Well i tried all these suggestions last night and never got it to work over a 5 hour period. Went to bed and woke up this morning tried it again and its STILL not working.
I have lost so much respect for Blizzard now. When i tried to submit an error report i got a http 500 error on there site, and now i can't even login.
The irony in the whole situation being that if i downloaded an illegal copy i could have been playing it last night, not have to go online to play single player and been 35 quid better off.

To all frustrated friends who have changed settings and then been able to play: about how long after changing settings were you able to log in?
I've been changing shit and reloading, etc. Been an hour or so...still "association required". RAGE

Well my issue has now gone to the next level. I mailed them, no response so I endured 35 minutes of automated messages to get to an operator. I tried 3-4 times before that but didn't even get through.
After trying everything on his side, the guy helping me said 'ok, that's awesome' after the last failed attempt. 'I'm going to have to ask my superior'. I held me breath, and was put on hold once again, but this time it was genuine Blizzard music in the background. Holy shit, I thought, they are giving me the Diablo Tristram theme, shit just got serious. And it did, after a genuinely scary 3 minutes of daunting Diablo music, the guy returned. 'Yeah, this is out of my hands now, my superior will take control of the situation. There isn't anything more we can do right now. He'll take care of it.' When I asked him about the timespan 'One or two days'. I laughed in defeat, 'I waited 12 years, sure I can wait another two days'.
Apparently buying the Collectors edition, and adoring it for several hours at work, then opening it at home; it is very much like taking a shot of heroine. I'm slowly dying inside. I wanted the game badly when it came out, I woke up early to get to the store. I was happy for those moments. I can't remember how I felt, even though it was only two days ago.
I just want to play the game Blizzard! Why are you doing this to me! What happened to you! on the 27th, when the trouble first began I read through the entire third book of the dark templar series in one go to keep me relatively sane. I have finished Starcraft Vanilla and am about to start on Brood war. I'M RUNNING OUT OF TIME HERE!!!

i was told by blizzard support staff that you cannot play outside of your region. i bought the game on amazon and had it mailed to my friend in the states. he installed the dvd and used my password to check for me... of course he had no problems logging in. but when i try from outside the NA region it fails and says association required.
i am in china so there is NO way I can play the game at all until it gets "released in china"... needless to say I am returning my copy posthaste.

Are you sure you downloaded the correct installer? I emailed Blizzard asking if I could exchange my 2nd euro key for a US key and they told me it wasn't a problem. Seems to me that they would've told me if I wouldn't be able to play on the US server.

here is the email upon which my original comment was based:
Greetings,
I can understand your discontent, however much of this situation is out of our hands due to the requirements placed upon us. You're welcome to post on our forums should you wish to discuss the matter further.
then i got an update:
Greetings,
I went back and checked some information and I found that some of the information I was going on was incorrect. Your U.S. Battle.net account should accomodate any regional version of StarCraft II, except for the Chinese and Korea / Taiwan regions. Now, if you're attempting to play the North American version of StarCraft II from China you're going to be encountering a number of connection issues due to the protection and firewalls the country has in place. From what I can verify, there is nothing in place here that would prevent you from connecting, so any connection issues you're encountering should be directed to Technical Support. You'll find their contact information by clicking the link in my signature.
not very helpful as you can see. i played thousands of games during beta from china on the US server. there is no firewall problem. that is laughable and almost insulting. will update if i hear from tech support.

I don't really get that last message about regions but do you have the US version of SC2 installed? (as in, you download the enUS installer?)

Right, my issue was finally solved. The way they did it? They bought a new digital copy for me to use. Yeah, you read that right. Blizzard gave me a new game, with a new CD-key to use on the 'split' account. So something must have REALLY gone wrong. In any case, I'm happy and on the final mission.
Only irritating thing is that I don't have a CE now ... I did buy one, but the digital one doesn't have the avatars and the thor ... OMG IMZOSAD ... Not really ... Just really glad I can play the damned thing!

i've sent 3 emails since last week to techsupport at blizzard..not one response.
did you just call them up? email? still not able to login...

Right, even though I had a perfectly fine account before, suddenly the entire game has been deleted from by B.net account. I can't re-add it because it was a digital purchase as well. What the hell.
Can't post on tech forums because I don't have a character, can't reach them by phone because they are getting "too many calls" and I'm quite sure that it's gonna take them a few days to answer to my email.

all i can really say at this juncture is FUCK YOU BLIZZARD. I reinstalled my windows which allowed me to finally access the blizzard p2p torrent downloader. at 72% is says "download unauthorized".... they dont let me download from them, them refuse to let me sign in when i download from a third party... they dont answer my emails, their phones are jammed... FUCK YOU BLIZZARD. I want my money back.

well, i got the USinstaller from my friend across town. reinstalled, patched, all in 15 mins. playing online now.
