Ah okay, but I indeed meant A6, A4s in laptops are imo useless because laptops have HD 3000s in like every processor and that's nearly as good and A4 processing power sucks. Some A6s are really nice in price-performance though.

I can see the price/performance, but more so for laptops than custom desktop systems where non-trivial parts can be updated and swapped over time, I consider the cost of the CPU (APU) relative to the entire system cost. For a laptop presumably as a primary machine where the intended use is heavy, I would definitely not err on the side of lower hardware.
An A6 or A8 isn't going to be comfortable playing and streaming a game now. Certainly that's not going to improve in general for future titles. Most people are pretty satisfied streaming on like a Phenom II X4, if they don't expect better than 480p or so. A sub-2.0 GHz Athlon II X4 is a different matter.

So apparently both Western Digital and Seagate are reducing warranties starting in the new year. Caviar Blues and Greens will change from 3 years to 2 years while Caviar Black and enterprise products remain at 5 years. Barracudas will change from 2 years to 1 year and enterprise products will change from 5 years to 3 years.

Why not order another 6670 from elsewhere? And what's your budget?
You can get a 6670 for $67 total after rebate from newegg: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-video-card-hd667xzhf3

Well I was going to shop around a bit but I just ended up doing that, yeah.

Question:
I have 2 x 4gb ripjaws memory in slots 1 and 3 on my p67a-c43.
They're blocking me from putting my cooler master 212 hsf in, can i put these sticks in slots 2 and 4 without issue?
i.e does a 2-stick set HAVE to be in 1 and 3 and if not will it still utilize dual channel in slots 2 and 4?
|
You can have your memory in either 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 for dual channel.

Sometimes it borks and deactivates your OS, then you need to put in a phone call at worst. This is not an option for a lot of people.

A Radeon HD6870 offers similar performance to that of a GTX 560 but is also less expensive, consumes less power, and can support more than two displays.
You only get an EVGA Superclocked variant if it is less expensive than the regular variant.
Any H61 or H67 motherboard is fine.

I've got a question about memory! I've been thinking about moving up from 4gb to 8gb of RAM-- is there any reason I shouldn't just buy another pair of the 2x2gb sticks to fill the other two slots, as opposed to basically tossing them out and buying two new 4gb sticks?
|
Not really. Lower resale value, possibly lower overclock, and potential headache dealing with four modules.
|
Resale and overclock I'm not concerned with-- but what kind of potential issues can come from using four sticks at once?
|
If one of your modules go bad, you're going to have to go through each one to figure out which one it is.
|
If it's nothing that'll affect the regular operation or performance of the computer then I don't mind too much. Thanks!
|
All right- thanks skyR I was only planning to run one monitor anyways so that isn't a big deal to me. It sounds like you are recommending the 6870 over the gtx 560?
If that is the case, which brand would you recommend? I was thinking of getting the Sapphire, but it seems like they have some issues? Or do they all run about the same?
Thanks again for any help
|
All manufacturers makes of cards perform the same at the same clock. Even cards that claim better performance have the same performance if you just take any other manufacturers cards to the same clock.
Thus, the only difference is cooling, warranty, and some very VERY minor other differences that I won't get into.
Generally speaking its always smart to get the cheapest one unless you know for a fact that a more expensive one has something you want or need. Sapphire is an ok manufacturer.
