What's the difference between these two video cards? Are there any advantages to one over the other? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125363 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127565

RAM: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/247673 £40 Win7: £70 anywhere PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/245675 £30 HDD: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167819 £30 Case: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127584 £30 which leaves £200 for CPU/mobo/GPU which I really don't have a clue about. Not fussed about running on ultra, probably medium or high if possible. What'd be the best value, I was looking at something like a lower end Phenom 2 or i3 and then whatever GPU I can afford with what's left (4650?). That said, I'd prefer not to build if someone knows of a decent UK-based supplier that can put something like this together to order (would just buy off the shelf if I could find something that didn't either cut huge corners on ram/gpu or overkill on everything else that I don't need). Thanks in advance and sorry if it's a bit of an open-ended question edit - wrong ram listed, correct now

it looks like I'll need to get a new computer and as I'm a total noob regarding anything building-computers related I thought I'd ask here What is your budget? about 500 Euros What is your resolution? I'm completly fine with 1280x1024 What are you using it for? mainly gaming. Should be able to run sc2 smoothly. What is your upgrade cycle? around 2 years When do you plan on building it? As soon as possible Do you plan on overclocking? No Do you need an Operating System? Yes. It'll cost 79,90 Euro Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No Where are you buying your parts from? I'd prefer http://www.hardwareversand.de Thanks in advance

Budget's around £400, would likely be playing on 1680x1050 (have an existing 22" that I'll be using) and don't plan on upgrading beyond this for a while (existing PC is six years old, go figure) or overclocking. Right now I'm looking at something like: RAM: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/247673 £40 Win7: £70 anywhere PSU: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/245675 £30 HDD: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/167819 £30 Case: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/127584 £30 which leaves £200 for CPU/mobo/GPU which I really don't have a clue about. ASUS and MSI both use UEFI (graphical BIOS and ability to use mouse) while Gigabyte still uses the old BIOS. The P8P67 Standard and UD3P does not offer SLI while the rest do. All the boards except the GD65 has 12 phase power. Gigabyte has dual BIOS on all their P67-UD boards and more USB ports (ten as opposed to six/eight I think). However, only six SATA ports as opposed to eight offered by ASUS and MSI. All the listed motherboards have at least two SATA 3 ports so the Vertex 3 will be running at its full speed on any of these boards. Both of the sound cards are identical except for the interface so get one that will be better suited for your selected motherboard. There's going to be more PCI-E slots on motherboards in the future for sure but the PCI slot isn't going away anytime soon. The MSI GTX 580 is the best of the options listed there imo. It has a custom PCB, clocked the fastest, and has a very good heatsink. Here's a unboxing of it: + Show Spoiler +

AMD Phenom II X2 555 ASRock AMD 770 GSKILL 4GB NZXT GAMMA case GIGABYTE Radeon HD 5670 Antec EarthWatts 380w Caviar 360GB HDD Basically I'm trying to get the most bang for my buck. I don't have a high budget, but I'm not trying to find the cheapest parts and really knock off as much money as possible. I would say around $300-$400. I'd just like something that will run SC2/D3 very well. My upgrade cycle is probably about 2-2.5 years. The resolution I want is 1650x1080, as I already have a monitor. I'm not going to be overclocking, and obviously I'd prefer to buy my parts from newegg unless a better deal is clearly shown. I've already got a copy of Windows 7 ready to go so that's not an issue right now. Also, I'd like to stick with AMD. Pretty much I'm just not sure on two things. The power supply and the GPU. I know Antec is quality, but will 380W be enough for what I listed? And GPU wise I'm not sure if that card is, like I said, giving me the most bang for my buck. I'd like to keep the GPU cost around or preferably below $100 dollars if possible. But I don't mind sacrificing other parts to get a better GPU, as this is a semi-gaming machine I understand that is important.

A 2x2gb 1333MHz RAM kit can be had for $40: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148262 There is no point in paying for a premium in RAM if you are on such a tight budget. The performance between 1333MHz and 1600MHz is very minimal, see here: http://techreport.com/articles.x/20377 The 4850 a better performing graphics card than the 5670 for under $100: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150482 You may also want to try to unlock your Phenom II X2 to a X4. Here's a guide for it if you're interested: http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/535501-official-amd-k10-5-core-cache.html The 380w Earthwatts has 28a on the 12v rail so yes it is more than capable of handling this configuration despite what other ignorant posters say on this forum.

I think the stock heatsink you're getting may not be sufficient at full load if all cores unlock, especially if you have to increase voltage to make them stable.

http://www.anandtech.com/show/3902/antec-earthwatts-ea-380d-green-380w/9 good to go. I would get a more powerful supply for myself but thats just me being me. that one will work well. And until recently i used a 512 mb 4850 and it worked pretty well as long as you weren't trying to go balls out with the graphics. And i play at 1920 x 1080, with a lower resolution you will be very happy.
