6=F8 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect7=
Change it to:
+ Show Spoiler +UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect0=F5 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect0_NRS=F9 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect0_GRS=F9 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect1=F6 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect1_NRS=F10 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect1_GRS=F10 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect2=F7 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect2_NRS=F11 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect2_GRS=F11 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect3=F8 UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect4= UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect5= UI/Hotkey/HeroSelect6=
6. Ctrl+F "Control+F5" without quotes and you should see the following:
+ Show Spoiler +UI/Hotkey/CameraSave0=Control+F5 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave1=Control+F6 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave2=Control+F7 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave3=Control+F8 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave4= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave5= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave6= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave7= UI/Hotkey/CameraTurnLeft=Insert UI/Hotkey/CameraTurnRight=Delete UI/Hotkey/CameraView0=F5 UI/Hotkey/CameraView1=F6 UI/Hotkey/CameraView2=F7 UI/Hotkey/CameraView3=F8 UI/Hotkey/CameraView4= UI/Hotkey/CameraView5= UI/Hotkey/CameraView6= UI/Hotkey/CameraView7=
Change it to:
+ Show Spoiler +UI/Hotkey/CameraSave0=Control+F2 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave1=Control+F3 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave2=Control+F4 UI/Hotkey/CameraSave3= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave4= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave5= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave6= UI/Hotkey/CameraSave7= UI/Hotkey/CameraTurnLeft=Insert UI/Hotkey/CameraTurnRight=Delete UI/Hotkey/CameraView0=F2 UI/Hotkey/CameraView1=F3 UI/Hotkey/CameraView2=F4 UI/Hotkey/CameraView3= UI/Hotkey/CameraView4= UI/Hotkey/CameraView5= UI/Hotkey/CameraView6= UI/Hotkey/CameraView7=
7. Close the .txt file, and when asked, press yes to save the changes.
8. Press Ctrl+F4 to close the current MPQ file and open the following file using the MPQ editor:
C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Versions\Base15405\patch-enUS.SC2Archive
9. Go to Mods -> Core.Sc2Mod -> enUS.SC2Data -> LocalizedData -> GameHotkeys.txt and double-click it.
10. Repeat steps 5-7 and you're done. The NRS and GRS versions might differ between the two files but for default hotkeys this should work.
I made this for a friend who hates only having one saved camera screen. I believe this only affects the Standard hotkey setup, so you might have to mess with the NRS or GRS versions in the GameHotkeys.txt if you use different hotkey setups. You can choose to have more or less screen keys if you want by making the corresponding changes (e.g. UI/Hotkey/CameraView3=F5 for a fourth screen save). Just make sure they don't overlap with the hero keys or F9-F12 keys
Big thanks to Keynote for his guide. edit this thread if you think it's needing? I'm not good with text editing and writing... title may be updated too, I don't know. lol

there is also a text file for those keys, but I haven't tested changing it yet.
instead of changing the file GameHotkeys.txt located at: Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\ptBR.SC2Data\LocalizedData
there is a GameHotkeys.txt file at: Mods\Core.SC2Mod\ptBR.SC2Data\LocalizedData
this is the path inside the MPQ editor.
but like I said, I didn't test changing it.

the other one: http://www.sendspace.com/file/g1ar0w

thanks, worked fine for terran.
but holy shit blizzard, english hotkeys should be default to every version of the game.
|
Does it work if i make my own version of the GameHotkeys.txt or i have to use the same file than in the OP ?
I use a mix between French and English broodwar hotkeys fyk.
|
I forgot to save the original hotkeys.txt and the one in the OP doesnt have the Reactors hotkey, can anyone type them here for me, please? I tried putting ReactorBarracks=C but didn't work.

this is also from the original brazilian txt
I noted that the overlord key to morph to overseer is missing in the US txt file in the OP, here it is: Button/Hotkey/MorphToOverseer=V
if anyone notice something missing, please post here.

I would also use the new hotkey text files and change them because theres a lot of removals and changes from the original Beta ones and certainly make backup copies before you start messing with them.
I am about halfway through changing mine, it takes ages without the tool. One thing I have noticed is that despite the campaign having a separate hotkeyfile, changes to the mod folder also affect the campaign. I havent gone too far into the campaign to know if this is going to be a problem i guess we change the campaign hotkey file for the campaign specific units.

Muito obrigado! Está funcionando perfeitamente =D
|
Very weird - I also have the brazilian portuguese version but when I try editing the GameHotkeys.txt file, it shows different hotkeys from in-game! I'm pretty sure I'm editing the right file...
|
Yeah I'm not sure if this is confirmed working, but I did this several times with the MX version and it didn't work. Why must Blizz. shit on Latin America and put our hotkeys so fuckin far? M, O and P are some of the most common hotkeys where as in the beta they were all tucked nice and warm by WASD.
This is a very serious disadvantage when compared to English versions of the game.
|
Tried changing the cameras(locational hotkeys) to the sc/bw style, couldn't get it to work. It doesn't even seem like changing the gamehotkey.txt did anything. Let me know if anybody know how to do this.
|
I need the original GameHotkeys.txt´s because i get an Error if i want to patch.
Can someone give me please? :-(

are you sure its the the normal hotkey.txt? had no probs patching with my edited keys (changed hotkeys and the other file where i changed the warpgate key) and my changes are still in.

will i lost my singleplayer Saves if i reinstall?

nice write up, big thanks.
I didn't know we could have 7 camera views saved. sounds to me that blizzard wants to add the option for us to configure everything in a future patch. I don't see another reason to have that many options hidden and disabled.

i only see the Hotkey buttons in the gamehotkeys.txt. where are the UI hotkeys such as towncamera to cycle between hatcheries? thanks!

Thank you very much keynote.
One question though, what will happen next time blizzard patches? Will the hotkeys get reset, or will the game be unable to patch, or will I simply get banned :-) ?

The UI hotkeys are in the two files I mentioned in my previous post. In particular, town camera defaults to backspace in Standard hotkey setup.

I don't have a clue what will happen the next time blizzard patches. My guess is the files under StarCraft II\Mods\Core.SC2Mod will remain untouched, but the folder StarCraft II\Versions\Base15405 will be replaced with the newest version. You might have to edit that file again after a patch. As far as bans goes, it seems that Blizzard will allow us to edit hotkeys sometime in the future with all the unused saved camera hotkeys. However, as I said before, use at your own risk =P.
|
I will add your post to the OP, since everyone should know about the save-camera configuration. if you want to change something just pm me.

This is awesome. Now I can bind every Protoss unit to 'e'.

Any idea how I can get mouse buttons to do certain things? I'd like to put the healthbar to the side of my mouse (mousebutton 4 or something)

upload a screenshot from your MPQ with the file you are editing opened in the MPQ editor so I can see if you are really editing the wright file in the wright place.

I've been trying to get this to work for camera controls. All I want to do is use WASD in place of the arrow keys for controlling the camera, but it doesn't seem to change anything after I edit the .txt file. I suppose I would like to bind attack move to mouse4 as well (or shift+A if mouse4 isn't possible for some reason). Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, but is there something else I need to edit with the MPQ editor other than C:\Program Files\StarCraft II\Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod\ptBR.SC2Data for these two things?
|
I'm not entirely sure if it's possible to do this, even through editing the GameHotkeys file but I'll ask anyway. Instead of grouping with the numbers, can I set 'shift+q' to my forge (just an example), leaving the normal grid hotkeys intact? As of now 'shift+q' is the same as just hitting 'q' I believe.
I like to stay on the left side of the keyboard and going past 4 is out of my comfort zone. If I could hotkey to shift/ctrl+letter it'd make things a lot easier.

Hi, I'm new here I found this site by google'n for a way to make custom hotkeys for Starcraft 2. Anyway, this thread seams like the way to go, but I have a few questions.
1) How dose this editing of the MPQ effect patching... would I need to redo this every time there is a patch?
2) I can not seam to see any values for map movement. I like, it seams, a unique-ish setup of "WASD" for moving the map about and then a grid key setup starting with the "RFV". So I will be trying to set that up, but I can not see the values for map movement that is currently mapped to down,left.right.up-arrow.
3) Also in this thread and the other thread there is all this talk of "saved camera views". What exactly are you talking about?

1- we are not sure, but if they make a new buildXXX folder, we will probably need to edit the new file it comes within it.
2- I haven't seen anything related to these keys. so, I don't know if you can change those. I haven't tried to search for it thou.
3- it's to save the screen. for instance, you could save the screen of your main base ramp, so, instead of draging your mouse to the ramp or clicking the mini map, you could just press the key you saved to it, like F2, F3, F4.

wow.. that is a must have... sure hope i can get this to work... thanks for the help mate.

how am i able to change the "Grid" hotkey settings? because i play toss and weirdly the "command button 0,2" (bottom left to set up a building with a probe) is "Y", the same as the button for "Warp In" ... '-.-
so as soon as i have warpgates, when i select a probe to build something, i hit "Y" and get the "Warp In" menu... so i have to mouse control the standard building selection for probes... maybe its screwed up since i use the enGB version on my german laptop... but that really shouldnt happen!!!
any idea on how to change that "Warp In" hotkey? and maybe also the "Camera View" settings, all applied for the "Grid" choice?
|
Just figured out how to alter the keys assigned to the grid.
1. Launch MPQEditor
2. open C:\program files\starcraft2\mods\core.sc2Mod\base.sc2.data
3. navigate to UI\Hotkeys
4. select "2_GridLeftSide.SC2Hotkeys" and open using notepad
5. Edit to whatever key you want (tilde assignments can be made with a value of "Grave") then save and exit
6. Repeat steps 2-5 with C:\program files\starcraft2\versions\base#####\patch.SC@Archive in step 2 and Mods\Core.SC2Data\UI\Hotkeys in step 3
