Get an i5 2400 and an H61/H67 mobo, depending on the features you need. And that is a metric asston more PSU than you need, 500W will be more than enough. You don't need an aftermarket heatsink, no.

Why did you guys recommend the 560GTX most of the time in this price range? Actually, they're fairly comparable in some, and each take others by a fair margin. Given that both are overkill for SC2, the cheaper is plenty unless they have some specific needs. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/293?vs=330 Also, the 560Ti OC's insanely well.

Why did you guys recommend the 560GTX most of the time in this price range? The GTX 560 Ti is recommended simply because it performs similar to the Radeon HD6950 1GB variant but is less expensive. Not to mention that EVGA's post-sale support is considered to be one of the very best in the industry and that there is a lack of 6950 1GB variants (ex. MSI Twin Frozr II, Gigabyte SOC).

The HD 6850 is a decent pick, but the GTX 560 is a little faster and probably a little better value. The power supply above is okay but nothing special. With 396W on +12V it's a lot more powerful than you need, but it's one of the cheapest decent options. It also has 6 molex connectors; you'll need to use 2 of them through an adapter that comes with the GTX 560 to fill the second PCIe power plug requirement.

Thanks for the fast reply. Here is what I changed after your suggestions MoBo CPU Power Supply Since i'm new at this, i'm not sure if that's a good MoBo. Will it fit in the case and will the ram work with it or will I have to use ddr3 1333? EDIT: I didn't notice your post Myrmidon. Ill check that out EDIT2: Can you recommend a MoBo with more PCIe slots? I plan on adding a video capture card.

I'm really terrible at keeping track of the safe lower end mobos, though, so I'll leave that one to Myrm/skyR/Wom.

What would happen in that case? Yes, you can use both the discrete graphics card ports and IGP ports. Virtu would switch between the IGP and discrete graphics card depending on the task at hand, so idling at desktop = IGP, gaming = discrete.

I was thinking of the 600w PSU in case I wanted to add another HD or video card somewhere down the line. I did switch to the mobo you suggested though. The last change I'm thinking of making is grabbing a GTX 560 Ti instead, so my build would look something like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/partlist/ar/kME Thanks for the feedback! As a first time builder, it helps.

A 600W PSU is only going to be useful if you use two GPUs - hard disks use an inconsequential amount of power. Crossfire/SLI is a bad upgrade strategy. Northern Islands, AMD's 28nm GPU with a whole new architecture, is coming out to consumers extremely soon - within the end of the year possibly. The current 11.7 Catalyst drivers already have the next generation GPU instruction sets within them. Tesla and Southern Islands have already been taped out and are going to be better than any last generation GPU in Crossfire/SLI. So why bother dealing with SLI/Crossfire if you're not going to buy two cards close to immediately?

or http://azerty.nl/0-1073-90497/ocz-modxstream-pro-voeding-.html ? (or some other psu?) Cos I saw you recommending the xfx one in this price range, in this thread. But I've had feedback from a lot of people and a guy that works in hardware store told me the ocz one is a much better buy. Do you disagree on that? Why?

VGA I really want a nvidia card, but if it's really suicide I wil go with an ati, I was thinking about the GTX 560 (not sure if there is a huge difference between this and the Ti version) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125383&cm_re=geforce_gtx_560-_-14-125-383-_-Product CPU intel, I don't intend to overclock, so I was thinking the i5-2500 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115073&cm_re=intel_i5_2500-_-19-115-073-_-Product Harddisk, I really want to have at least 1TB, PSU I was thinking about the XFX Core 450W, I think 450W should be enough, not sure though if you guys recommend another VGA... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207012&cm_re=xfx_core_edition-_-17-207-012-_-Product I do need a case, but no operating system.

The OCZ ModXStream Pro is not bad at all, but the XFX is better aside from having non-modular cables (if that's a plus to you). Corsair CX V2 is also acceptable and cheaper, though less reliable long-term than the XFX unit. @mous Both the GTX 560 and GTX 560 Ti are priced fairly relative to each other and to AMD products. That Gigabyte GTX 560 looks good. If you don't mind losing 200 MHz, the i5-2400 is $20 cheaper, about $30 cheaper after promo code if you order today. That power supply is plenty overkill for that configuration but a decent pick for the price.
