can someone please help me out here?
I remember looking through here once and saw someone posted that microcenter was having an in store sale for the i5-2600k + Asus? motherboard for $300.
Does anyone know if that deal is still going on / is there a better deal out there. Any info would really help. I am trying to convince my friend to go for an i5 build instead of the phenom ii x965 black but he is on a budget of $700. If I could snag an i5 somewhere for a good price that would be awesome.

thanks alot man, I can't believe I missed that in my email.
I just remembered it being an actual in store bundle deal though. There wasn't a choice of mobos. This was like 15-20 days ago though.... It might have sold out.
Also, I hate to ask another question that I could probably figure out myself with some research.... but, what is your opinion on the GTX 460 vs the GTX 560 Ti? I saw a sick deal online a while ago but it is now expired. http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/52713 Is there another site offering the 560 for less than $180 somewhere?
Thanks for your help

There's three variants of the GTX 460. SE (the worse of the three), 768mb, and 1GB.
You can't really compare a GTX 460 and GTX 560 Ti since there's almost a $100 difference between them.
You're most likely not going to find another GTX 560 Ti going for under $180 until Black Friday.
Btw, there's a GTX 560 and a GTX 560 Ti. The latter is better and is priced higher. The former can be found for around $190.

yeah I have the MSI gtx 460 1gb with the cyclone cooler and its pretty awesome. Yeah I know about the Ti difference as well which makes me sick to my stomach that I didn't get the card from that link when I had the chance. I also knew about the price difference, I was just wondering your opinion whether or not it is worth the extra money to go for the 560. its looking to be about a $70-$75 difference. The 460 also went down a bit in price recently. You can get it for around $160 on newegg now.

wow.. thats awesome. Even though Newegg MIR have about a 15% of actually working haha. $150 isn't terrible though if I inevitably get stiffed with the rebate. I might just get that one for him. I can't believe I bought my GPU about 7 months ago and now I could get 2 of them for what I paid for it. *sigh*

@Leafer:
Nice build! The only thing I'd change on it is to switch your data hard drive. For $80, you can get a Samsung 2TB hard drive or a Western Digital Green 2TB hard drive. Or you can save some money and drop that to a Caviar Blue for $55 or something.
7200 RPM Caviar Black is not necessary for data hard drives. For data, storage space and reliability are your bigger concerns, along with noise. Plus, I heard the Caviar Blacks are kinda noisy, which may annoy your friend after awhile with no real benefit (you won't notice the speed difference when accessing data files)
That, and I hate Corsair XMS as they're the only RAM I've ever had that failed me...TWICE. And in the process corrupted Fing everything. >< So I'd go with this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231426&cm_re=g_skill_ripjaws_x_1333-_-20-231-426-_-Product
With code EMCKDKA22, it's $65, so it's both cheaper AND better. Yay. Plus, it's sexier looking. :D

Those are generally 1 day deals. That being said, SkyR's link should help your friend out.
$180 processor + $180 mobo (ASUS P8P67) - $40 is still only $320 before taxes. Like $345 after.
That's only like a $20 difference from the deal I posted earlier.
~~~ Also, if your friend is on a budget of $700, I'd definitely look at that Gigabyte H61 board which is basically $25 after rebate, pairing that with an i5-2400 for $150. That's $175 for a blazing fast processor + mobo.
The 430D is your best choice. It has the highest build quality of the three units and provides more power than the Basiq and only slightly less than the Thermaltake.
Hello can somebody help me spec a computer including case? My budget is around 600-700 (slightly flexible?). I'd like the case to be as small as possible because I'm sick of carrying huge cases when I move every year. I would have liked to go mini-ITX, but apparently those have no extra expansion slots other than for the graphics card, so I think I'm stuck with micro-ATX (I'd like to have the extra expansion slot for my AV-710 sound card, in case you're wondering). My last rig had an 8800GTS and I was perfectly happy with it. In other words I don't need some top of the line graphics card (I'm not the gamer I used to be...), but I do need something that can do dual monitors and run Company of Heroes or StarCraft 2. I don't need harddrives since I have plenty of those from my last rig (need to be able to fit 3 in case!), nor do I need keyboard/mice, but I have nothing else. I am probably going to run 64bit with lots of ram (maybe start with 4, expand to 8 later? I dunno, RAM seems relatively cheap) due to the nature of some of my work, so that is another requirement... I'd like a relatively quiet rig, but I know that's going to be hard given the small size of the case I'm requesting and some of the gaming hardware I'd like to put in. Maybe a nice balance? Is that even possible? I'd appreciate any help... and if you need any more info I'd be more than glad to provide it.
@FragKrag, thanks man. I'm not good at selecting PSU's, so I just looked for the one with the best reviews for the best price. I should work on understanding PSU's better, but maybe some other time.
|
My cooler doesn't even say its compatible with 1155 but I know it is because it says so on newegg and many of the reviews on there are using it with an i5 2500k. To leave the middle pad on or not...
