"Someone you look up to and respect is hurting people" That is kind of hard to process. Not as hard as being a victim, but I am definitely watching with beady eyes. I know this .... abusers unpunished don't change. Even punished ones rarely walk the road to perdition. I'll reiterate. If you are hurting people, you are unsafe. Everything you love, everyone who loves you - can be taken in a Thanos snap. Just a reminder for anyone living in California, there is no statue of limitations on sexual abuse-assault in our state, 30 years or 30 minutes, you have criminal and civil rights here and the largest pro-bono free legal support network in the world. Be heard, Get justice, Burn monsters. | ||

 In a way it is a little easier to hate esports personalities, especially casters, since their work is pretty much inseparable from their personality. I think you underestimate how difficult it would be as a young woman in this industry to come out and accuse someone who has more clout in an industry they want into. It’s a delicate balancing act, I want women to be able to come forward with concerns in this area, equally I don’t want guys to be lynched on Twitter either. I do think we’re moving in the right direction societally, really what is needed is an environment that women can come out around the times alleged events occurred, as proof or a lack thereof will be more apparent. | ||

We don't have to witch hunt individuals to collectively understand better the obstacles men and women are running into during their time with SC2 and eSports. I think the best thing we can do is 1. Encourage people to speak up to those around them as soon as possible for help or mediation of a situation that makes them uncomfortable and 2. Do everything in our power to help others out of these situations. I hope that those of us in important positions can work harder to make themselves accessible for assistance when others require it. I know I am not a famous person, but if anyone reads this and needs someone to talk to on a personal level please PM me. I hope others will follow my initiative too. | ||

When actions are taken against these people, then is the time to decide for yourself if you think they are just or not. Whether people are credible or not. IF Rapid or any of these other people have done things ... then when the damn bursts, we will most likely hear stories from more then one person. People who do this stuff, rarely ever do it once. Right now, humanity demands reading the stories caring if someone is hurting people. Nobody is required to believe anyone. Not an attack but ask yourself this, How many people would it take to change your mind about someone? This is a private answer, but you need to have a gauge. Do you need video proof, chat, 100 people, voice proof, a confession, a witness..... it is important to have a gauge for what proof would look like to you. | ||

Sad to hear specific stories, but they are clearly necessary for some, as despite them many still question the validity/sincerity of what can only be the tip of a much larger iceberg surfacing all over the US and world. I don't think it's news to anyone on TL that sexism and racism (and the harm/abuse that comes with it) is rampant in gaming and beyond, especially in the US. My thought on all this coming to the surface for many people is that individuals don't commit these acts in isolation but as part of a community (or several) and imo it's a community's responsibility to address not only various individuals behavior but the larger cultural and systemic issues that both allow it to happen and for the various actors and enablers to survive/thrive, often at their victims expense. Making it about the drama of accountability and a redemption arc (rather than the substance of it) based on individuals (even if they specifically are why this hits home for you) neglects the underlying issues which perpetuate the situation which produces the reprehensible individual behavior in the first place imo. | ||
