We’re getting ever closer to December and we’re working at a feverish pace behind the scenes to make sure that TSL6 is as great as it can possibly be. And there’s some key information we still haven’t shared with the community, namely the number of EPT points we’ve been allotted, what the final prize pool will be, and who we’ve chosen to invite to this event.
Invitees Other than increasing the amount of invites for TSL6, we didn’t change much in terms of the process of inviting players. We, of course, had a chat with ESL about how to do it in a fair way as we definitely don’t want it to seem like we’re playing favorites here. Together we agreed that the best way to invite players was to do what we did last year: use EPT points and a 50/50 split between Korea and the rest of the world. Since we needed to get the invites out the door in time, in case anyone declined, we pulled the EPT points given out from finished tournaments on the 2nd of November and used that as a basis. And we’re elated to announce that these will be the invited players for TSL6:
Prize pool TSL5 was one of the biggest 3rd party events of 2020. That also means that we had to match the prize pool for TSL6. So we talked to our wonderful partners for the event, and they agreed. That’s why we’re happy to announce that we’ve secured $30,000, again, for the TSL6 prize pool. And for those of you wondering about how that breaks down, here’s a summary:
Prize Pool
1st
$6,000
2nd
$4,000
3rd
$3,000
4th
$2,000
5th - 6th
$1,500
7th - 8th
$1,200
9th - 12th
$900
13th - 16th
$600
17th - 32nd
$225
Those with a keen eye will have noticed that the percentages, compared to TSL5, are a bit lower for the top tier and higher for the mid to low finishers. That’s simply because we want to spread the love a bit more evenly. We still think the winner will be very happy with his, or her, share.
EPT Points Getting EPT points for TSL6 is, to us, as important as securing a big prize pool. We want to be a major event on the StarCraft 2 calendar and without EPT points that’s not going to happen. We had a chat with ESL and they were happy to hand out some points to our players. It’s not free points, though. Players will still have to survive the first round of the tournament if they want a gift from ESL under the tree. Here’s a breakdown of the point allotment for TSL6.

The info about the qualifiers for TSL6 has been posted in it's own thread. You can find that thread here.
The list of invited players is amazing as usual. Though I would have preferred if you had gone by GSL S3 / DH Winter Results instead of the overall Standings.
Stats and Armani have been delivering great games in Korea and it would have been great to see those results be rewarded with a seed. But overall it's of course still a fair way to distribute the seeds and I wish all players best of luck!
Using EPT points for invites is very strange given how each region has their own events and amounts of points allocated. In a system like that, is the amount of points that Special has relative to Astrea/Heromarine/TIME at all meaningful? Not really.
Not a fan that TSL and Asus ROG are both using it for invites.

Special has more points than heromarine, another advantage of him playing Latam and qualifying for the season finals over and over again. Hoopefully next year it goes back to normal

ESL forces that mode for the events to get EPT pts
Interesting that TY accepted TSL but declined Asus ROG. Both have the same 1st place price, but Asus is way WAY more top heavy. That either means, he isn t very confident or that he has some non sc2 commitments for Asus Rog. Also I absolutly hatte step price Pool distributions, especially when people, Who qualified for the tournament Don t get paid, so good Job TL this looks realy realy good

ASUS ROG partially overlaps with the BW tournament TY has been practicing for (date wise anyway I'm not 100% sure time wise), TSL doesn't.

Hmm... but all three are playing in the qualifiers?
(And for some reason, Inno forfeited after going down 0-1 vs Creator in Qualifier 1 and not playing in Qualifier 2 - so he's out entirely?)

They all scored some points since then (November 2nd) , but I dont think that makes that much difference. Maybe they wanted some money after all?
Appearently the seeding is meantto be done by Global Points. It still doesn t make sense, as that should mean, Inno is invited instead of TY. TL,DR: there was probably a mistake made in the seeding and invitation process or a Buch of Players forfeit their invites

Why Inno over TY? TY has shitload of points because he won Code S1 and 3, wtf? Like you wanna ignore the Korean points in the KOREAN INVITES?

Because they said, that seeding is done via Global points only. That would also explain, why Zest gets invited over Stats. Obviously it would 100% male sense to use the normal standing for Korea anyways. BUT neither method would yield the invited players: Kr + Global points: 1 TY 2962 2 Rogue 2660 3 Maru 2260 4 Stats 2045 (7) Zest 1715
Global points only: 1 Rogue 1455 2 Maru 1135 3 Zest 1035 4 Inno 955 (8) TY 622
I don't see anything saying the invites were done by just Global points though. The non-Korean side of that adds up as well, Reynor, Serral, Clem and Special have the most points if you throw all foreigners into one interregional standing. But that doesn't really explain Zest as long as nobody forfeited their spots, then later decided to play anyway.
Also the points you're using are wrong because the cut-off date for invites was November 2. But I'm pretty sure that that doesn't push Zest up 4 places either.

Yeah, someone else just told me that as well. But as you said, ASUS ROG didn t change anything in either standing.
What a bracket ey, shame so many good players will drop out with no loser bracket protecting them in R1. But as last time with Tsl, should see a lot of surpises happen
The tournament is super stacked, it's a GSL ro16 without Inno(and maybe sOs) plus the best foreign players(with the notable absence of TIME, Scarlett and MaNa).
The loser bracket starting after ro32, however, turns great matchups into terrible ones: Byun vs Clem and Neeb vs Showtime especially, imho.
On December 05 2020 04:38 Elentos wrote: It's a legitimate question whether the GSL champion will survive the opening round. If he does he's probably going to the loser bracket right after.
I m confident in Max He has plenty of Material to prepare thanks to Hurricane and TY didn t look to hot there..

The BW tournament he was playing in ended yesterday so he could be back to playing more SC2 at this point but definitely not like a GSL title is on the line. And really he's not gonna look into MaxPax's style which will make it much harder when he's already not in shape.

Yeah, we're really looking to make an impact with these point totals
(thanks for pointing it out, fixed now)
do invitees get 225 points for "qualifying" ?
225 is prize money, not EPT points. Would be hilarious though if the 8 invited players got 225 points and the tournament champion only 250.

Yeah that worked out really bad. Also went unfortunately for many people still fighting for a Katowice spot (e. g. Byun or Lambo).
