Any suggestions? I already bought a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD 60GB. I'm thinking of getting a Hard drive between 300 - 500 GB. Nothing smaller than 300 but if there's a good deal I'll get above 500 GB, although I doubt I'll ever go that high tbh. I don't know anything about seek/write times, but from what I hear I want at MINIMUM 7200 RPM and preferably higher than that (10,000?). Hopefully I won't spend much more than ~$100 before tax.

The Spinpoint and Seagate ones you could actually go for the 1TB version without going over budget.

But yeah, 4years for most consumer drives is about the time I retire a drive (working or not). It's not worth the risk after that.

Does it matter if it's 2.5 inch or 3.5 inch? I have no idea. I was looking at this one... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL092410&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL092410-_-EMC-092410-Latest-_-InternalHardDrives-_-22136533-L02A What does it mean by "bare case"? If there's not a big diff between 3.0 and 6.0 I'd just soon as get http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136073&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL092410&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL092410-_-EMC-092410-Latest-_-InternalHardDrives-_-22136073-L02B

bare case means you get the hard drive only. You'll need a SATA cable, which you should have from purchasing the motherboard, to connect it. Also a SATA?/Peripheral? power connector from your PSU. Yeah that 500gb blue is good especially after the discounts.

If you already have an SSD and an optical drive, those are already using a SATA cable each so you may need to get an extra for like $2. Concurred, the WD Caviar Blue 500GB for $40 is a great value. I would think that a drive with a 3 year warranty--or any drive--wouldn't have a mean time of failure of 4 years, but whatever. It's not expensive to get a new one like that.

No, all current sockets (AM3, 1156, 1366) are all dead by the end of 2011. Sandy Bridge is LGA1155 (no it is not compatible with LGA1156 as they have different socket notches) and Bulldozer will end up on AM3+ (which apparently is backwards compatible with older AMD processors).

He's come up with a Wish List of everything, and I was wondering if I could get some opinions on what he's chosen. Are each of the parts good choices, or are some unnecessarily lavish while others are lacking? I'm looking to stay at about the price range shown in the total cost, (which does include a monitor) but I'd be willing to spend more if a certain part is particularly worth it. Hoping to be able to run at max settings, although if it's a significant cost increase to do so, then I'd rather save the money. I'm really just looking to get the most value out of it that I can. Thanks for the help, any suggestions are appreciated. get a 1 gb spinpoint instead, way more capacity for only a little more cost also at your budget, you should get a 1 gb gtx 460 instead of a superclocked 768 mb, considering it's so easy to just overclock your card and reach the same clock speed anyways i don't know the performance of that cpu cooler but I've never heard of that company>? you don't have a power supply in that build
