This is esoteric and nerdy as shit but I hate "TN has bad colour accuracy" posts. Colour accuracy depends on the presets and effort put into the calibration. IPS has reputation for good colour accuracy because the big players (NEC, Eizo) make a business selling expensive hardware to professional users who will absolutely not tolerate bad colour accuracy. They make an effort to make sure they come out of the factory looking like supermodels so to speak.
The rest of the IPS family, that aren't ungodly expensive, often come shipped with DeltaE averages that are nothing to write home about (generally above 3). They all need calibration, so they don't suck, if you really care about colour accuracy. Heck...if you have a calibrator, you're going to do calibrate it anyway because two of the same monitors will look different with all of the tinting, backlight, and manufacturing issues.
What's wrong with most TN monitors (and some IPS/PLS monitors like the Samsung S27A850) is that the gamma is generally extremely high as well as inconsistent as fuck so you end up with black crush and banding issues. This is why people don't bother using TN monitors for colour accurate work. That, possibly less than full sRGB/Adobe RGB/wide gamut support, and gamma shifting if you move up/down on your seat.
This sort of shitty information gets repeated ad nauseum until people don't know any better - its probably the result of some intelligent marketing/product positioning at the same time Samsung stole Sony's lunch with that joint LCD factory deal. When people automatically dismiss Sony's Crystal LED technology because they think its just another LED TV ("it has backlight bleeding unlike OLED"), I want to throttle the poster because they don't understand the Crystal LED technology, understand what the hell backlight bleeding actually is, or even know that an LED TV is just an LCD TV with LED backlighting.
To actually answer that post, Rannasha is right about everything else. I believe they don't make a cheap TN monitor above 28" because that's pretty much when consumers will seriously notice the piss poor viewing angles - you'll notice the gamma shifting for a 27" monitor no problem, especially if it isn't height adjustable. They also come in 1920x1080 resolutions and the pixel pitch sucks so image quality is going to take a hit.
Basically there isn't a good reason to buy a 27" TN monitor unless your eyes are not very good. The larger pixel pitch is generally a good thing for people with poor eyesight and older folks and should reduce some eyestrain issues. If your eyes are good, then you want a 24" monitor max if you don't want to spend a lot of money on a monitor (say $200 max). Something like a Samsung S24A350 works fine and you can find some calibration results on the internet to fix some of the issues it may have...yeah its not perfect but its better than nothing most of the time.

you can't expect us to guess that, and the gpu that will be suggested will entirely depend on that
Well I play a lot of games really, ranging from retro to new releases.. Main "needs" I guess for the near future are Dota2 (This is what I want to stream also.), Sc2, DoW2, Source games (CS:S,L4D 2,TF2 etc.), and a lot of various MMOs that I like to play from time to time. (Dekaron, Cabal, Crimecraft, APB etc.).
There aren't many big releases i'm interested in these days; Dota2, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, Tera and Diablo3 being the only ones I can think of really - but undoubtedly there will be something i've forgotten about/hasn't been released yet so I am certain that my current setup just won't be able to keep up for much longer - at least not without heavily compromising on the graphics settings..
And on the monitor, I think I will be looking at getting a nice quality 24" instead of a 27" after some thought and advice.

@SpyNinja
The Challenger U3 has front-panel USB3.0 connection without an adapter (which would be for mobo's without USB3 headers so that the front panel can be connected to the USB2 headers), and your P67 Pro3 doesn't have USB3.0 headers. So you should either get a case with USB2 on the front (or USB3 with adapters like the Antec One), or if you want USB3 on the front get a mobo that has headers, the cheapest that I know of being the ASUS P8Z68-V LE.

I forget do we know anyone thats good with England pricing so we can help Shirolol?
I PMed him a list of parts he could look for but I dunno who the good dealer in England is.
|
ebuyer is usually okay and has a decent selection, and that's what Shirolol mentioned first.
Also look at scan, aria, overclockers, dabs, amazon I guess. Usually when I check, I don't think there are particularly compelling reasons to cross-shop unless you want to save a little bit here and there.

whats is your budget? around 1600 CDN dollars
what is your resolution? I have no idea......whatever the standard is I guess :/
what are you using it for? Playing new/old games on ultra settings if my budget will allow it. GW2 SC2, Diablo 3, Tribes etc.
what is your upgrade cycle? ~3 years when do you plan on building it? I want to order the parts this friday (March 2nd 2012)
do you plan on overclocking? if I need to, but since I'm computer illiterate less maintenance = better.
do you need an operating system? sure do.
do you plan on adding a 2nd GPU for SLI or crossfire? probably not? this forum definetely knows better than I do. where are you buying your parts from? NCIX because they can build it for me (I'm from Canada)
I was going over some pre-builts and this is what I was thinking of getting; http://pc.ncix.com/ncixpc_new/ncixpc.cfm?uuid=E58A78C6-1651-4D8F-A541363CE207C386-3992525 is it balls?

It's been a good 4 years since I bought this PC and things are getting a bit slow to say the least.
What is your budget?
About £7-800 ($1100-1300ish) including monitor!
What is your resolution?
1920 x 1080 (I would prefer a 27" monitor but I have heard some people talk about the pixel sizing being a problem or something? Not too sure about this and would love some input!)
What are you using it for?
A lot of gaming - Would love to start streaming also.
What is your upgrade cycle?
Well my last 2 pcs have lasted a good few years so i'd hope this could last at least 3 or so.
When do you plan on building it?
Within the next few weeks.
Do you plan on overclocking?
No probably not, maybe a safe 5-10% or something at some point.
Do you need an Operating System?
Yes, windows 7 home premium preferred.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No
Where are you buying your parts from?
Online (Was planning on getting the parts from ebuyer), I live in England.
Things I can salvage from this PC are a Corsair 650W TX power supply, case(antec900), and 1tb harddrive I plan to reformat/wipe clean and put win7 on. I was also thinking of getting an SSD alongside my old HD for just my games but am unsure on what size etc so any help there would be great also.
Cheers!
Working on it. EDIT: Done.
Since you want to stream, you'll most likely want a 2500K. Overclocking is super easy, even if you only do like ~4.2GHz (and I'll assume you won't go higher than ~4.4-4.5, this mobo isn't a great overclocker, but should have no problems hitting a moderate overclock like 4.5GHz assuming the CPU itself doesn't hit a multiplier wall):
CPU 2500K: http://www.ebuyer.com/251596-intel-core-i5-2500k-3-3ghz-socket-1155-6mb-cache-retail-boxed-processor-bx80623i52500k

GPU: 560ti http://www.ebuyer.com/320764-msi-gtx-560ti-oc-1gb-gddr5-dual-dvi-mini-hdmi-pci-e-graphics-n560gtx-ti-m2d1gd5-oc

SSD Crucial M4 64GB: http://www.ebuyer.com/264770-crucial-64gb-m4-ssd-ct064m4ssd2
Win 7 of course: http://www.ebuyer.com/259863-microsoft-windows-7-home-premium-w-sp1-licence-and-media-1-gfc-02050
Total (invluding VAT) comes to: £570.20
Re-use your optical drive also.
For CPU cooling, I strongly recommend this Gelid Tranquillo from SCAN (I can't find heatsinks on ebuyer O_o): http://www.scan.co.uk/products/gelid-tranquillo-rev2-heatpipe-pwm-silent-fan-s775-1366-1156-1155-and-amd-754-939-940-am2-am2plus-am
That leaves you with ~200 for a decent monitor.

There's nothing wrong (except PSU, and the i5 has no hyperthreading ) with the actual build, but I think it's like twice as much as it's actually worth. Let Skyr/Medrea/Myrmidon draw up a cheapo build though.

Balls unnecessary and balls overpriced...
Do you need a new monitor as well since you have no clue about your monitor?
|
yes I was going to buy a new monitor as well, but NCIX didn't have a very good selection so I'll probably be getting that somewhere else. thanks for the help.

Well wait for the slow NCIX hamsters to put up the sale and than I'll make you a configuration. But NCIX has the BenQ XL2420T for $400 which is good. Dell has the U2412M for $300, not the lowest but it's a decent price, U2312HM isn't on sale right now but that's a good choice as well when it's on sale for sub $200.

Out of curiosity Skyr, what kind of job do you work in? You seem to have infinite time for these things XD. (If you care to answer)

Just finishing last few weeks of school.

Ebuyer has consistently been a much cheaper option for all UK residents, i saved roughly £150 from a £1000 build just by switching from amazon/overclockers to ebuyer.

Yeah i'd just like to echo this aswell, for my last few builds ebuyer has been the cheapest option every time - and never had any problems with delivery etc.
