Can anyone provide me with a build? I've never built my own computer, but I am extremely interested in buying the parts and assembling the computer myself. My budget is $750 dollars or less (USD). I'm looking to be able to run SC2 smoothly on ultra and stream. I won't be running any high end programs or video encoding. There's a build I was looking at, but I can't find any similar deals this dude seemed to find. Here's a link to the build- http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=211046 . The build is under a post on the first page by skyR. I use newegg.com and ncixus.com mostly.

@ Skyr
I was looking at the posts and the build that you recommended for mixmyass seems to be around my budget.
I won't be paying for someone to assemble it for me, but I will need to buy a keyboard so the same set-up is exactly my budget.

What I'm sort of worried about is that the build will not meet my expectations so I'm curious on what your input would be.

I want to be able to play SCII on ultra or at least on high, and I play for about 8 hours a day, so I need a computer that can handle 8 hours a day of scii on high/ultra for about 2 years.
I'm also wondering how loud the computer will be? I know that the video card you recommended there is massive and has a big fan. I also have speakers that drain about 64w of power and I wouldn't mind spending extra money on a safer power supply.

If that particular computer won't meet my high/ultra expectations for a long period of time, what will I need to change on it? Just the processor? or the video card as well?
I want to be able to keep that monitor as it seems like a really good deal and I would want to try to stay on budget.

Nearly the same thing, total comes to $749 before mail in rebates. If you need to lower the cost some more and don't care about USB 3 / SATA 3, you can step down to a H61 motherboard and that will shave ~$25 off the total. You could also step down to a Radeon 5770 if you want to further save money.

@getone321:

It shouldn't be that loud unless some fan develops a problem or something like that. One thing to keep in mind is that the cheaper cases including that Silverstone Precision tend to have flimsier construction and thinner panels, which can lead to greater noise. But I wouldn't expect anything too noisy there since none of the parts inside should be problematic.

Anyway, that build should play at ultra if you don't mind a few framerate drops here and there. High should be easy for the GTS 450.

Power supply deal is over, so get this XFX Core 450W instead (it should be more reliable than the CX430 anyway, and both have overkill wattage for your purposes):
http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59614

Speakers don't draw power from the computer's power supply, so that's irrelevant.

Note that some of these deals are over and that their new sale will start tomorrow (13th). I can come up with a new build for you tomorrow if you'd like.

Keep in mind that you can always use MSI Afterburner to manually adjust your fan speeds to get a comfortable noise / cooling performance balance for your graphics card.

The stock heatsink that Intel gives you can be quite loud so if you find this to be a problem, you can pay for an aftermarket heatsink such as the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ for ~$25.

Sweet, so I should go ahead and purchase the same computer he did but just change the power supply?
I didn't know about the speakers so I guess I won't even need a bigger power supply.

One thing that sort of concerns me is that I play for a really long time. Matter of fact, I am getting the line of death from the bottom of screen due to my videocard being overheated(on my laptop), and that is something I definitely want to avoid.

With that in mind, if you feel that I shouldn't have any of those problems with the case that is provided on that build and that the processor and the graphics card will be able to handle my longperiod gaming at a high resolution and high graphics, then I'm okay with doing that.

Is there a way you could set me up a similar build when the new deals start? And also maybe some video tutorials on how to build it myself?

I usually play with headphones so I don't really care too much about the sound BUT i will be putting the computer in the room where me and my wife sleep, so should you recommend that I buy that extra heatsink for the noise? Or will it not even be big enough to bother her while she sleeps?

Also, I notice that the fans are around the bottom on the tower and I will be placing my computer on carpet, does that matter? Will I need to lift my computer so it's not touching carpet? I know when i put my laptop on the carpet it will overheat within 30 minutes :S

I can configure a similar build for you tomorrow when their new sale starts at ~6pm PST.

Overheating should not be an issue with any custom built desktop. The problem with placing a computer on a carpet is that it'll gather up dust quicker so you'll have to clean it more. One other possible problem is if the case has a bottom mounted power supply, you may want to mount the power supply with its fan facing upwards.

It's hard to tell you if she'll be bothered by the computer while she's sleeping as everybody's comfort level is different. Fans on the components should be near silent when the computer is idle, the most audible part of a computer during idle would be your case fans.

Here's two tutorials on building a computer:

Sweet, that would be greatly appreciated. I will look at the tutorials tonight so I can get a better idea on how to build it.

I'm currently putting my computer together, but I have a few questions.

Since I bought a Coolermaster Hyper 212+, I don't need to use the smaller fan provided with the cpu right ?

And also, if I understand correctly, I need to apply some thermal compound on both the cpu and on the top part of the fan correct ?

You can't even fit the smaller fan from the Intel stock cooler on the Hyper 212+ so don't bother doing it.

You need to apply a small amount of thermal compound on the base of the cooler, where there should be a "remove me" sticker. Don't use the paste anywhere else, it won't do anything but get your hands dirty. Just a suggestion but install the cooler on the motherboard before putting it into the case because the Hyper 212+ is one of the trickier ones to install, especially in cramped locations.

Is anybody else experiencing waaaay higher voltages required on their B3 boards (or Rev 3) compared to their non B-3 boards?

Stock speeds (3.7 Ghz boost) on my i5 2500k were 1.272V on my original board. With the new one, it requires 1.296!

Overclock to 4.5 Ghz on my original board was 1.284, sometimes 1.272V. with the new one, it requries 1.32!!!! O.o

Is this just me or are other people seeing this too?

HDT's require a specific method of applying the thermal paste, see here:
http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=170&Itemid=38&limit=1&limitstart=5

The 212+ has 4 pipes, so you'd be making 3 separate lines instead of just two.
With no power comes no responsibility?

I'm in the process of building a new computer. This is my first time building a computer so any advice would be appreciated. I will be using the computer mostly for sc2 (ultra graphics) and hopefully for streaming. I recently became interested in website design so I have been using photoshop to create simple images and templates for the websites. I plan on doing my next upgrade in about 2-3 years and I am not interested in overclocking.

Swap WD Caviar Black with Samsung F3 Spinpoint to save $20.
You don't need any PSU more powerful than this. especially since you don't want to overclock.
You can get $14 cheaper memory.. Bare memory without heatspreaders work fine.

Otherwise, everything else is fine, you might need to fiddle with the graphics settings to run Ultra really well but it can definitely do high settings no problem.

This GTX 460 768MB will perform better the 460SE at the same price.

Thanks for the quick responses. These changes will free up about $100, should I invest this in a better graphics card?

If you can buy it in time, this 2 x 4GB DDR3 is $70 (with promo code):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231426

GTX 460 768MB is a little better than the SE version, and this Asus DirectCU is somewhat factory OC'd too and cheaper at $140 (before $30 MIR):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390

Earthwatts Green 380D is a little better and cheaper now than the Corsair CX430 (both have same +12V rating anyway, so you're not losing any power there), though both are going to have to use a molex -> 6 pin power connector for a GTX 460:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371033

Despite the name, Antec One Hundred is pretty much just an alternate Three Hundred with a few more features, and it's going for $10 less:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129098

I agree with the hard drive suggestion.

With all those savings combined, you have room for a good SSD like the Crucial C300, if you want:

I made a blog about this yesterday, but I guess the best way to get info is here , so here goes:

Budget: Less than 1000 USD, 800 is the perfect target.

Resolution: 1680x1050 on a 22inch Flatron W2271TC

Used for: Gaming, browsing, possible streaming, watching stuff.

Upgrade Cycle: 2-3 years.

Time of building: by end of May.

Overclocking: Nope, not now at least.

Need OS: Yes.

Plan for SLI or Crossfire: No, possible in the future.

Buying parts from: Since I am in Bahrain, this is the best store we have around here http://www.advantionline.com/
However I do have a P.O. Box in the US and the UK, but ordering larger things will cause a ton of shipment money.

Ok so here is the current Build I have in mind:

CPU: Intel core i5-2500 sandybridge 3.3ghz
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-M LE/CSM (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel H61 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard ( I am not sure how good this is , should I go with it? )
GPU: My cheapest choice is the 5770, but I reckon its getting old. So I am not sure weather to go for a 6790, 6850 or a 6870.
Harddrive: 500GB 7200rpm
Memory: Mushkin 4GB DD3.
OS: Windows 7 64bit home premium
Power supply: No clue, if someone can recommend me one from the site I listed above or if not , what do you recommend to support this build?
Chassis: Cooler Master USP 100 Black Mid Tower Case

Thanks in advance
