HHD: You dont really need a Black if you have an SSD, check this: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=66010&vpn=ST2000DM001&manufacture=Seagate&promoid=1033
SSD: There are choices: 120GB http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=67708&vpn=SSDSC2CW120A3K5&manufacture=Intel&promoid=1033
PSU: I think this is better: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=58382&vpn=CMPSU-750TXV2 / CP-9020042-NA&manufacture=Corsair&promoid=1033
Finally, Do you need alot of GPU power for those programs or CPU power? I was under the impression that it was CPU power in which case you should drop the 670 for something like this: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=76367&vpn=GTX660-DC2O-2GD5&manufacture=ASUS&promoid=1033 or 7850/7870 with good special (not too sure of gpu pricings but that 670 doesnt look that good of a deal) and drop the really expensive mobo and upgreade to 3770k with a good cpu cooler. (actually, in anycase, you should probably drop the really expensive mobo and PSU)
Sick case :o

Let's give this a try about time to buy a new computer. Though debating saying screw it and just waiting a while longer...
What is your budget?
600~
What is your resolution? 1920x1200 with a 1650 x 1050 monitor also hooked up.
What are you using it for?
Gaming(would like to be able to run dark souls, dota 2 and diablo 3 well and the witcher 2 reasonably, at least ),web browsing and maybe a little encoding.
What is your upgrade cycle?
~4years
When do you plan on building it?
soon
Do you plan on overclocking?
Willing to try it, though airflow in my room isn't the best.
Do you need an Operating System?
yes still running xp, how bad is windows 8?
edit: Can't get windows from university/work for free.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire?
No.
Where are you buying your parts from?
Online (canadian?) retailers, live in toronto could consider going for a trip somewhere.
other nonsense 8gb of ram given current usage.
an ssd would be nice.
have a 1.5 tb hard drive could reuse though it is getting full.
Idling quitely and a limited number of leds on the case would be nice.

For SSD you want Samsung series 830/840 (most recomended usually), crucial m4 or v4, plextor m3 or intel 330/510 series i believe
you are missing an aftermarket heatsink to OC
you could get the CM haf912 which would be cheaper
PSU wouldn't be my first choice but it's a nice price and will let you eventually CX down the road i guess...
as for the monitor wait for womwomwom he's the guy for that (or go check the monitor thread), but i doubt he'll advise getting a 27" 1080p screen

Everyone seems to have missed it but the memory you have is for laptops, you need desktop memory: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=78421&promoid=1033
You're missing a heatsink for overclocking: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=41337&promoid=1033

1080p on a 27" isn't going to look very good. I'd suggest getting the U2312HM for $179: http://accessories.dell.com/sna/products/productdetail.aspx?c=ca&l=en&s=dhs&cs=cadhs1&sku=320-2807

So these changes?
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K LGA1155 3.5GHZ
SSD: Samsung 840 Series 120GB 2.5in SATA3 MDX Solid State Disk Flash Drive SSD
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 660
PSU: Corsair TX750 V2 750W
MOBO: Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 ATX LGA1155
Heatsink: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus
- Keep -
RAM: Patriot Signature 16GB 2X8GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 PC3-10600 204-PIN 1.5V SODIMM Memory
HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black 2TB 64MB Cache 7200RPM 3.5IN SATA Internal Hard Drive OEM
CASE: Antec P180 (This is my case, I already own it.)
Now we're coming to just $1052 ($1032 without the sink). Now I guess I could also do as you say Ata, and change the HDD, but I'm not sure about it. Some important things (mostly video games :p) might find their way on the HDD will I notice a difference?
Extra Questions:
Does anyone know of how the GTX 660 performs?
Will I need more then 750w if I ever decided to SLI down the road?
Is the Heatsink going to be sufficient with just a couple of fans?
Thanks for all the help so far, you guys have been pretty terrific, I didn't think I would get a response much less two over the holidays. Thanks again.

First of all, manufacturer-listed response time figures are pretty much not at all comparable. In practice, lots of people play games on monitors like U2312HM and have no issues at all. On the other hand, some rare people get pissed off if they don't use CRTs, because everything else looks blurry to them. If you think that you're particularly sensitive to ghosting, more so than most gamers, and you play games with fast jerky movement, I would avoid a (relatively fast for IPS) monitor like the U2312HM. Otherwise, you're probably okay. In fact, more people—which is to say, not too many—are probably bothered more by the relatively heavy antiglare coating.
If you're not sure, it's better to check it out in person first.
U2312HM would have the advantage of better image quality overall, a fully-adjustable stand, and a much better warranty.

This came out to about $1072 after the couple mail and rebates/sales (which end January 2nd seemingly). If all of this works well together, I'm willing to go up from the $1100 to $1200, for anything extra I may need (cooling?). I already have a capable heat sink, and a couple fans, but they're getting on in years so I will probably replace them. Any suggestions there is appreciated. I'm trying to find out if all of these pasts will be compatible together, fit in my case, perform well, and if there are better cheaper choices. I tried to do everything the best I could myself, but I very much doubt I'm quite as capable as the rest of you. Anyways, I'd appreciate any help, thanks. Why Z68?
That's LAPTOP RAM, not compatible.
TX750 V2 would be overkill for two GTX 660s, more like three in that config.
Hyper 212 Plus's single included fan is enough unless you really want to push the overclocks (generally not worth the time, extra power consumption, higher temperatures, and so on).
GTX 660 is good, suitable for 1080p gaming. How good? http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/660 http://www.anandtech.com/show/6276/nvidia-geforce-gtx-660-review-gk106-rounds-out-the-kepler-family http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Gigabyte/GTX_660_OC/27.html

Useful System Info: Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 @3.2Ghz MSI P35 Diamond ATX Evga 9800 GTX @770/1910 Seagate 750GB SATA II 7200rpm HDD Beige Beast Case
HP vs17 17" 1280 x 1024 60Hz Monitor
I want to upgrade something as I got a good amount of loot from Christmas.
Max Budget: ~$200
I'm debating between: 1080p Monitor New Case+Fan controller+Fans
My current case is terrible, the only thing that works is the power button as all the other cords are missing. So I'm thinking a new case would be useful now and later when I upgrade my system. Although when I upgrade my system I kind of want to go mATX or smaller, however I would need an ATX case to fit my current components.
I don't think my GPU is powerful enough to play games at 1080p. Currently I barely average 60FPS in the Farcry 2 built-in benchmark (ranch short) on DX9 Medium.
So what do you guys think? Monitor or Case? Or something completely different?

So, I'm not seeing a Z77-GD45 on NICX. Is that the ZZ7A-G45? Tried using Google as well, and it just linked me to the same card on the MSI website.
My bad, how about 2X8 GB DDR3 from Kingston? Thanks for catching it, I went through the boxing sale page, and I didn't even think to check nor do I really know how to differentiate between the two.
I'll also just drop down to a 2TB Seagate might as well save the money ($918 after everything), thanks again.

Like Asus VS229H-P (can use as secondary down the road I guess) and NZXT Source 220 or whatever. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236205 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146083

G45 should be it.
That new RAM should be okay. The laptop RAM is shorter and is labeled SODIMM.
XFX Core 750W is same as Corsair TX750 V2 except with a quieter fan. It's a little cheaper too. Both are way overkill (only going to hurt idle efficiency a little, and having extra cables), but sure, if you want to easily power whatever you want later on: http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=59617&promoid=1033

Yeah i just forgot the A and messed up its GD 55 and 65

I would strongly recommend against the hyper 212 evo. It's just a hyper 212+ with a bad lap job and a slightly better fan that is still loud as fuck and your just going to end up replacing anyways. My point is that the evo is not a better heatsink than the hyper 212+ - you can do a better lap job yourself (not that I'd even recommend that), and most critically, it's not worth the $9 price premium.
A better buy would be for you to buy a Hyper 212+, a better fan (Yate Loon for $5, a very high quality budget fan that'll improve cooling and has a quieter profile), and some PK-3 thermal paste (1.5g for $4 will keep you at same price as Evo and give you plenty left over for future builds or to replace the paste on your GPU even). The difference in the Hyper 212+ vs Evo at stock is much smaller than simply using PK-3 thermal paste, the best thermal paste you can buy that isn't exotic (all the better pastes cost a LOT more, limited availability, and, has difficult properties like conducts electricity, which doesnt matter, but what does matter, is some of them melt aluminum, which is what the hyper 212 base has on it).
Also, the Hyper 212 or Evo, even with 2x fans and high performance thermal paste, simply won't offer enough cooling to push a 3570k as far as you want. Now if you want to go with a budget cooler, go with the hyper 212+ and call it a day (dont even buy better thermal paste. or do, whatever), it's a great buy and you can push 4ghz+ easily, and even 4.5+ if you get a really good chip.
But if you really want the most of your 3570k, get a high end cooler, a dual tower heatsink, like the NH-D14/Phanteks/Silver Arrow/K2/Assassin. You can find the NH-D14 for around $40 used on ebay, and at such a price, it's a great fucking deal. They are still covered under warranty even when bought used, and, because it has no eletronics on it, it's not like it fucking matters if it's used or even if it has a few dings.
But what's really a gem, is this:
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=33412
This is by far the best deal on a heatsink right now that you'll find anywhere. It will cool your 3570k at LEAST 15*C cooler than a hyper 212 evo, it's an amazing heatsink and ranks among the best in the world. Arguably, it is the best, in apples to apples testing. $39 new.

Okay, cool, thanks again. I'll switch the two at $65 after the rebate I don't really mind going overkill (especially considering I now have so much breathing room). I appreciate the little education, and all the help (from all of you).

I would strongly recommend you read up on the differences between the Evo and Plus. Evo has higher FPI than the Plus. Also the Evo and Plus are normally around the same price.

First of all, no one was insisting on purchasing the 212 EVO. Second of all, shipping kills that deal.

This is a computer i am building for my girlfriends little brother. What is your budget? 500$ tax in
What is your resolution? Unknown, I need a new monitor but it is not included in price. The dad was hoping for a 25-27" monitor if you have any suggestions or boxing day prices.
What are you using it for?
He plays minecraft, I was hoping maybe be able to play recent games on low to medium graphics such as sc2, dota 2 etc. Other than that youtube and general browsing.
What is your upgrade cycle? Unkown? When required.
When do you plan on building it? Hopefully buy all the parts tomorrow or within the next week. (Before jan 7)
Do you plan on overclocking? No.
Do you need an Operating System? No.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No.
Where are you buying your parts from? I live in Canada and have 2 Canada Computers near my house so i was hoping for some sales there for tomorrow, but I am perfectly fine purchasing them online.
Thank you very much, Merry Christmas.
