These days, putting a basic computer together is plug and play. Basically all you have to do is watch some Youtubes on computer building, follow the pictures inside your motherboard manual, and plug everything in. Motherboards are smart enough to choose perfectly good settings automatically; if it doesn't turn on its either you've done something wrong or the hardware is actually dead on arrival.

anyways so i need to build a budget pc that will run sc2 on decent settings (not looking for ultra, but will take it if its possible obv) my budget is roughly 550$ and i'm looking to do all my shopping on newegg through combo deals (so i can get something decent with such a low budget). Now i don't really know where to start... my previous pc (which was stolen :[ ) was some shitty dell with an ati x1300 pro. I was forced to play on low settings so i'm hoping to improve on that. My monitor i have is 1280x1024 resolution and i already have a keyboard and mouse set up. So yeah any help would be awesome! I've been browsing the combo deals on newegg but honestly i have no clue whats a good deal and whats compatible with what. Thanks for any help i receive! edit: budget is pretty firm because i'm living paycheck to paycheck. eventually i would hope to upgrade certain parts as funds become available.

It looks like a decent starting place for planning pure gaming computers, though of course one-size-fits-all advice rarely perfectly applies to everybody's needs. Nice! This chart is so informative. Generally when you install a graphics card you put in a PCIE x16 slot (and it runs at x16). When running multiple cards the configuration (depending on the cpu and/or motherboard) could drop to x8 on each card or x16 and x4. If you look at your mobo's specs it says it has 2 x16 slots but one of them runs at x4. So if you install two ati cards in crossfire they will run at x16 and x4 (I'm not sure but I don't think your mobo can SLI).

This is my mobo, I don't see anything like that in the details. Also, what site did you find that at, Myrmidon? He's talking about how much bandwidth the PCI-E x16 slots provide. You have a P55 board so having just one GPU will net you a full x16. Adding another GPU will get you x8/x8. Adding a third one will get you x8/x4/x4. If the motherboard has a nf200 chip than it would be able to do x16/x16 or x16/x8/x8. In comparison to the X58 which can do x16/x16 or x16/x16/x8.

Or you could go with Intel and a Core i5-760 and corresponding LGA 1156 mobo. (or wait a month and go with one of Intel's 2nd gen Core i5 with a corresponding LGA 1155 mobo) 500W is plenty enough for any single-GPU system. There would be cheaper options than this, but the quality is great, especially for the price. The Truepower New was not a bad choice, but not necessary unless you were looking to replace CPU+mobo and run 2 GPUs one day. There's a decent case above. 4 GB RAM is enough for gaming. If you need more, you can always grab 4 GB more whenever--RAM upgrades are pretty trivial anyway. I don't know about which brand and models of GTX 570 are best, but EVGA is always a safe choice. That model has lifetime warranty upon registration for about $10 more than the other cards were going for--the GTX 570 is plenty powerful enough to last a while, so you might as well go with that.

Can you stretch the budget a little bit? The case and PSU both look unsuitable for a system more demanding than an office PC. Rosewill's low-end PSU offerings are notorious for killing computers. Their Green series and some other offerings are reasonable budget units, but this is not one of them. Also, there is some higher-rated 2x2 GB DDR3 RAM going for cheaper than that, both in terms of user rating and performance specs. Everything looks compatible though, but I didn't check the case dimensions at all, since I wouldn't recommend that case anyway. edit: also, what are you using the computer for?

Cooler Master Elite 330 - $40 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119115 Antec Neo Eco 400C - $45 (before -15 MIR) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371029 That Rosewill PSU didn't list efficiency, so that was probably pretty terrible (and thus it probably runs hot and loud). It also didn't have active power factor correction--that's a feature that doesn't really matter, but there's a strong correlation between not having APFC and being a bad PSU. There's no technical reviews (load testing, component analysis) for that kind of low-end PSU, so it's kind of hard to say what in particular could be wrong. It looked like none/few of the newegg customer reviews were for gaming systems that actually stress the components. If you're just pulling 100W from even a cruddy PSU, it's probably doing to be fine.

Wait a minute, aren't you overclocking the CPU? If not, you don't need the Hyper 212+. edit: if overclocking, you probably want 1600 MHz RAM like this for $55. If not, a normal 1333 MHz kit even with no heatspreaders is probably fine, like this or this.

Retail boxed CPUs come with their own heatsink/fan, so you don't need a higher-performance aftermarket CPU cooler like the Hyper 212+. I thought you were overclocking, since that would be the reason to get an aftermarket cooler. You can get rid of the Hyper 212+ then.

i am planning on upgrading my system, but i think to rly get something going i need a new board. Currently my motherboard has an AM2 socket [MSI K9N] and i think there is not much room for upgrading my system to run smoothly, but i can be totally wrong here^^ My system apart from the board is: Athlon X2 4200+ 2GB DDR2 RAM Windows XP GeForce 8600GTS bequiet! 430W Pure Power 500 GB HDD SATA Samsung 7200rpm It would be nice to get a statement of somebody who knows something about Hardware ( i am noob^^ ) and i think i am right in here ![]() My budget is rly low (as usual xD) so which system would be cheap but running SC2 smoothly at 1920x1080? I guess I have to get a new board though
