Ones with external antennas that are not affixed to the back of the computer case are preferred, and most of those are just USB. If you want to use a PCI one, you need a motherboard with a free PCI slot. If you want to use a PCI Express one, you need a motherboard with a free PCI Express slot (the short 1x kind is okay). Keep in mind that midrange gaming graphics cards and higher will use the 16x PCI Express slot and block the slot below it. Occasionally a few will block the one two slots down too. With the Gigabyte, this means you have a PCI and PCI Express 1x free. With the MSI, this means you have two PCI Express 1x slots free. Sorry, I don't think I understand this. MSI= 2 PCI Express 1x slot free Gigabyte= 1 PCI free and 1 PCI express 1x free Wireless Card this is PCI express so either of these motherboards will fit? Anyways, thank you guys very much for taking so much time to help me with my 1st gaming build. Any reason you're not using USB? Usually are preferred and get better reception. O really? USB>>>PCI? Wireless so I should get this? The idea is to be able to move the antennas around to get better reception. Antennas stuck behind a case may have issues. With a USB adapter like that, you could use a USB A Male to A Female extension cord and prop the adapter up or tape it to a wall or something. With that model, the antennas are internal and inside the stick. Was wondering if I could get your input; I am transferring my old SATA drive and optical drive over so I won't need those, the main idea is an i5 2500k system with 2 x MSI 6850 Crossfired, here are the links below: Again my other main concern is how thing's will actually fit, if the motherboard will fit the case will the 2 graphics cards fit in crossfire on the motherboard etc. If you could give me some guidance that would be great! http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-368-IN http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-115-MS x 2 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-117-AN http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-037-ZA http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-299-CS http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-001-GD http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-191-MS Thanks again! I strongly recommend not getting Crossfire because of configuration issues, poor support in some games, higher power consumption / heat / noise, microstuttering making average fps deceptively high (compared to perceived smoothness), and so on. That's unless you need like Crossfire HD 6950s for some beastly monitor setup, like at least 2560x1440. All this HD 6xxx and GTX 5xx are going to be outdated in a couple of months anyway...it's a waste to spend so much extra in graphics hardware that's going to be outdated soon unless you need the extra performance now. Better to just save the money and upgrade sooner. I'd go no higher than the Asus DirectCU HD 6950 1GB at £186, unless you're playing at above 1920x1200: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-255-AS The TruePower New 650W is an excellent power supply but overkill for HD 6850s (not to mention a single HD 6950). If you don't need something modular (IMHO probably a waste on lower-wattage units anyway), take the Lepa W450 or OCZ ZS 550W if you want something a little better: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-005-LA http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-055-OC The Lepa is pretty much a Corsair CX V2 internally (not poor at all), unless I'm confusing their models again. You don't need tall heatspreaders on RAM that are just going to interfere with CPU coolers. This RAM kit is much cheaper and should work the same. Don't pay extra for like 1% more performance gain overall and Corsair branding. Everybody just buys the ICs from the same actual manufacturers anyway. http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-023-OK If no multiple graphics cards support needed--well, support better than 16x/4x which is not ideal--I would move down the motherboard to the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-364-GI (even budget boards can overclock just fine generally, so it's up to the CPU you get and how reasonable you want to be with the voltage and cooling: http://www.vortez.net/articles_pages/gigabyte_ga_z68ap_d3_review,5.html) Save the extra money for an upgrade at a later date or an SSD now.

I'm not entirely sure what to google for. Generally it's two 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI Express power: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812196870 Most graphics cards come with one of the above. Occasionally it's just a single 4-pin molex to 6-pin PCI Express power, though that's a little less ideal because whenever possible you want more wires and less possibility for something going wrong if a connection goes loose. It's just an electrical safety issue in the fringe case. This Sapphire HD 6870 is cheaper and comes with two of the single adapters: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102948 HD 6870 doesn't need a huge amount of power so I wouldn't worry about it. Check the pictures. You would use the 6-pin from the power supply and an adapter for the other plug into the HD 6870.

Reason I'm so picky/paranoid/worried about this is because when I chose the parts for my 6 year old desktop with a friend a long time ago, I decided to get an AGP mobo right when PCI-E was getting introduced but still not widespread yet. Bad choice since I was kinda screwed in not being able to upgrade anything at all after a few years once everything moved onto to PCI-E. I want to avoid, or at least minimize, any of that happening again.

All it does is decrease the load times. OS is important clearly to decrease your boot time. Starcraft 2 would be a must for you^^. Another good one is the internet browser you use most... basically just programs you open the most. The bigger your SSD, the more liberal you can be with how much stuff you throw on it. That drive is fine, but I'd shop around for a cheaper price. They're so crazy expensive right now.... a few months ago that drive would have been $55 or so.

Specs: OS: MS Windows XP Professional 32-bit SP3 (I do plan on getting Windows 7, however). CPU: AMD Athlon 64 LE-1620 Orleans 90nm Technology RAM: 2.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR2 @ 399MHz (5-5-5-18) (I can afford to buy more of this, which I think I need to do). Motherboard: ECS GeForce7050M-M (this is the original motherboard, it is at least 4 years old, if I recall correctly.) Graphics: G2016wa1 (1680x1050@60Hz) 512MB GeForce 9600 GT (EVGA) (This monitor and card I bought shortly after I got this computer, so they are fairly old as well.) HD: 488GB Seagate ST3500413AS (SATA) My main question is what MB should I get for this CPU? And does my graphics card need replacing? My budget is approx. $300-$500 (it's complicated). I would go the intel route, but I don't really have the funds to make it worthwhile in my opinion. Upgrade cycle: A long time, unless my income suddenly jumps substantially. I know enough to work my way around computers and get a general sense of things, but I figured that ignoring a place with so many people who know more than I do on the subject would be foolish. Let me know if I missed any information. Thanks!

But eh the mobo kind of depends on what you're going to do, if you won't overclock I'd just say get the cheapest compatible mobo with the features(SATA6, USB3) that you want. You're also going to need to buy new DDR3 RAM, it'll be like 20$ for 4gb.

I looked up some stuff it could be used for in the future, but no real use for it now. The price premium I pretty neglible for me (~$15) so I wanted your guys' thoughts. Specifically looking at w/o PCI-E 3.0 and with PCI-E 3.0. Reason I'm so picky/paranoid/worried about this is because when I chose the parts for my 6 year old desktop with a friend a long time ago, I decided to get an AGP mobo right when PCI-E was getting introduced but still widespread yet. Bad choice since I was kinda screwed in not being able to upgrade anything at all after a few years once everything moved onto to PCI-E. I want to avoid, or at least minimize, any of that happening again. PCI-E revisions are backwards and forward compatible with very few exceptions. I doubt a single GPU is going to exhaust the bandwidth provided by a PCI-E x16 slot anytime soon...
