Here's the list I have so far (from the swedish Komplett) I saved chassi for him to pick. I'd just like some general feedback on this. He's also looking to buy a new monitor, and we'll be buying from the same place. That rig should manage 1080p no problems, so I was thinking a 1920x1080 monitor. He had a budget of 11-12k swedish (1,1-1,2k euro), so there's some 300 euros left in the budget, depending on what chassi he picks. I'm not very good with monitors, so I was wondering if you had any ideas. It's primarily going to be used for gaming, with all that entails (low ms and such). Appreciate any thoughts <3

You shouldn't need to spend anywhere near the full price on a display. Just consider that the bigger you go at a resolution, the worse the pixel density. Best way to explain this, you know how the picture looks if you sit too close to a big screen TV? If you get too big of a display in any given resolution, you can get something similar to that, which, when gaming, can hurt quality of graphics. Generally not an issue though, I'm using a 32" TV on my desk, but it did take some getting used to. Just have him get one based on features, anything 5ms or better and 60hz will be fine unless he specifically needs something else.

It's nothing big and i really don't care as long as it works, but do you guys think this will cause the motherboard not to work correctly? Also, i have built the entire thing know and am going to plug it in later today, will it be obivous if the motherboard isn't working right? Odds are it won't work if it's damaged. You should IMMEDIATELY contact customer service, and be very assertive that it was damaged. Do NOT tell them you assembled it, tell them it was damaged when you took it out of the package and you immediately contacted them. And yes, you'd be able to tell if the motherboard wasn't working properly upon attempting to turn it on. And by odds are it won't work, I'm talking about the sort of thing where if you did try it and it did work properly, you should probably run out and buy a lottery ticket.

Should i try seeing if it works first? or just return it?

For one, every time you have to troubleshoot something, you run the risk of the crack getting bigger and causing permanent damage even if it did work now. For two, your motherboard is a giant, complicated printed circuit board. Odds are rather good that that hairline crack is breaking dozens, hundreds, or thousands of tiny circuits that are needed for it to function.

So i should just contact newegg customer service and tell em there was a crack in it when i opened it. Do you think they'll replace it?

Physical damage doesn't get covered well, so basically you're just going to have to try it, and try and convince them it was their fault and they don't want to lose a customer. If they won't, try the manufacturer.

Get the "BenQ 24" LED BL2400PT" from the list you provided. Excellent stand. Amazing image. My friend has the BL2400PU which apparently just has an additional USB hub. It's a VA panel. review of the BL2400PU:

1600MHz memory provides little benefits over 1333MHz. 750w is unnecessary unless you plan on doing SLI GTX 560 Ti in the future, even than it's still a little bit unnecessary.

edit: SLI as future upgrade path sucks. It's not worth paying more for the power supply, dealing with the extra heat and power consumption and noise, and driver/profile support sucks, particularly for new releases. Sometimes performance may not be better than a single card. Future video cards will have better performance using the same power/heat as what's currently available. If you don't need Z68 features, I'd just get this CPU+motherboard combo since it's cheaper. i5-2500k and MSI P67A-G45 - $325 http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.660241 Faster memory makes a very marginal difference. Dealing with tall heatspreaders and paying $15 more isn't worth it. G.Skill 2 x 4GB DDR3 RAM - $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231424 This power supply is a slight downgrade in quality compared to the HCG750 in addition to having much less wattage, but it's definitely enough for the build. XFX Core 450W - $55, $45 AMIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207012 Hyper 212 Plus is good, but it's a $25 cooler, not a $50 cooler. The below is pretty much the same but quieter. Xigmatek Gaia - $28 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835233082

What is your budget? Rough estimate of $500, can go over. What is your resolution? Don't have a monitor atm but that can be excluded in the cost. What are you using it for? Mostly gaming, I would like to run SC2 mid-high with stable and solid fps, a bit of photoshop and some online radio streaming and music playing. What is your upgrade cycle? This is pretty much a temporary buy for me that I would like to last a few years, however, if it is possible to be upgradable that would be a plus. When do you plan on building it? Probably early next month. Do you plan on overclocking? No overclocking for me. Do you need an Operating System? I believe so, my brother just got a new desktop so maybe his came with one that I could use (not really sure how that works) if not then yes, I will need an OS which can be excluded in the price. Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Not sure. Where are you buying your parts from? I have a local microcenter store, but will order online if necessary.

A configuration for $587 before mail in rebates capable of playing Starcraft II and other games on high at 1080p along with streaming: Unfortunately Microcenter doesn't seem to carry the Core i5 2400 for around $150 anymore? If your Microcenter does than you should get that instead of the core i5 2500k. If you're looking to lower the total, you can switch out the Radeon HD6850 for a Radeon HD5770 for $120 ($100 after mail in rebate): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121363 This card would be capable of handling medium-high at 1080p smoothly in the majority of games currently on the market. Intel Core i5 2500k @ $180 http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0354589 HIS Radeon HD6850 @ $160 ($150 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161348 Asrock H61M-VS @ $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241 Mushkin 2x2GB 1333MHz @ $38 ($23 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226092 Corsair CX430 V2 @ $45 ($25 after mail in rebate) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026 Coolermaster Elite 330 @ $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119115 Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB @ $45 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769 DVD Burner @ $19 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106289 The Windows operating system can only be active on one computer at any given time so you cannot use it on two computers.
