Not to mention Fractal uses sleeve bearing fans while Lian Li is probably using ball bearing fans and the Lian Li's rear 120mm fan is spinning at a crazy 1500RPM. Swapping out the rear 120mm fan for something slower is probably going to do a lot because OEM quality fans spinning that fast simply sound like shit no matter what. What fan brand/model would you recommend?

Gelids, Nexus Real Silents, Scythe, and Antec TrueQuiets are your best bets. Noctua is an absolute waste of cash, don't bother with them. ASRock P67 EXTREME4 is your best bet still I think. Is there a reason why you want Z68. It doesn't give you anything but QuickSync or SSD caching, both rather useless features for consumers and gamers.

Assuming the Lian Li fans aren't using molex like old Antec fans do, you can just hook the noisy fans to the controller and decrease their speed. I was thinking about this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130611 So if he DOES want to upgrade to an ivy bridge chip, i can do it for him. I also went with this power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817194058 700w just to be safe, gold certified, modular, crossfire ready, and nothing but great reviews.

PCIe 3.0 is not going to be an important factor in compatibility. Motherboard doesn't have PCIe 3.0? The CPU doesn't give a shit and will use whatever the next best thing is. PCIe 3.0 is dead useless for consumers anyway, we can't even really saturate PCIe 2.1 with our GPUs.

Wow, a 700w gold certified PSU has great reviews when it costs 200. This is very unexpected. That's costier than a Super Flower Golden Green Modular 800w... no just no. please tell me what's wrong with this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157271

Though you'd probably be better off looking for MIR or a discount deal. for examble the Seasonic X650 Though for 6970 in CF you might want to get 700-750W. Dont really have time to browse around for you right now though.

Oh, just so you know, you used the word "went" so I assumed you had already bought the products.
