Cause i dont see that 40 pin thing that connected my old motherboard to my dvd drive. eh issit true? haha im not sure if i lost a wire or am just too dumb to actually spot the dvd driver plug? How old is it? If you have a really old DVD drive you might have the oldschool IDE cable instead of a SATA cable... idk even know if newer motherboards have IDE (I presume they would, I think mine does). Regardless, how would you have lost the cable, if you're reusing it? If you can't find the pins... I think they're just white on the mobo with literally 40 pins... should say IDE right by it (at least on mine, it did). Have you checked your motherboard manual?

If you mean crossfire drivers well, AMD crossfire scaling is better but I guess they have their crossfire patches done later. Either way talking about the past is a bit silly imo, just like Intel isn't making Pentium 4s anymore.

Yea i think mine is the old school cable and my current mobo doesnt support that anymore, instead they used sata. bah looks like i got to spend more money on a up-to-date sata dvd driver.... Nah i was just getting paranoid coz i assumed that the mobo came with the IDE thing....

A quick google shows that they exist... just hopefully it's from the DVD drive side where the adapter would convert.... no time to check for you . Although they seem to be nearly as expensive as a DVD drive itself :S.

CPU: i3-2120 $138 GPU: Gigabyte 6870 $200~ (Australian prices, keep that in mind) Mobo: MSI H61M-P23 (B3) $50 Case: Antec 300 Mid ATX $59 RAM: G.Skill DDR3-1333 4GB Kit (2x2GB) $35 PSU: Antec Strictly 550W $69 Total: $551 Is there anything I should change? I may or may not add a HDD to this, if I do it won't be a big one. I don't really need an optical drive yet so I left that out. Also, this computer will be able to run most games on 1920x1080 right? How will Battlefield 3 (and SC2 I guess) do on that resolution?

I'd change the case though, BitFenix Shinobi is way better and only 6$ more. Antec 300 just is so meh. You don't also need 550W so see if there's a decent 380-500w PSU that's like sub-50$ and with a 80+ rating.

Thermalright is no where close to Noctua in postsale support. Noctua offers a 6 year warranty - what does Thermalright offer? Oh right... their heatsinks aren't widely available and this information which should be easily available to find is somewhere hidden on their website. Noctua offers lifetime support, you get a free mounting bracket that is universal for all their heatsinks that were basically released in the last five years. Thermalright requires you to pay for a mounting bracket that isn't even universal.

If it can run new games on high then I'm pretty content. Anyone know anything about monitors? I think I will be getting a ASUS VE276Q. My plan is to build a good computer some time in 2012 and move the monitor to that one.

Response rate doesn't actually matter anymore since most of all modern monitors are already fast enough. Input lag is much more important these days and U2312HM has extremely low input lag and is well regarded as a good overall consumer monitor. Okay so after like 5 hours of browsing the internets for a good monitor, I've landed on the BenQ XL2410T for $379. My final build, probably will start buying the parts soon. CPU: i3-2120 $138 GPU: Sapphire HD6870 1GB $189 Mobo: MSI H61M-P23 (B3) $50 Case: BitFenix Shinobi $65 RAM: G.Skill DDR3-1333 4GB Kit (2x2GB) $29 PSU: Silverstone Strider 500W $65 Monitor: BenQ XL2410T $379 Total: $915 The monitor will last me for a loooong time, that's the only reason I'm willing to shell out so much for it.
