I’ve decided to get serious about PC gaming. Help me with my first gaming computer! Need one that will run smooth and sexy. Thanks. What is your budget? $1200 (Can go over if neccessary for smooth sailing). What is your resolution? I have an Asus V236H - 1920x1080 What are you using it for? Gaming/Streaming What is your upgrade cycle? 2 years, 1.5 at earliest if necessary. When do you plan on building it? ASAP this week, just need help Do you plan on overclocking? Definitely Do you need an Operating System? No, I plan on using Windows 7 (64 bit) Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? No Where are you buying your parts from? Wherever the best place is... Online, or I do also have a local Microcenter Also: I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 (Evo), courtesy of my friend. I want it to be silent as well, computer sound is annoying lol. Want 6 Usb Ports in it and 2 HDMI Ports Thanks Again!

The problem with buying everything at Microcenter is that they don't have a great selection of components and their pricing on some components are higher than other retailers.

- Swap the i5 2500k to i5 2400 or 2500 depending on price. - Maybe get a larger SSD. Who knows how much you need though. - Maybe get a larger HDD. I recommend just getting 5400RPM storage drives. - Ditch the monitor since its like $300. You can deal with Dell Ultrasharps, if you don't mind thicker antiglare coatings or get a Catleap on eBay, if you don't mind playing monitor panel roulette or using PayPal to curbstomp the seller if they refuse to provide support.

the price difference between the 2400 and 2500 is about 20 euros from where i buy it. So will the 2500 be worth the extra 20? Also can i change the motherboard since i wont overclock? And i can also remove the Cooler master hyper212 evo right?

Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive + Crucial M4 64GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ^Are both of these in the same computer too much overkill? Or fine?

Since you're not likely to fit all your games on the 64GB SSD with your OS and productivity stuff, it's fine. It's only strange if you have enough SSD for all your slower loading programs and are using 7200 RPM or faster for pure media storage.

He should not limit himself to locked boards. Maybe he plays around with it a bit and realize overclocking is easy. Overclocking a Sandy Bridge is not more difficult than your GPU in Afterburner. The motherboard is Ivy Bridge-optimized. If he has no plan on getting an Ivy Bridge processor then you can switch with a P67 board if you wanted to (There's barely any left in that store though so I just went for z77 since the price difference was so small).
