So overall it's a decent choice for the price and shouldn't explode around 300w and should have bearable ripple? Hmm okay, then I could build a computer that plays SC2 on ultra apart from CPU settings for 360€ with shipping. =P
|
I dont know if its any good. According to plugloadsolutions its the same platform. Looking at the weak +12v rail and the efficiency they probably skimped on some/a lot of parts or its overlabeled
Overall. if you dont use it for more than 400W, I dont think it will blow up your computer. But for that money you can most likely get something better(atleast here in holland/germany).
[edit] It could allso be better than I'm portraiting it out to be :p.
For a bit more you have a coolermaster gx450W. Allso not stellar, but atleast you know what you're getting.

I got my parts for my new pc, and planning to build it tomorrow. Its my first time so i have some questions i hope someone would answer
1) Should i turn on the EPU/TPU switches? If i dont, is it possible to control them in the bios?
2) Im building an SLI setup. Would it be better to just plug in 1 of the cards, and then add the second once the computer is up and running? or does it even matter?
Thx!

I picked up EVGA 560Ti this morning. been testing it for 2 hrs. Medium setting runs at 70~80fps or so. (BF3) and tf2 high runs at 50~200
but why is my tf2 fps dipping down to as low as 50 soemtimes? fps in action is low compared to 9800gt I think.... weird? and 9800gt was garbage card compared to this.
my cpu is i3-2100 sandybridge. this never happend to me with 9800gt mostly stayed 70fps +

Does anyone know whether LoL is CPU or GPU intensive? I'm thinking about getting a laptop that can play LoL and SC2 at minimum settings at 1080p, while still being relatively portable.
Thanks
|
I'd always thought of LoL as just plain not-intensive. I didn't play max settings, but if you just want minimum settings, if you can run SC2 you can run LoL just fine.
Edit: no idea if Dominion changed things. Compare their recommended requirements I suppose.

LoL can be played on max settings with a low end gpu and cpu (understand, not an old 5 years old already low end at the time)

I forgot what it comes default as but you should just leave it as default until you are experiencing issues. You can control both in the BIOS as well.
It does not matter. The former method is more convenient if in chance one of the cards you got is DOA.

LoL is more CPU intensive than GPU though it's not a demanding game to begin with.

(not sure if this is required) did you completely remove drivers before changing the card? And then are the new drivers installed?
Did you connect both 6-pin power connectors to the GPU?
Have you checked its temps (unlikely a problem) under load?
What PSU do you have?

Okay so my roommates computer "broke down" and he wants me to build him a new one since he is computer illiterate. His old rig was kind of crappy anyway so we're not going to bother fixing the old one.
He wants to play all games on max @ 1080p for the next two years. He would like to play BF3 at max, but if it really takes two 580s in SLI he isn't going to waste the money. His upgrade cycle is approx. 2 years and his budget is $1k CAD. It doesn't have to be exact, that's just a general number. He has monitor, keyboard, etc, he just needs the rig.
I don't really follow too many prices, so I would appreciate it if someone has some good cheap links they could provide.
I'm thinking i5-2500k because OCing isn't a problem. We'll need a relatively good CPU cooler and mobo for OCing, I guess we'll aim for 4.5-4.7GHz. RAM is cheap, so we'll probably get 8GB 1333MHz (unless 1600MHz is about the same price). We won't bother with an SSD because he probably doesn't even know what it is and I'm not going to baby his computer and install everything in proper places for him. I suppose we'll go for a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint unless there's a better alternative. He'll need a case with good room/airflow since his current case is a piece of shit. A couple months ago his PSU died, and he got a new one, so we'll probably reuse that, assuming it's still functioning. It was a Rosewill something 500-520W I think. Will this be enough quality power for the rig if we get a high end GPU? On to the GPU, what would you recommend? We would have about $400-500 left in the budget for a card, right? GTX 580? Go ATi?
Thanks

Thanks 1080p eh?

Don't even need to play on low =) Unless you don't actually require the laptop itself to have 1080p and use a monitor?

Thanks Hi, for maxing every game in 1080p with a 1000$ budget, check out both of the 1000$ builds here: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=271861

Cool, I'll look through it, thanks

Lol bad timing to be purchasing components in Canada unfortunately as most component pricing have increased.
I'm guessing you can re-use the DVD drive as well so I didn't include that. Your budget doesn't really allow for a GTX 580 and there is little reason to get one ... it would be a much better option to do SLI or CrossfireX with a card in the $180-$250 range such as the Radeon HD6870, HD6950, or GTX 560 Ti. However you would need a new power supply to accomplish this though power supply prices haven't really much changed and a multi-GPU capable one would only cost about $70. I would recommend a GTX 560 Ti or a Radeon HD6950 1GB, both of which would accomplish reasonably high settings for the next two or three years.
Purchasing a Rosewill was a very poor decision. A Samsung Spinpoint F3 is also not available in Canada... Not to mention Newegg sucks...

That build seems fine, though I don't really understand how it costs so much.
How about you do pricematching? That build really should cost maybe 1150 without SSD and that crappy SSD really isn't worth 150.
