That's not for wifi, that's for ethernet which is already provided by the motherboard.
If you just want internet hooked up with ethernet, there is no need to buy anything extra. If you want wifi, you'll need a wifi adapter such as http://www.ebuyer.com/product/257246

Ok thanks for everything will update next week or so when it arrives. One last thing,Should i buy Windows 7?
|
If you're still using XP or Vista, I'd recommend Windows 7 but it's perfectly fine if you don't switch either.
|
ahhh thanks all for your help/input ( i posted quite a few pages back haha)
But in the end, I got some extra cash and have decided on these parts:
i7-2600k
Gigabyte GTX 6970
Gigabyte GA-P67-D3-B3 motherboard
Thermaltake TR2 700W
NZXT Phantom case (white)
WD Caviar Green 2TB
2x4gb Corsair "Vengeance" RAM
I've bought all these already from the local shop, they said it should run okay, but just gotta check with TL! Is there any problem that can be immediately seen with these parts? and will it be able to support an extra SSD or another 2TB hard drive?
Oh the reason i'm asking is because, I have yet to open these, and can still exchange them and such. Just got the RAM to pick up in 2 days so I can exchange stuff (bigger power supply etc).
ty ty TL much love =]

Do you intend on doing CrossfireX? If not, the 700w power supply is overkill for a single graphics card configuration. There may also be better choices than the TR2 if you do intend on doing a multi-GPU setup.
Your motherboard has six SATA ports so yes, you can add up to six SATA devices (ex: DVD Drive, SSD, 4 HDDs).
You'll want to pick up an aftermarket heatsink for overclocking.
You probably want to exchange the HDD for a 7200rpm HDD (Caviar Blue / Black). Having a Caviar Green for a boot drive isn't exactly the greatest idea.
It'll help if you could link us the retailer that you are buying from. Your configuration could be better optimized but everything does work together.

OH sure I completely forgot.
I'm buying from www.pcws.com.au
However, their shop is next door to another shop and both are in direct competition with each other. http://www.msy.com.au
They both price match so long as the other has stock.
And yes, I was quite afraid of the HDD being a bad boot drive, and was going to pick up a SSD too. Should I get 64gb? or 120?
|
err did you buy Corsair Vengeance memory for $169? =\ http://www.pcws.com.au/products.php?916&sid=c5e4242548e6c73cd8dc87e178c89b65
If you did, return it and get the GSkill Ripjaws-X 2x4GB for $95 at MSY. There is literally no performance difference between different frequencies and timings of memory as seen here: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/memory/display/sandy-bridge-ddr3_7.html#sect0
If you bought the TR2 for $139 than I'd return that and get the Antec High Current Gamer 520w or 620w for $85 or $109 at MSY. Go with the latter only if you plan on doing CrossfireX in the future.
64gb or 120gb is up to you entirely. If you only plan on having SC2, Windows 7, maybe one other game, and the rest of the everyday applications (MSN, Browser, iTunes, etc) on the SSD than a 64gb would do fine.
Can't find the P67 D3 motherboard on either website so I'm not sure how much you paid for this.
|
For the TR2, I got them for $120 is that a better price for them?
THe motherboard was around $160~ I thought that was a fair price, considering Australian stock are always overpriced lol.
And I havent bought the ram yet, I was going to get the Corsair Vengeance for around $120 at pcws. Is that a better price for them?
Regarding SSD, that is EXACTLY what I was going to put on the drive haha.
Ty so much for helping out a nub here ><"
|
$120 is indeed more reasonable for the TR2.
$120 is also more reasonable for the memory but it's still not worth the premium over the GSkill RipjawsX at $95.
$160 sounds overpriced for a Gigabyte P67 D3. You can get the Asrock P67 Pro3 for $140 at MSY or a Gigabyte P67 UD3 for $155.
|
ahhh kk thanks so much, I'll go pick up the memory on Sat then. Lucky I didn't pick them up today too.
Regarding SSD, what should I be looking out for? Reputable brands? or any of the specs important?
|
Specs you're basically looking at are the read / write speeds, the IOPS, and whether its 34nm or 25nm. Regardless, they're miles better than a HDD so I don't think it really matters for the average consumer.
Generally speaking, Kingston is the slowest, Intel is somewhere in the middle but has the highest reliability, and OCZ is the fastest.
25nm SSDs are a little slower / less reliable and formatted will give you less space (ex 34nm 60gb will give you roughly ~56gb while a 25nm 60gb will give you ~52gb). If you're purchasing OCZ, it is 99% guaranteed you're getting 25nm. Corsair, Mushkin, and GSkill are all still using 34nm I think.

So I just got my computer from NCIX today and had them assemble it but I am having issues connecting to my wireless network. There is a TP-Link WN815N inside the computer, but under Computer Manage -> Network Adapters, there is only Atheros AR922X Wireless Network Adapter and Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The back of the box says there should be an install CD, but NCIX does not seem to have provided it nor the antennas -_=.
Hoping there is an obvious solution :3
|
Atheros AR922X is the driver for the TP-Link WN851N. If they didn't include antennas than you should call / email them.

if theres no antenna's sticking out of the back of your computer (of anything of the like). They probably forgot to install or include it all together. Check your invoice and see if it's on it. If it's not call them and ask WHATS UP! Dont fuck around with it yourself, you might void the warranty!

Don't think I should make a new thread, so I'll post this here.
I'm currently trying to play SC2 on my home comp, which has a Phenom II x4 840, ATI 5750 1GB, and 4GB RAM. However, I get major FPS drops when playing 1v1 games. The drops are random as well, like even near the beginning of the game when barely anything is on screen. I'm playing at 1440x900 res and I tried putting all the settings to low, except textures and shaders to medium and it still lags (around < 20 fps).
That said, I noticed in a hardware monitoring software that came with the mobo that cpu clocks drop. Is this normal? I'll monitor the cpu and it'll show the multiplier dropping down to 4 (from 16) which shows the speed dropping from 3200 MHz to 800 MHz.
