Hopefully this means we see Artosis in non-GSL a lot more now! Also, if he's not able to cast GSL online, I hope they bring on State full-time. He was awesome with Tasteless!

Can't say I'd blame Afreeca for not permitting online casts of GSL. Maybe some tri-casts with Artosis casting remotely would be a good compromise. Hell even guest casts from time to time would be rad. Gonna miss him.

This is a smart move though, with the Blizzard ESL contract ending after this year the future of SC2 esports in 2023+ is very much in doubt sadly. It's been a good run but leaving after GSL S3 is good timing and could help him be able to stream on twitch more during NA/EU hours. Just one more sign of the times. Best of luck to Artosis. Will be interested to see what Tasteless does in the future as well. He seems to also be trying to build a Youtube presence but not as successfully.

And greatest of luck to Artosis and his family, thats a great family decision and we are all going to miss him. The GSL, like most esport events, Starcraft or otherwhise, is financed partly by Blizzard. In 2020, Blizz negociated a 3 year deal with them and ESL, it's up this year and we don't know what's next after it. The GSL in its current form is most likelly not durable without Blizzard support.

I might just be dead wrong on this, but I thought GSL was never part of the deal between Blizzard with ESL. Afreeca pretty much run the GSL events by themselves, with sponsorship from KR product companies. The only thing that Blizzard has to do with GSL is that its their game, but no financial support is involved.

I also wonder about GSL though. Even if GSL continues, it's been... man, 10 years strong with Tastosis. Seeing them cast GSL is like comfort food at this point. Those two even predate the rise of big YouTubers. Definitely sad to see that come to an end.

It was nice meeting you at various events way back in the WGT/WCG era and the first few DH in Europe outside Sweden for SC2, glad you ll be able to attend more of those in an easier way as tournaments resume, hopefully DH Montreal too. Thanks for all the work in Korea and for the scene.

Because of course he'd do that. More seriously, if you're wondering why he's doing this, he explains it at the start of his most recent stream. His reasons are fairly sound I think and this seems like the best choice for his family.

thanks to Artosis (and Tasteless) for all the memories. It was a lot of fun, especially the 2008-10 pro in-house tours, NonY's insane courage run and that couple of early GSL seasons. Fantastic stuff. Anyway.. Best of luck in your new place. Cheers ![]()

Honestly, I thought it would be better (and we saw it) sometimes with Arty + one guest caster, I enjoyed Special’s insight especially, Scan was good and I was OK to see more of it. Assuming Artosis can’t do it, I thought Tasteless did a great job letting State do his thing. Tasteless + a rotating cast of racial specialists or whoever from the foreign scene is in Korea at the time could work really well, he’s just such a genial guy it basically works whoever you stick alongside him. Obviously Tastosis has that intangible quality, but we’ll be fine. I wonder if his kids have picked up decent Korean chops, give them a little bilingual leg up being back in the Americas!

He will be able to make his own hours, and even getting taxed to hell I'm sure he'll make plenty of money for his family. I'm glad he stayed in Korea as long as he did, and I'm thankful for all the seasons if excellent casting he's given us along with Tasteless. I wonder if Tasteless will follow suit eventually. He is the more eclectic and interesting personality of the two in my opinion, you can pair him with virtually any other caster and he will do great. Between the draconian social systems, lack of space, and bizarrely superficial Korean culture (and horrific air quality) I imagine Tasteless will find a new home, eventually. He seems like the type to retire in style, streaming from a bungalo on the coast of a nice area in a South American country.

Tho it does make sense for him. He has a wife and a bunch of kids and living in Korea forever is probably not the best long term. Moving there he will be closer to family which will be better for his kids. Hopefully it works out good for him and we can still see him cast tournaments

tbh i'm not sure how I would feel about GSL online casts. maybe it would be cool if Tasteless was casting live with someone else (possibly rotating) and Artosis would give his input between games or something. I never really thought I would ever read this news but it does make sense. he's truly come a long way from jumping over the barrier so he doesn't have to pay subway fare to getting a house for his family in PEI. I'm weirdly proud of Artosis.

In his duo with Tasteless, Artosis was supposed to be the anaytical caster. However, if you watch the last SC2 GSL games that he casted, you will notice that he called the games prematurely and incorrectly nearly half of the time. Of course, he is a historical figure in the Starcraft scene, and people genuinely love him for it. But you can't live forever on past achievements and fame. I'm sure he'll eventually make the majority of his money from streaming/BW, and I wish him the best of luck in doing what he really loves.

I genuinely don't think that SC2 would have survived for how long as it did without Tastosis. They were the best. Their chemistry was incredible, and they never lost their magic in over ten years of casting together. Happy for Artosis, and I couldn't think of a better place to raise kids, but man does this feel like the end of GSL to me... Also, from the Tasteless video: "Would I be open to casting GSL live with anyone else but Artosis? No. I don't wanna do it with anybody else but Artosis." Man that's good to hear.

The prime mover is an unbelievably great video game franchise. This franchise attracts some great people. I'd say Artosis career rests upon the efforts of the brilliant men who created Starcraft. I'd say the Starcraft franchise does not rest upon Artosis' efforts. I personally love Starcraft. That said, in the wider scheme of things the Starcraft franchise, as great as it is gameplay wise, isn't that great of a financial success. To put things into perspective Pacman brought in over $1 Billion in 1980 for Namco. The Starcraft franchise is now 24 years old and has yet to hit the Billion dollar mark in revenue.

Sports—and by extension E-Sports—is all about creating entertaining live TV. StarCraft is a community, and even for some of us its nostalgia, and personalities are inter-wound with it. Removing the iconic casting duo will irrevocably affect GSL viewership, just as English viewership of Brood War sky-rocked when Tasteosis began live casting the ASL a few years back. 80% of viewership jumping ship? Probably not; but, do not underestimate the magnitude of this—this is a big loss for StarCraft live commentary. On a personal note, Tasteless and Artosis when doing solo-casts, they just lack that special-something. Day[9] gone; InControl, RIP brother, gone; and now Artosis, gone.
