Regardless of the situation, we will still action upon "dead game" comments. As this is a sensitive issue for SC2 fans, please do not come into this thread and talk about SC2 players switching over to BW. This thread is also not about bashing Blizzard, David Kim, or the WCS system. |

Well, I do believe this is the end of me following SC2.
Had some great times between 2010 and 2016.

this guy said it all
its hard to say why but sc2 is just not as watchable as BW, even though its newer and shinier
i for one think the WoL before BL/fest era was the best sc2 ever had, not because of viewership, but the best games happened then. i dont think HotS did anything for the game, which should be a huge warning sign. LotV tried some new things, but again there a major rework is coming soon.
there is something about BW that is timeless, you can get hour long positional chess games and 15 min super scrappy games. for some reason sc2 lacks the magic. you think koreans are just stupid or stubborn to switch? no way, if sc2 was better than sc1, which it should be, then they would have all switched 5 years ago.

There is no reason to believe Blizzard will make SC3. I hope to be very wrong though.

The apologists already came up with the reason for the switch never happening: nostalgia!!!

2010 or 2013 would have been a different gaming world if SCBW had not been released in 98^^

I haven't posted anything in about two years or so, lost interest in the game mainly, favourite players retired or declined, but I still felt like I was part of a community, that I could come back and enjoy the new storylines and the tournaments. This though feels like one of those moments when you acknowledge that something big is happening and things are never going to be the same again. I was not a progleague guy. I always liked gsl and the foreign scene more, but undeniably the single most important structure for the korean scene is just gone. It feels like the game, in this current state, with these premises, won't really recover. And it's such a shame. I don't even play sc2 anymore, and yet now it comes to my mind that I had fun doing it - I had so much fun following the streamers, learning the games from Huskystarcraft first, Day9 then, cheering for my favourites and commenting the games here on teamliquid. Because in the end, it was a matter of having fun and having a nice time much more than it was about actually liking the experience of the ladder match, even though this could arguably be the cause of its downfall. It was fun, it was a lot of laughters, and though I can understand the loss of interest in the game, I still believe that the scene deserved more, and maybe, if we are lucky, better times will come. Sorry for the quality of the post, my phone keeps trying to select stuff and mess with me

What's this about? herO retired?

At least there are countless vods online I can watch over and over again. The memories will never be forgotten.

While much has been said on the interest from the general public and sponsors I think its important to point out that the peak of korean sc2 and even the game in general happened during the wild west of streaming and more than anything this was the crucial bottleneck preventing the scene from becoming as big as it could've been, even if the game was released probably just 1 year later it would've been a much different story. People forget anything above 360p was behind a paywall, its incomparable with now that stream quality is not even a topic of discussion. THIS^, this^ and once more, this^.
Oh welp, goodbye ProLeague, good bye Korean SC2. We will maybe see us again when WC4 is released.

I'd assume so, the translation (according to google) is "This also" so contextually it makes sense that this bad news is the "also" to Proleague disappearing

Completely understandable. This is my thought as well. I don't understand watching tournaments of things that don't choose the best of the best.
Its why i can't get in to college sports. Who care who wins this NCAA championship, if that team would get their teeth kicked in by the 76ers.
But oddly i suppose, the foreign scene might actually be able to catch up and become the best in the world.

Why the hell would I watch College Football when even the Jaguars would curb stomp the best college teams?
