micronesia, microcenter has $50 off certain z68 motherboards if you buy a 2500k, so that would probably be the cheapest motherboard for you.

I don't see any of these deals for April... only for the 2600k. Which ones were you referring to?

Hey guys i'm working on a new build that will be primarily for gaming (in particular starcraft 2) and something that will last a few years. Here is what i'm working with so far:

Case: Rosewill Challenger Mid Tower Case (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153)
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514)
Processor: AMD FX-6100 Zambezi 3.3 Ghz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103962)
Memory: 2x Corsair Vengance 8 gb ddr3 1600 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145345)
Power Supply: Corsair series TX750 750W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139021)
GPU: XFX HD6850 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150573)
HDD: Western Digital 500 GB Sata 3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136358)
WIndows 7 home premium

The price point is around where I would like this to stay at. I will most likely start with stock heat sink/fans. Please give me some feedback. Will all the parts even be compatible with one another (sorry i'm slightly new at this)?

Thanks!

Answer the questions in the OP... or we're all just going to assume you want to do it due to component selection even though you have no intention of doing it.

And I'm not sure if you're trolling or not if this is primarily for Starcraft II.

Bulldozer sucks, get a core i5 2500k and P67 / Z68 instead.

16gb of memory is pointless for gaming. Are you going to multi-box WoW? Probably not...

Doing CrossfireX with shitty 6850s is pointless, it is not necessary for Starcraft II and most other games at 1080p. 750w is also overkill for CrossfireX 6850. Downgrade to a 500w unit if you are not doing CrossfireX, a 650w if you are.

Use money saved to get a SSD or a 7850.

Thanks JingleHell and skyR, I made yet a few more updates to my list to try to finalize it:

processor: 2400k2500k $180 microcenter
mobo: $85 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005HIRD50/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
case: $40 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003ZM7YTA/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER
RAM: $39 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226249 (unless someone links me to a better deal for ram from a somewhat reputable company that I've actually heard of
SSD: $140 with promo code http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?SID=FzkcUICjEeGLtX6WTPcdwA0&AID=10440897&PID=1225267&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=N82E16820147163
GPU: $140 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150521
PSU: $50 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139028
Cooler: $27 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065

A couple of those prices assume mail in rebates but it isn't a large difference.

The key differences are I went to a (hopefully) better SSD, saved some money on the case, and saved some money on the psu/cooler

Still not sure what I'll do about the OS... would I be better off shelling out $100 for W7 now, or screwing around with w8 beta and delaying the problem?

Is the Samsung 830 really at $140? Because that's not going to last long =\

Besides the CX430v2, the rest of the series sort of sucks in terms of price. You can get Antec Earthwatts 650 for same $50 after mail in rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371044

If you're open to buying from multiple retailers, you can get a better Mushkin kit for $40: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=60640&promoid=1101

And you can get the Hyper 212+ for $23: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=41337&promoid=1101

Hey guys,

currently I am thinking about building a new computer as my old one doesn't even manage to run Skyrim properly on low settings.

- My budget is around 1000€ which equals around 1200-1300$.
- I am not really sure about my gaming resolution as I need to run it quite low so my computer won't lag. Does my usual desktop resolution help anything here?
- I mostly use my computer for my gaming. Other stuff like writing mails too, of course ;-) But nothing that needs special equipment or power.
- Upgrade cycle so far is pretty pretty low as I often bought finished computersets from stores which made it hard to impossible to replace parts of the build.
- The time to actually build it would be from right now to sometime during the next month.
- I have never overclocked anything so far. If it is not too hard to do and nothing can actually be destroyed by me because I have no clue of hardware, then I might think of doing it. If you actually need to understand what you do: then no...no overclocking for me^^
- I don't need an OS. I already have Windows 7 32 bit. (Would it make sense to upgrade to 64 bit with a new system?)
- Using crossfire sounds interesting to me even though I wouldn_t know whether it makes more sense to get 2 cheaper cards or 1 really powerful one. I guess using crossfire would depend if it fits with the rest of the build or not?
- I live in Germany and will have to buy my parts here.

Now, as I am fully aware that you guys have better things to do than just do everything for me, I am more than willing to have a look for parts as well. The problem is: I literally have no knowledge of computer hardware whatsoever.
If you give me some advice where to look and what to look for though, I will most certainly have a look myself. However, with my current knowledge it just doesn't make any sense to look for myself.

Thank you very much for your time guys!

You can get a nice new monitor and a new computer capable of running games on that monitor well, for 1000 euros, so I'd just do that.

I didn't crosscheck prices with other retailers or look that hard, but as a general idea.

Intel Core i5-2400 - €164

You can easily get a better monitor; I just won't get something worse than that. The above includes an SSD and fairly premium components and features all around, and has the computational power to run whatever games fine.

Hey guys, I'm trying to decide on an SSD for a new build later this month. I've narrowed it down to these:

SSD Comparison

If you have experience with any of these SSDs any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

hey guys, this is what im working with right now, expected build date is end of the month. Rig is for gaming (SC2, dota2, LoL, Diablo 3, etc.) and some general work stuff (maybe a bit of light coding, nothing major).
few questions about my build, please though feel free to critique anything else:
- PSU i think is a little too big (wattage wise) for my setup but it's not something i'm very knowledgable about, therefore open to suggestions.
- CPU cooler seems a little expensive to me, I am planning on OC-ing, prb not on the first day I get it but it will happen eventually.
- If I can find enough money to spare in this build somewhere I wouldn't be opposed to a bigger SSD, but I do have lots of HDD space, so it's a bit of a luxury i think.

The timing of buying this may be pretty close with the release of the next gen of processors, although I don't know if they will be at a similar price range to the i5-2500k to fit within my $1000 budget.

no, well yes... and no, weird question to answer. for example crucial and samsung. edit 3: i mean if you consider crucial m4 and samsung 830 "up to date" then no, they use their own controller.

Ahh. What do you guys (skyR, Jingle, etc) think of those mobos on the bottom right of page 27? The ones labeled 50-off will obv be 50 dollars less than the price.

I'll defer to skyR, because he seems to keep up with existing lower and mid-range mobos more than I do. Or he's less lazy about checking them out. One of the two.

On the left side, the Gigabyte Z68AP-D3. For $35 I'd take it too:
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/motherboards/2011/10/11/gigabyte-ga-z68ap-d3-review/1

edit: though really, it's $50 after the -$50 with a $15 rebate...not really $35.
