The "monitor" will look terrible, being designed for televison, and considering it's a 720p 19", you can get a 24" FHD TN panel for ~$120-140. If you don't have a TV already, then this is an expensive option for such a small screen.

Also if you are getting an i5-2500k you will also need an aftermarket cooler because the stock solution is terrible for overclocking, which is what you are in for money wise. I dont actually know what max budget we are working with here, so I dont know how much money you have on top of the money you are about to save not wasting it on RAM. Your entire configuration is bad because you haven't pricematched. You selected a Indilinx SSD which is terrible. If you want a cheap SSD than get a second generation Sandforce such as a Kingston HyperX or OCZ Agility 3. A GTX 560 Ti for nearly $300 is seriously overpriced. If you want to pay nearly $300, get a GTX 560 Ti 448 Twin Frozr III: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=65880&promoid=1301 All the good deals from Boxing Week are sold out so just get a Seasonic S12II 520: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=52173&promoid=1301 Get the ASUS P8Z68-M Pro for your motherboard: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=64104&promoid=1301 Get Corsair Vengeance 1600MHz: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=57078&promoid=1301 Note I didn't try very hard since you didn't try at all providing information.

We would prefer to get things assembled and shipped from NCIX.ca (we are canadian). The resolution of his screen is 1680 x 1050 and he'd like to be able to play modern PC games on modest settings. EDIT: We'd like to spend close to $600 on the price of the parts before taxes and shipping.

People have gotten used to the higher prices for harddisks and I don't see retailers passing up the opportunity for extra profit. Especially since the days of the largest discounts and special offers are over. dont think anyone got used to a 2-300% price increase. infact im waiting since months to buy a new hd cause i plain refuse to pay those insane prices. the day i can get a decent hard drive for a reasonable price again i will instabuy.

If you can get 4GB 1333 for ~$20 and 1600 for ~$25, you're essentially paying 25% for much less than 25% gains. ~$5 is trivial when talking about an ~$800-1000 build, but still.

Why 1066 RAM? 1333 RAM will have a mostly real impact on performance and is also really cheap. 650W PSU. Yeah that system is going to barely break 200W (at least similar priced Intel parts would).
