WTL Winter Power Hexagons
The WTL is back! Many discussions have been had around the changes to the format, from the integration of delegations, the addition new-old maps or the choice to randomize the initial map on which players would play. But there is one crucial feature of the WTL that has been brought back to universal applause (I take your silence for your approbation) I'm talking of course of the Power Hexagon.
The operation is simple, each WTL players get analyzed by a crack team of Chinese Starcraft 2 analysts (probably helped by top of the line computer software) and broke down into six characteristics that get ranked on a 10 points grade:
- Attack - Micro - Strategy - Defense - Mindset - Macro
Now of course, there's some limitations to this model, can a player really be described by a simple 60 points grade? Of course not, and that's why WTL have address the problem by adding a bar graph with 4 new measurements, to bring the whole to more reasonable 100 points grade. The SCboy analysts have revealed the data composing this complex new bar graph:
- Condition - Earning - Stability - Winning percentage
In any cases, this thread will serve as a way to follow the evolution of the Power Hexagons and the struggle of pro against the precisely engineered algorithm of SCBoy.

Nice work not only giving us all the Hexagons but also some nice analysis on it Great take in it as well, thanks

Cham beating both ace zergs of DPG was insane!
|
Cham also beat everyone by having the biggest smile in all of the submitted the profile pics.

Lol mana still perfectly balanced as all things should be.

surprised nobody is a 90+, maru seems like the highest in the league with and 89, but it also feels like trap rogue dark should be closer or above

For the bar graph, condition depends on how many wins they have in recent 10 games, so online monsters like clem cure and zest will have is very high. And each point for earning is $100000, the closest person to a 10 is rogue, if he can win something big again. If you earn less than $100000 but higher than $20000 (I think that's the number) that's also a one, so percival and some other GP and NV's team members could also get a 0 on that.

And stability is now a mistery, all top players got a 8 and only maru get a 9.

Clearly the "earning" measurement isn't something as trivial as prize money earn, it relate to a complex mix of monetary values, but also the spiritual development earn with Starcraft as well as the social and intellectual development. Rogue being a zerg player doing only brain dead op build and as thus having no friends, all the money in the world can't make up for it.
But seriously, ya it seems like a mistake there's probably a couple more like that. While I haven't check, if last season is to be believe about half the point total vs actual point don't balance.

Upsets of the week The SCBoy analysts have been hard at work last week trying to figure out how team GP had managed to dupe the system. Their effort were not entirely successful as both Prince ( at -11) and Ryung (at -14) split maps vs their opponent, although Cham was visibly destabilized by playing someone of the exact same Hexagonal strength in Scarlett. The upset of the week does not goes to them though, but rather to Zoun who split blows with Maru despite being a -23 points underdog.
Changes This season, the WTL teams seems to have become a lot more reactive to adjust their Hexagon, here's are the biggest winner and loser of week 1.
Biggest winner: Classic: +6 Overall points (+1 micro, +1 defense, +2 condition, +2 winning percentage) Biggest loser: SpeCial: -4 Overall points (-3 condition, -2 micro, -1 attack, +1 macro, +1 winning percentage) A special mention to Rogue who would have had a -5 deduction if it wasn't for the readjustment of his earning stats.

Thanks for the data collection and analysis. Also, I would love WTL to add another bar chart for the "matchup-strength" to give players an actual measurement on that, probably to replace one of the "Condition" or "Stability" column as they seems to mean the same thing. Like Clem TvZ would probably be a 9 or 10, but his TvT would only be a 6 or 7 imo.

Upsets of the week The GP coaches clearly expect nothing but the best of their players and not even scoring the biggest upset in WTL history could prevent him for getting benched for failing to win an even match last week. The gods should have punished such a immense display of hubris, but GP challenged the judgment of the divinities as well as the all mighty hexagons of men. Prince had the biggest upset of the week, going 1-1 at -21, and Percival did as much winning the ace at -15 vs Solar (after equalizing vs TIME at -5). Going into week 4, GP now have a differential of +153.
The nonsense of the Korean squad shouldn't hide the display of MaxPax scoring one of the only 2-0 upset vs Trap (-10) and of RagnaroK (beating Clem tvz at -14)
Changes The frantic algorithm of the Power Hexagon kept on churning out many changes this week.
Biggest winner: Zest +6 overall points (+5 condition, +1 stability) Biggest loser: ByuN -7 overall points (-2 condition, -3 macro, -2 defense, -1 strategy, +1 attack) Special mention to Cure who lost two points, and as such suffered a -8 points swing toward Zest, yet another indubitable proof that the protoss got cheat out of his GSL.

Upsets of the week With the Stay at Home Story cup giving the SCBoy analysts a few more days to work with, one could have though they would have created their best hexagons yet, but looking at the upsets of the week it seemed like they instead joined their German brothers in heavy drinking and debauchery.
RagnaroK (-10), Classic (-13) and Zoun (-16) all punched above their weight with the latter scoring a 2-0 over Dark. It was another disappointing performance by DPG zerg duo, who now led their team to two defeats despite a 125 hexagonal points differential.
But the woes of DPG were not even the biggest oversight of the hexagons as team GP continued their Cinderella story. The Power Hexagons authorities doubled down on their assessment of GP's players and actually decreased the points of both Percival and Cham going into week 4. On the opposite, the highest ranking player Maru had been increased even higher, scoring a near perfect 91 and becoming the first ''S+'' player. The set up was too perfect for Prince, who secured GP win with a -28 points upsets.
Changes The Hexagonal neural network didn't made any sweeping changes this week but gave some well earned reward to a couple of players.
Biggest winners: ByuN +5 overall points (+3 condition, -2 winning percentage, +1 attack, +1 strategy, +1 defense, +1 macro) and Prince + 5 overall points (+1 condition, -1 stability, +1 winning percentage, +1 attack, +1 micro, +1 strategy, +1 macro). Upset of the week
The algorithm got almost everything right this time around, but a lone point of major discrepancy remain when Cyan mange to upset Zest in garbage time to take a 1-1 at -22 point.
Changes There was fairly little change major changes as the SCBoy crew still refused to bump the stats of the GP crew, even lifting 3 points out of Ryung hexagon.
Biggest winner: Bunny +3 points (+3 condition) Biggest loser: Zest -5 points (-1 micro, -1 macro, -2 condition)
The free-fall of GSL champion Cure continued, for the third week in a row he lost some points, two more to be exact, making it 8 since his victory over Zest.
