The 3820, is quad instead of dual channel, 10mb L3 Cache instead of 8, 3.6 Ghz instead of 3.5.. All for like 20 bucks cheaper. It seems like such a better deal.
Yes its mainly for computer gaming but also what to do some HD streaming of even games like battlefield3. So its going to need to be stocked.
Im thinking the dual cards in SLI so their isnt as much work on just 1 card. Also I want tri monitor set up. I saw the 590 has 3 dvi out's on it but I dont want to pay 700 for it.
Thanks for explaining that the bench marks are pretty much worthless. X79 motherboards are twice as expensive as Z77... Stock clock is irrelevant since you are overclocking lol. You're getting a 3820 yet you're complaining about the cost of a shitty GTX 590 being $700...
wait why a 590 in the first place? why isnt he getting a new gen card?

My new build won't post. Help please.
Asus sabertooth z77 intel i5 3570k 2x4gb corsair vengeance NZXT 850w hale82 series
Is all I have plugged in right now. Double checked all the connections, they seem to be fine. When I turn on the power supply, I get a green light on the motherboard. When I short the PWR SW pins with a screw driver to turn it on, the fan on the PSU budges a little bit and then nothing happens. CPU fan doesn't spin, no additional lights on the mobo, nothing.
I've tried resetting the bios, I've tried booting with 1 stick of ram instead of 2... still nothing.
If I were to guess, I would say I have a bad power supply?

3820 is only 300, when compared with other top i7 sandy bridge proc's it seems like a great deal for the better specs/same price. A strong proc is a great place to start.
The 590 just seems like its not worth the money for me. However the extra cache/ghz basic speeds over the 3820 proc over the 2700k seem worth it for 300.

Ive taken some advice. I don't think the Sabretooth is needed.

Why do you want quad channel support? It is utterly useless for 99% of people. You are not the 1% that can benefit from it. The Intel i7 3820 is the shitty X79 processor that is worse than the i7 2600k. The only LGA2011 processor worth anything is the Intel i7 3930k and that's because of the core/thread count.
Edit: I've already given you a very good sample build. What is honestly wrong with it?
Power Supply: 450W Rosewill Capstone, DVD Drive: Optiarc SSD for programs: Crucial SSD 120GB Motherboard: MSI Z77 G43 Processor: i5 3570K with $20 gift card GPU: HD7850 with $20 rebate. Memory: Gskill 8GB Hard Drive for data: 2TB Barracuda Green CPU Cooler: Hyper 212+ with $10 rebate. Case: Lian Li PC-K9B w/ window with discount coupon (LLMay2012)
Total: Hitting around $1,100 minus speakers, keyboard, monitor, and operating system. A similar system from ibuypower is $1,337 using the configuration tool. Assuming Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit is $100, that gives you $137 to put towards a good sound system like some Audioengines, which will sound a hell lot better than any multimedia pack on the market.

You don't need nearly that many watts for that GPU, you want a quality 400w unit so something like neo eco 400c or something.
You also don't want a Z77 with a 2nd gen i3, you want something like an H67.

Thank you for your response, but I don't want to take any chances with lower watts. Could you see if the PSU is compatible with the GPU? Also, what would be a good heatsink for the GPU?

You don't need to buy a seperate heatsink for the GPU, they come with one.
And I am actually 200% sure that that PSU will power your build, to the point that I'll point out that I had a 520c (480w on 12v rail) powering a gtx 680, a 6870, and a 2600k @5ghz all at max load.
edit: the whole marketing campaign to try to convince people that they need 3-4x their actual wattage is ridiculous.

I have a GPU with 3gb VRAM. But on the system settings, it only shows 2790 mb of vram is that supposed to be correct?

The difference is how memory capacity is measured. You, and the manufacturer, use decimal. Your computer uses binary. Your video card for example has 3 gigabytes; "gigabytes" is decimal. In binary, 1 gigabyte (1 billion bytes) is more than a billion bytes; 1,073,741,824 exactly.
3,000,000,000 bytes / 1,073,741,824 bytes = 2.79396772 gigabytes; which is exactly what your system is reporting. Everything okay here.

Thanks! Another question, Crysis is running at like 20 FPS with a 7950 GPU and a 965 BE CPU! Is my CPU bottlenecking the GPU or is it the problem in the game?

Hey guys I'm here waiting for microcenter to open to buy an i5 3570k and z77 pro4m 1155. I have a 430w psu, if I'm going to overclock will it be enough with a single Gtx 460? And I am planning to buy the rosewill challenger case. Also, could you guys recommend a mobo for an i5 3450 from microcenter?

Xeo, what brand/model is your 430w power supply? If it is a good one, then it is more than enough, if it is bad, then maybe not.

You might want to use NCIX. Prices are probably better and you get to help out a Canadian business.
Anyway, any H61 board is fine. Just pick anyone from MSI, Asrock, or Asus. Doesn't really matter how expensive or cheap it is as long as it has the features you know you're going to use. For instance, if you need 6 rear USB ports then get a motherboard that has that.
