Looking at the GTX460, and the GTX560/Ti and the price range of the cards kinda confuses me slightly. I'm assuming the price differences is due to various after market cooling and overclocking added. But for example a GTX460 OC costs the same as a GTX560 so which one is "better"? Probably looking at this MSi GTX560Ti . Another question, my mobo is a slightly old Gigabyte P35-S3G but from what I can tell it should support any of the above cards (it has 1xPCI-E x16 slot)? I also assume a Eathwatts 500W PSU should supply the juice needed.

It is the first time I'm building a computer rather than buying a pre-made one, so would love any advice if the parts are worth the cost, if I should replace anything, if everything is compatible and similar issues. This is what I have planned so far: Motherboard: P67 Extreme4 B3 @139.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/P67-EXTREME4-B3 CPU: Core i5 2500K @189.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/BX80623I52500K Video Card: AMD Radeon HD 6870 @164.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/11179-09-20G RAM: 2x4GB Dual Kit DDR3-1600 Ripjaws @2x49.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Hard Drive: 1TB SpinPoint F3 @49.40€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/HD103SJ SSD: 40GB 320 Series @86.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/SSDSA2CT040G3K5 Power supply: 650TX 650W @79.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/CMPSU-650TXV2EU Case: HAF 922 Midtower @127.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/RC922M-KKN1-GP Optical Drive @22.00€ http://www.jimms.fi/tuote/SH-222AB/BEBE Total Cost: 953.40€ I will be buying the parts from www.jimms.fi. EDIT: price change on the motherboard.

http://www.jimms.fi/tuoteinfo/P67-PRO3-B3?pid=1309776152190 If you are only going to run a single GPU, you don't need a 650W power supply: http://www.jimms.fi/tuoteinfo/P1-450S-XXB9?pid=1309776325091 Since you're getting a P67 motherboard and a unlocked processor, you probably want a CPU cooler when you overclock: http://www.jimms.fi/tuoteinfo/RR-B10-212P-GP?pid=1309777076279

I bought a Nvidia GeForce 550Ti, which is supposedly a mid-tier GPU. My question is, how well would it be able to run SC2, [upcoming] Diablo 3, and the like? My other system specs are: Intel Core i7 2600 8 GB RAM 60 GB SSD (Used as a cache to speed up actual HDD) Sorry if this is the wrong place to post, I didn't want to open a new thread for this question

The GPU isn't terrible, but it's going to bottleneck your CPU pretty effectively. Resolution will matter, but Blizzard doesn't tend to go nuts on graphics, so you should be able to play at decent settings.

I'm not planning on overclocking and I don't upgrade regularly. Got this so far. Comments? Also, I have no idea which case to get. I don't care how it looks or how heavy it is etc, I just want a good case, so gimme some options <80 euro or so, preferably. Oh and, will any of those parts drop in price in the near future? I could wait if it were to be something significant. Great thread, thanks in advance.

I don't plan on overclocking. I have a monitor. 1680x1050. I was also hoping for a HD with quite a bit of space because i do have a lot of stuff i would like to bring over from this computer. -Will it play ultra setting sc2? If there is anything else i'm forgetting, please ask. Thanks!

Given the same clock speeds, they're exactly the same in performance, but the GTX 560 uses less power and generally can overclock significantly higher. Your motherboard is fine, though possibly (I didn't check) you might have to update the BIOS to support these PCIe 2.x graphics cards. Earthwatts 500W is also fine. Until you upgrade the CPU, that's still going to be a limiting factor. I think the best deal in that price range, your CPU aside, is probably a HD 6870 around £140 though. That Kingston HyperX is way overpriced. You probably don't need such an expensive motherboard, so you can go cheaper, unless you need all the PCI/PCIe slots, the SATA3 and USB3 support, 4 RAM slots, etc., and can't find something else with all the things you want. Cases...I think some of these look stupid, but you said you don't care: Cooler Master Elite 371 - € 36,30 Lian Li LanCool PC-K57 - € 56,88 Fractal Design Core 3000 - € 61,39 Cooler Master HAF 912 Plus - € 73,96 On July 05 2011 00:49 shtdisturbance wrote: + Show Spoiler + I just graduated high school and am finally ready to invest in a computer with the help of my grad money. Hold on. edit: do you have a .edu e-mail address and can therefore get Windows cheaper? Actually, wait until tonight and I'll round up a build, unless somebody else does it before then. In general I'd think you'd be able to get like a i5-2500, 8GB RAM, SSD, large storage HDD, HD 6870 / GTX 560 (Ti or not), etc. On July 05 2011 00:57 XenOmega wrote: Maybe some good news for those of budget. According to some review, AMD new Llano cpu integrated GPU a very capable graphic card. This could fit into some budget build! It's about what, like an Athlon II X4 paired with a HD 5550, for the top end model? Performance depends a lot on the memory speed, since those Radeon cores share the main system memory. Given the price of the A75 motherboards and lack of A55 motherboards yet, they're currently not good values for anybody.

also, is Hard drive something you need to replace? I've had mine for about 5 years or so. And I think my computer keeps freezing on me when I try to record too manythings at once. Like downloading steam game at 1.1mb and launching a game. Not sure why that happens

Not sure why that happens Yes your GPU is a bottleneck. Yes HDD's have to be replaced eventually. Also, at that age it could easily be a 5400RPM HDD, which is slow without having issues. Look up your HDD, see if it's SMART compatible, if so, DL your HDD manufacturers diagnostic tool for it, and run a SMART check on it. Your memory could also be limiting you when you're doing that much stuff at once, depending on how much you have.

Here's a configuration capable of Starcraft II on ultra for $732: There's still a lot remaining in your budget so you could get an overclockable configuration, add in an SSD for faster load times (not really important for Starcraft II since you'll be waiting for the other player to load anyways), get a stronger graphics card (doesn't help that much with Starcraft II but it'll help with other games), or just save the money.
