If you don't think 128gb is big enough for all your software and games than get a larger SSD or get a 7200 RPM HDD. You can use your old monitor alongside the new monitor without an issue. 4gb of RAM in a configuration like this... really? Just get 2x4gb. The rest looks good I guess. What would be a recomended 7200RPM HDD? When I read the info on the graphics card it says that it uses 550w is that just a number they say to keep their back clear or would I be better off with buying a bit stronger PSU? The manufacturer recommendation has to cover the various possible configurations and quality of power supplies. A Thermaltake Toughpower XT is good and will be more than sufficient for an overclocked 2500k and overclocked 7970, such a configuration would draw less than 400w under load.

My old pc burned out and i need a new one, i have never built a computer before and i am not to tech-savvy, so if there is any further info you need, and please be specific and clear :D What is your budget? I am willing to spend about 2000 usd, but i have heard that i should be able to get every thing i need for about 1000 and would like not to overkill but still with out cutting any corners (too many). What is your resolution? I will be buying two new monitors, 16: 9. it will be 19" or 21". If there are any ideas for monitors out there i would like to hear them What are you using it for? I will be using it mainly for gaming. I want to be able to stream at 1080p, with web cam and mic. I want to be able to stream 4v4 with graphics on ultra (extreme? what ever), with some music and so on in the back ground. I am also a photographer and will be doing some 3d and programming (photoshop, maya, zbrush, c++, python). And I will be storing a lot of data of different sort. What is your upgrade cycle? I have a relatively slow upgrade cycle and would have this pc 2+ years. When do you plan on building it? I plan on ordering and building it in April Do you plan on overclocking? I will not be overclocking Do you need an Operating System? I need windows 7 home Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? I don't know if it would be worth it, but if you think it would be a good idea? i will be going with what ever has the best cost/ benefit ratio Where are you buying your parts from? I live in Denmark, and i haven't found where i will buy it yet Other There must be room in the cabinet for my old hard drive. A quick question: it tends to get dusty in my room, and i fear that dust might have had a part in killing my old pc, is this possible or paranoia? Thank you so much for you help!

Yes Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Not in the near future atleast Where are you buying your parts from? Going to buy them in Sweden, so komplett.se, inet.se or if someone else knows a good reliable company from there I have been lurking around a bit reading the tips for other people and made myself a possible build, www.inet.se/kundvagn/visa/1496017/maybe-this Is there anything that I have missed? Or have added extra that is just throwing money away? What is the difference is there between the different brands on the HD 7970 like PowerColor as I have on the list compared to say a XFX or MSI? After reading the responses and seeing the recomendations I have modified the list of what I plan to get to this + Show Spoiler + Antec Kühler H2O 620 Antec P280 Midtower - Black Corsair 4GB Intel/AMD PC3-10666, 1333MHz, 1x240 DIMM Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 - LGA1155 Intel® Core i5 2500K, 3.3GHz, 6MB Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 Sve (64-bit OEM ) Samsung 830 Series MZ-7PC128 128GB Desktop Gigabyte Radeon HD7970 OC 3GB DDR5 PCIe Thermaltake Toughpower XT 575W Bronze Western Digital Caviar Green WD20EARX 2TB 5400rpm 64MB 3.5" SATA-3 22-24inch BenQ XL2420T 24" WIDE TFT LED 120HZ Black And I have a few last questions before I go ahead and buy it (if the list looks good) Are there any special tools I might be needing to build the computer? or will a normally equipped toolbox with most common things in it be enough? I saw that this HDD was a 5400rpm instead of some that are 7200 does that make a noticable difference? Is it possible to use my old screen aswell as the new despite them beeing different in resolution ans size? And finally a thanks to all the people in this thread that takes some time to help a new like me with this ![]() You've got your build in an antec P280, which makes me think you care about noise (though it's a nice case to get anyway), but then you have an Antec 620 as your CPU cooling, which is definitely nowhere near low noise at higher fan speeds. You can get air cooling that is quieter and cools similarly or better for a lower price. Any Noctua or Thermalright coolers available to you from your preferred online vendors? Especially the Noctua U12P SE2 or Thermalright True Spirit 140 or HR-02 Macho, these would be good choices for low-ish price and low noise + capability to overclock pretty high.

Starcraft II, Diablo III, and WoW would be the ideal focus, although Guild Wars 2 is looking attractive. Not thinking of streaming for the time being. What is your upgrade cycle? Around 3 years would be perfect. When do you plan on building it? Hopefully I'll order the parts within the next week or so. Do you plan on overclocking? Nah. Do you need an Operating System? The only promotion I can get through school is Windows 7 Professional for $99, so if the Home version is more highly recommended, I'd say yes. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nah. Where are you buying your parts from? I'm in Canada, so probably Newegg or NCIX. Please note that I only recently upgraded my PSU for my current rig (about 7 months ago) so I'm guessing I wouldn't need to order one unless it's highly recommended. Currently using a CoolerMaster GX-650W, which I know is way overkill for wattage, but I got it for very cheap so I wasn't about to complain. I've been browsing the thread for awhile trying to come up with a suitable build for myself, but I figured I'd ask the pros just in case. I have that build in front fan in my cooler master case. but its pretty loud imo and i cant control the speed. so i need a 140mm case fan to be either silent at full speed or those pwm fans? I dont use fan controller but either 3 pin connector or those pwm fans would be better i think.?!

Generally, when in doubt, buy the same thing you already have if you don't want to do heavy research. Scythe makes good fans, apevia makes bad everything. Where did you want to buy from?

The Thermalright TY-140 (warning: 120mm mounts), along with the Bitfenix Spectre & Spectre Pro 140's (not in that review) are some of the best (140mm) fans you can get. If your mobo can't control your current fan via a 3pin header (doesn't have to be a PWM fan to be controlled by the mobo) I'd probably just get a Spectre Pro since it comes with a 7V adapter and rubber mounts (if you don't want to buy a fan controller as well).

Or both. 140mm fans are pretty bad in terms of noise if you're going for really quiet. Also, are you sure it's that fan that's making the most noise, as it could also be the heatsink, or the graphics card, or anything else in your case as well. We don't want you to spend $20 to replace a fan when it doesn't do anything to help.
