@Stoids
Get the Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB for $50: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136767
promo code: EMCKDKC74
Other than that, yes it's a green light.
@objection99
Have you tried clearing CMOS? This is done by removing the power cord from your computer and removing the lithium battery for a minute before re-inserting.

Yeah I tried that, no luck. It still just turns on, clicks and shuts off in a loop.
Edit: Nope no luck

My build is now ordered :D. Can't wait to play games above low setting.
Curious on my SSD. Should I just put my OS on there and have my data HD for applications? Or do I throw a few regularly used apps on the SSD?
|
Throw regularly used apps on the SSD. Preferably stuff where other people's load times don't matter. LoL, SC2, kind of bad choices, since you'd frequently end up waiting on them to load no matter how fast you do. Office, Adobe, all on-startup apps, good candidates if you use them.

Hello. I'm going away for college in a few months and wanted to purchase a nice computer beforehand. I have a moderate budget, and was thinking of getting a Prodigy.
All of the information on the computer can be found here: http://www.geekbox.com/prodigy/
My question to you, TL forumers, is whether this purchase is worth it. My knowledge of hardware is minimal, but it seems to me as though the price is fair. I just want to get some confirmation to make sure that I don't end up regretting my purchase. Thanks.

$1400 for a 2500k with stock HSF on H67 in a mini-ITX case, meaning you can't OC despite the unlocked multi, on the CPU, with a 560Ti? Yeah, that's retarded overpriced. Pretty sure there's a Z68 Mini-ITX board coming out, and there should be at least a couple of aftermarket coolers that will fit to allow at least a mild OC, or just use less CPU, like a 2400 or 2500 non-K, you could get similar performance for probably a grand or less building it.
Alternatively, if you don't mind the price point, you could have an SSD and a 570 in there.

Components are good but it's overpriced by a good $400 if not more.
|
@skyr @jingle Just looking at my build again, is 450w going to be enough? I've heard opinions otherwise, just want to make sure.
|
Yes. Core i3 2100 uses less than 50w and the 6950 uses less than 200w, both under full load.

Thanks Ensign and Jingle for responding. I threw this together and still need suggestions on a good monitor. What do you guys think of this though?
+ Show Spoiler + Total came out to $1,186.92 before mail in rebates ($50)
Thanks again =)

The 1600mhz RAM with heat spreaders isn't going to be a huge improvement over a cheaper 1333 kit without heat spreaders.
You should probably stick an HDD for storage in there as well.
Looks pretty solid to me aside from that. I think the PSU might come without the cable to the wall, not sure though. Might want to double check.
|
Ok. Have any monitor suggestions?
Also, this is a stupid question but what would be the best method of installing windows 7 without the disc? Find a torrent and burn into to a CD or something? (I am paying for windows but doing so online through the student discount and thought theres probably a better way than paying for a disc sent to me?)
|
If you're buying online, they should offer you a download link. If not, you can just find a torrent and burn the image to the a disc.
|
I guess I could install vista or xp on it since I have the cd's for those, then download w7 through the link online
