When you think about it, half a frame is probably like 1% of performance, and if you pay 5 dollars extra in a 1000$ build for 1% of performance, you actually get twice the value, not to mention better overclocking headroom. All the parts seem good, for mobo you might want to consider something like AsRock P67 Pro3 as it's quite cheap. For GPU I probably would get something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125385just because it's so good for the money.
Memory has like nothing to do with multiplier overclocking. If you are talking about memory overclocking than have fun running it at 1.7v (or higher) for 1866MHz and/or cas7. $40 after mail in rebate is hardly a steal when 2x4gb 1333MHz cas9 1.5v kits has been seen as low as $25 after mail in rebate.
And I also believe he wants lifetime warranty or else he wouldn't have selected -AR instead of -KR.

of course 40$ for 1600mhz cas8 is a steal, what on earth are you on about?
|
Above average RAM is fairly irrelevant now. Although I will say that I highly expect it to not continue to be that way for too many years.
That being said, I can't believe we are still putting that guy's name on things.

Please explain how on earth you think $40 is a steal when 1.5v 1333MHz cas9 has been seen as low as $25 and is regularly available at $30-$35. And most of these will EASILY run at 1600MHz cas8 at 1.65v. Lol not to mention these don't have a $25 mail in rebate.

The only time in recent history where RAM has really been important is with APU/IGPs and even then only AMD's Llano really benefits significantly from it since its bandwidth starved. Is anyone here going to buy an APU or IGP for raw performance? Not just that you'd probably end up rolling with memristors, DDR4/5, or some magical new memory technology by then.
Its not $40, its still $65. Not all mail in rebates work perfectly, just ask all of those people who have had trouble with XFX GPU rebates.

Ok Just a follow up, I finished building my PC and everything is working nice =D...but for for some reason everything is being installed on my SSD drive and I don't know how to change it so that Hard drive is the main drive (where my program files are and personal documents.) I need da helps!

Can't you just use the "Save As" option all applications created today? Alternatively go into options and change your download location?
Also, you want to dump your frequently used files on the SSD. That's the whole point of getting an SSD in the first place.
|
Well I just want my drivers and my Windows 7 to be on my SSD because I thought that was the point of it. I just want it to be a little more convenient when downloading things.

Kinda? I mean I don't have a program files folder in my other hard drive and I'm just wondering if this is normal. This is the first time I've done this kinda stuff lol.

Just create a program folder on your other drive and install everything there. You can change My documents folders to the other drive as well if you like. Also if you have enough room on the ssd there is no point in not installing frequently used programs on it. If larger ssds weren't so expensive people would install everything on the ssds anyway. Installing the os on the ssd (as opposed to only programs) is just to maximize the benefits from the ssd.
Changing you default folders in your browsers, torrent programs, etc to the secondary drive is also convienient.

I have a couple of questions about crossfire.
1. Is it a hassle to setup and calibrate? 2. What percentage of games support it? What kind of games do, and don't have support. 3. If i start off with 1 card, can i add one later? 4. Is it worth it?
Also i have been banned from this forum in the past, but that was my friend on my account

So basically you IAGREENEXTNEXTNEXTNEXTNEXTFINISHED, and wonder why stuff gets installed to C:
Next time, don't do that.
Programs that are already installed can't easily be moved to different directories, but documents, download, music, videoes etc. folders can be moved. To do this, open your start menu, clik on the link that has your account name on it. A folder will come up with all sorts of links to desktop, download, documents, etc. Right click on such folder, properties, location, and change that to whatever you like.
|
If you just have Windows and drivers on your SSD, I think that's kind of a waste. Just change default downloads locations, documents locations, media locations, and so on, as suggested.
Programs can be on either, depending on how large they are and how often you use them. If you don't have things like your web browser, office software (if used frequently), etc. on the SSD, that's retarded.

Considering that, here's a tip for optimizing SSD usage:
You can CTR-X CTRL-V your entire program/game installation directory to SSD drive, and then create a symbolic link on the old directory. This is how it's done:
- Run cmd.exe as administrator - mklink /D "D:\games\StarCraft II" "C:\whatever\StarCraft II"
This way the games/whatever you currently play are on the faster drive, and when you get bored or need more space on the SSD, you simply delete the symbolic link and move the game folder back where rest of your games are.

Still about 400 euros more than I'd pay for a graphics card, and noisy as all hell.
edit: well to be fair, most everything that's a good deal to some people will not be to somebody else, but I still don't see most people wanting HD 6990s.

It's still over 100 euros lower than you'd expect for that rare card and you actually get the performance of crossfired 6970s without the hassle of crossfire.

New thread likely gonna come after LGA 2011 comes out since Bulldozer launch didn't change the market at all.

Why not just keep the current one? I am sure we won't be recommending 550 and 1000 dollar processors anytime soon anyway.
