Hey TL.net crew! I'm a caster and (bald) GSL fan who lives in Seoul, and I want nothing more than to bring you the action live from the GSL Season 3 qualifiers in June. I've been talking to the executives at AfreecaTV here in Seoul. They have told me that if we want to see the GSL qualifiers streamed live, it would first require Blizzard's approval.
Here's the bad news: Blizzard is a black hole where esports information goes to die. I've emailed them several times about events and support and have never heard a peep from anyone. However, I think with enough community support, we can help turn the tide and I can get the qualifiers brought to GSL lovers worldwide.
So: If you read this post and want to see the GSL qualifiers casted live, here's what might help:
1) I tweeted about it. Blizz loves tweets. Maybe they'll respond to a popular tweet? You can tweet your own support for this idea to @esportsstarcraft.
2) Comment here on the TL.net thread. Would you watch the GSL qualifiers live? Of course you would! Tell Blizz this is something you'd support.
3) There's a reddit thread too. r/Starcraft is a pretty big community, so any love we can show there would be great!
Any help y'all can give would be great. I don't want to get paid for this. I don't want to set up a Patreon or any nonsense like that. I just want to bring the GSL action to the fans because I enjoy this game so much. There's no reason not to make it happen, and I appreciate any support you can offer!

Even noregret's phone IRL stream for the qualifiers last year was very much appreciated by viewers. It'll be too cool if we can see casters providing a little bit of coverage and love for the qualifiers!
Yes yes yes, triple yes, you advance!
But for real, I want to see this
If you haven't already done so, I would encourage you to get in touch with prominent community figures about this, for multiple reasons:
- it's possible they have already tried something like this (there are lots of community streams already that I expect to be interested in GSL qualifiers as well), so maybe they can give you some insight into what they did and where they got stuck
- some (like Artosis or Incontrol) may have contacts within Blizzard to help you get past the being noticed problem
- they can help you promote and spread the word about your plans
- if you are successful, you should probably coordinate with other community streams anyways. Personally I would prefer if GSL qualifiers are streamed on an existing channel because it would prevent community resources from further fracturing, plus it's much easier to notice if GSL qualifiers show up on e.g. Basetrade.
I'd start with contacting Basetrade and the Pylon Show to cover the most important community stream and the main outlet for community news, respectively. Artosis and Incontrol have expressed both frustration with how Blizzard facilitates and advertises esports and a desire to promote new community projects so I'm sure this would help you in some way.

Yes, yes and yes.
It's more then time to have actual coverage of GSL qualifier, cell phone coverage was already an highlight, actual casting would be great.
Did you go to Tastosis with this? They may have a more direct line to whoever is responsible
That would be great. The one time NoRegret did a real stream of the qualifiers the viewership was quite good and even the potato quality over the shoulder cellphone streams that various people have set up over the years have been quite interesting.

If you could make this happen it would be amazing, been too long since the qualifiers got proper coverage!
Of course we want. It's a good way to watch new blood who try to qualify. It's beneficial for the kr scene I suppose
Yes for sure. It literally has zero risk of doing any harm to the scene and it will definitely attract some viewers, especially amongst the hardcore ones.
Kr qualifiers are TLs life blood, of course we would love it lol!

Being the bold legend of GSL wasn't enough for you! <3

GIMME MORE SC2. I'll watch this thing for sure!

This. Try to contact some known people in the english-speaking community and see if they can give you any help or if they are interested on it.
Good luck!

Help us Blizzard, you're our only hope.

Absolutely, it’s a crying shame it’s barely ever been done.
It’s a great time for it too with some fan favourites like MC and DRG and Taeja involved too
Yeah I reiterate contacting Artosis and community figures that might help cut through to Blizzard. I cannot see Artosis or NoTegret at least not trying to help out in this regard, even if it’s ultimately successful
Too many matches going on at once. It is a bit hard to broadcast all of them. I would like the see the results updating on real time though. It is difficult to follow when one playing is already playing the next match and you don't even the result from previous match.
Yes, this would be awesome. Anything is appreciated!
This thread should become the biggest of 'em all in order to demonstrate that the TL- and the SC2-community - all differences aside - is indeed united in passion for the greatest esport of all time.

Definite yes, it always struck me as weird that they weren't streamed before

IS WATER WET?????? YESSSSSSS

It would be great, not sure I will have time to watch them when they are airing but if I'm free then yes!
Yes, these need to be casted for sure. GET ON IT!

Hell yeah. Lets get this going guys!

I have been in contact with some of the folks on the local scene, but the foreign SC2 community here in Seoul can be quite insular. It's hard to get people to respond to you! I have a connection with the Afreeca team, and they have informed me that Blizz has to say yes first. If anyone in the scene wanted to get back to me, that would be great, but as of yet, it has not been happening.
If I am able to hear something from Blizz, I will definitely work closely with the other community members here to make sure everyone feels appreciated, included, and comfortable with the process. There are lots of moving parts happening all at the same time, but Blizzard is the first team that has to say "yes" to get this project off the ground.

Blizzard is the worst, why does anything need approval from them? It's like asking if we can play baseball in the park on certain days and having to wait for some municipal enforcement person make a decision.

Historically it's been difficult for me to get in touch with SC2 personalities and casters. I think they are all just very busy guys, and some no-name idiot writing them with an idea is not something they have the time or energy to respond to. Hopefully we can establish a base of interest and credibility through these social media actions, which would prompt a response from the appropriate parties!
Although, Artosis, if you're watching, can I buy you a beer and talk about this?
Hell yes I would! Been wanting to be able to watch GSL qualifiers for many seasons now.
Carry a sign during GSL asking if you can cast the qualifiers for free

hahahaha. I never want my GSL trips to be about me - always about making the live shows better for the viewers and players. This would definitely distract from the broadcast in a bad way!
Would be awesome to see this!
I am interested in watching this, mainly because I am curious about some players who often tried to qualify in past years but never did. I watched some of the footage by NoRegreT from previous qualifiers and it was great.
Would definitely watch this! Kudos for your effort, I hope you succeed in getting Blizzard’s attention.
Would definitely watch it. The qualifiers have so many matches between top players these days, let's have it!
of course ... and i think it'd be nice exposure for some of up and coming players or players who are just under A-tier who never get their games broadcasted

Absolutely yes. It always makes me feel sad when I know there are GSL qualy going on yet there is no way to watch it. And man, you will be a hero if it works out, thanks for your efforts.

I remember Khaldor used to film some stuff at these and we got to see them uploaded later, even that would be kinda cool. Recaps of the day/some over the shoulder stuff etc, really nice to have some kind of record.
yes please, would love to see the GSL qualifiers, entirely new blood bath in and of itself
I mean, is anyone gonna say no?
Nice trick. Not going to fall for that. Hah
If you are unable to set up a live cast, then a tl thread for the games would be nice. The resulting score doesn't say everything. Zest's sweep of Maru in code A a few years ago was one of the most intense series I've seen. One game, I think it was the final game, Zest ran out of gas but had 25 warpgates and 4000 minerals in the bank. After some nuking and kiting, Maru managed to destroy the golden armada but had to defend his bases vs one stalker and mass zealots. That was amazing to watch. Score was 3-0, Maru's code S qualification streak was over.

That would be great. That is at the low end of my ambitions this time around - just geting in for a TL thread or live twitter updates or something would be enough for the first time. There are a few wheels turning right now. I'll do my best to keep everyone in the loop.

yes please! So many great games go missed - would be awesome if you could bring these to the western world! - not sure why it would need blizzards approval but hey what do i know.

Might I suggest asking via the Q&A segment of The Pylon Show? It seems like that would be the perfect place to raise such a question. I believe you have to pay to ask priority questions, so I'd be willing to chip in or do it myself depending on if you wanted to try this option.

yes, please give an update on how this goes btw
