xenomega - iirc two beeps in POST is a memory issue, depending on your bios.
Put it this way, my pc was making two beeps last night, with a broken graphics card in it.
@ womwomwom - how can I tell if the mobo supports LGA1156/1155?
Looking on amazon it says it has LGA1155 socket, so I'm guesesing that's a yes.
If I salvage the dvd drive, zalman and current psu (OCZ StealthXStream 600W) it comes to just short of £820 off amazon. Obviously I'll do some digging and see if anywhere else is cheaper, but that doesn't sound too bad, and the beefy psu gives me scope to SLI in another 560, doesn't it?

Hey so i just registered here and was about to make a separate topic but i have to wait 3 days so i thought i would post here and try.Basically i have been wanting to play startcraft for a few months now but i only own a laptop which as you probably know wont ever run Starcraft. So i'm looking to build a computer but the problem is I've no idea how to guess I'll just answer these questions and we'll go from there.
Tl;dr I'm a noob looking to build a good comp to play SC2.Oh and I live in the UK..
What is your budget? As cheap as possible really, maybe £500-600?
what is your resolution?I don't have a monitor, hoping you could recommend me one lol.Like i said i am a noob.
What are you using it for? 99% gaming, maybe a little net browsing too.
When do you plan on building it? As soon as i know how. :
Do you plan on overclocking? Not really sure what this is so no.
Do you need an Operating System? Nope.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? Nope.Should I?
Where are you buying your parts from? http://www.ebuyer.co.uk is the only UK site i know of,so this.

What I mean is that you should check if your Zalman CPU heatsink has the right mounting hardware to fit into the holes on the motherboard. If it doesn't have the right mounting hardware, you can't reuse your CPU cooler because you can't mount it.
I wouldn't bother with dual GPU configurations, just buy a mid-range card because the 28nm GPUs will be out by the end of the year. If you want to bother with dual GPU, AMD's HD6000 series is strangely a better option because Crossfire scaling is generally better and you've got lower load power consumption.

That might mean trying to find my zalman box. Given I've moved since installing it might be difficult .
Oh well, last question is whether it's worth getting a new psu or just using my old one. Thanks a lot womwomwom. Total cost in the region of £840, and that's amazon instead of anything else, and certainly a better pc than I was expecting to make.
hooray for the interwebs.

Your old power supply should still be fine.

So I shouldn't buy a one thousand dollar GPU if I'm playing on 1280x720 ?

No you shouldn't. $300+ graphics cards are usually for those that have a lot of disposable income or play at 2560x1600 or eyefinity resolutions.

Rule of thumb is basically for 1920x1200 and lower go for GTX580, for 2560x1600 and multi monitor go for sli or cfX for new games. I have 2560x1600 and GTX480, its still ok but sometimes I feel like I need another 480.

You've been most helpful womwomwom. I'm also shocked at amazon.. it's actually cheaper than ebuyer for everything except the case. Live and learn I guess. Plus with the absurd amount of packaging that amazon throw at their stuff, it'll be safe ^^
Thanks a lot guys <3

The only things I can really say in regards to a monitor and a keyboard is if you want an IPS monitor, get a Dell. If you want a mechanical keyboard, get a a Leopold or Filco.
Monitors/keyboards/mouse/other peripherals are a personal thing that you should really look into for yourself. Something that someone else likes may not be to your liking.

You can probably just go with whatever cheap ~22" 1920x1080 screen you can find that has decent ratings. Cheaper TN panel LCD monitors around that price are not all the same, but they tend to have similar features and performance. They're almost commodity items these days. It'll cost like £110 or so.
If the monitor was part of the budget, I'd downgrade the CPU to this and the case to the below, saving over £80.
Core i3-2100 - £93.32 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/254976
Cooler Master Elite 330 - £27.67 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127584
Lite-On CD/DVD burner - £13.98 http://www.ebuyer.com/product/176026

IPS panels are better quality than cheap tn-panels which most sub 200€ screens cost. IPS has greater viewing angle and generally better colors. When you move your head or change your position on a chair, your picture doesnt fade on edges.
|
TN monitors are basically all the same these days. You're not getting it for colour, adjustments, or anything special so it doesn't really matter which you pick. I'd probably go for a BenQ which is less expensive and has DVI: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/248927

Thanks for all the help so far guys.'SkyR i added that monitor just going to buy a cheap keyboard and if i dont like it ill get a better one in the future. Also guys how complicated is it to put all the parts together working etc.
another noob question; Do i need to buy a wifi adapter ?
|
If you want wifi, yes you'll need a wifi adapter.
Most of the parts only fit one way and are really quick to install. In total, I'd say it shouldn't take more than 30mins - an hour for putting everything together for a first time builder.
|
For a first timer, I would suggest reading motherboards manual as it basically has instructions on how to build your system. You can also watch some how to videos on youtube.
