Ah, but would you expect the 590/6990 to encounter as frequent/annoying/whatever else problems that an explicitly two card CF/SLI system would encounter?
And thx about the RAM, I guess I will just get an SSD. Is there any gain really past 8gb? I've heard from various sources that 6-8 is pretty much the cap on useful RAM for normal gaming purposes.
Purely hypothetical - suppose I wanted to run SC2 on max @ 1920x1080, stream it at 720p via xsplit to god knows where, and simultaneously either camtasia recording the screen or perhaps converting a previously recorded cam file into avi or whatnot. What specs would you use to have smooth performance with such things? I can't imagine myself using a more system hogging / time sensitive job than this on any significant basis.
p.s. I love you computer build thread techies <3

Also, wtf the 590 and 6990 are out of stock everywhere.

I want to build a new computer to play sc2 on. My budget is around 700euro. Can you guys give me some feedback on these parts?

Uhm, yes, 590 and 6990 are going to have just as many issues as any multi-GPU configuration as far as drivers are concerned.
More RAM past 8GB is not likely to help you much, the best bet is just buy 8 and if you run into swap on a regular basis, buy more.
Another thing you could do to gain some performance increase is to have 2 separate HDDs, so you can record to one and play off of another, and for encoding purposes, read off one, write to another. If those uses apply to you, obviously. And if you aren't planning on getting a big SSD for all your programs, which would make that vaguely redundant.
@spacebar: Don't use a green drive for boot. 5400RPM is insanely slow. They're fine for storage, but you want booting and frequently used software on something faster, 7200RPM or an SSD.

By the way, I'm not good on PSU's, so take this with a grain of salt, but the one you have selected is probably more than you need, and I'm a little leery of Cooler Master for those.
|
But of course, I am getting 2tb of ssd
+ Show Spoiler +
Hmm... maybe just cry and settle for two 580 or 570 or something...
Unless I suck it up and buy from somewhere like Amazon....
|
If you are merely running a single graphics card, you would not need 650w.

How much W would you suggest? 450 or 550W? or ...?

2TB of SSD? I somehow don't believe you can afford that in a miserly $2000 budget.
Just out of curiosity, why are you wanting SLI?
|
450w would be more than sufficient.

But of course, I was kidding about the ssd
I dunno, just want maxed out performance lol. Although, seeing as how apparently the 2tb 6950 can be (usually) safely unlocked to a 6970.... and the 6950 is about $260.... maybe there is not so much of a point.
I mean, how insane of a load will I put on my computer anyways.

Is the CX430 or XFX Core 450 available? Or Antec Earthwatts? Those are generally the ones skyR and Myrm suggest, I believe.

Uhm, my SLI 460's barely ever get pushed to max use. I vsync pretty much everything I play to keep heat and noise down. A single 570 is nearly as powerful as that, with less heat, noise, and power draw.
Factor in convenience for the average user, and multi-GPU is kind of silly. Just bear in mind, the majority of "enthusiast" stuff, like faster memory or multi-GPU takes large amounts of tinkering and tweaking to actually get the proper gains out of, and those gains can me minimal, or even nonexistant in some cases.

I'd probably go with that. Last ThermalTake PSU I used took my motherboard and CPU with it when it died last year.
If you want to be sure the wattage is enough, go to extreme.outervision.com and use their PSU calculator with the parts you want to use, and it will give a suggested minimum wattage.
|
Pretty sure skyR said something about an i5-2500k drawing less than 100W at full load and the graphics card drawing ~130W. Not really 'well-versed' in wattage needed. Anywho, it would be enough, even with mild overclocking.

There isn't a situation that a Cayman cannot handle. (besides the rediculous... Crysis 2 6 screen eyefinity, 5000+ resolution)

Could you guys give me some feedback on the cooling? Do you think I should get a fan in it, since the cooling is integrated at the cpu
