Macro Maps
Annihilation Station | Meavis
Changelog:
Fixed some doodads that jumped out of cliffs.
Fixed some pipelines that misaligned and had gaps between them.
Fixed some areas that had small chunks of the wrong textures for that area.
Fixed a small piece of cliff from asteroid to space station.
Replaced a large doodad cluster with slightly fewer less complicated doodads.
Reduced the amount of pipelines in some areas for performance reasons.
Fixed some doodads lacking pathing blockers under them.
Northern pathway widened and connected to middle pathway.
Middle pathway made completely highground.
Towers moved further to the north/south ends of the map.
Swapped the gold third and blue natural.
Bridge between naturals and main opened up. This bridge can be walled using a 2x2 unit or structure. It can be opened up for midgame ease in pathing.
Bottom half revamped. It is now more open and ends on a central gold base similarly to Ulrena. It was also cut by about 10 cells, making the map 148x138.
Added decoration to the vertical sides and curtains around the map.
Anti-liberator rocks added behind the main and gold natural.
Removed every doodad in the main outside of the wooden tarmacs, due to a graphical bug, and fixed some doodads in the natural, northern, and corner bases that caused pathing/graphical issues.
Added a reaper path.
Added LoS blockers to the rock tower ramp in the natural.
Fixed pathing errors and improved building placements in the southern and northern areas of the map. The grey border in the south is now unpathable.
Added a set of rock towers leading into the center.
Increased size of both ramps at the 12 and 3 o'clock bases.
Slightly widened chokes leading into the 8 o'clock base.
Fixed some of the gold mineral fields not being mineable.
Removed all LoS blockers from the bridges and changed the larger ones into two smaller ones.
Changed rocks in the center.
Revamped the low ground textures and altered the cliff textures.
Added some varied doodads to display unpathable areas better.
In the last few weeks, mappers, Blizzard, TL staff, casters, and players have done their steps to ensure we have the best maps possible for next season. It's now the community's turn. While Blizzard has the final say on which maps go on the ladder, this is the time to send Blizzard a message on which maps you want to be in the pool next season.
And let's not forget; not only are the maps competing for ladder consideration, but the top five maps will be awarded with cash prizes - all provided by Blizzard.
First - $1,000 Second - $500 Third - $250 Fourth - $150 Fifth - $100
Voting
As you may have noticed, this year's TLMC has more than double the number of finalists compared to previous TLMCs. This fact along with some mapper feedback have pushed us to allow you to vote for five maps instead of one. Please note that your vote must contain exactly five maps or it will not count. Additionally, you must comment in this thread for your vote to count. A simple "voted" will do. Of course, we encourage you to post which maps you voted for and to have a discussion about which maps you like best as well!
Another note is that you are free to vote for any maps you'd like regardless of category. For example, you can vote for four Rush maps and one Gold map if that is your cup of tea.
You have until Friday, Jun 10 3:59am GMT (GMT+00:00) to cast your votes for your favorite TLMC maps, after which the winners will be announced.
Oh nice the voting system is finally not FPTP anymore. Still not sure who I'm voting for--I'll have to look at the changes made carefully.
edit:
I already posted my opinion of the maps after seeing the games (here), and they haven't changed much from watching more of the games save that I like Apotheosis a little less due to how little early game options there are, and Flame Juggler which was a question mark for me before turned out to be pretty average, not really compelling enough to be a winner in my eyes.
Here's how I feel about the changes:
GALACTIC PROCESS- Changes are nice and moderately improve the map. The hallways still won't be used.
KORHAL KILLZONE- This map is the most improved in my mind, which is impressive considering how minimal the changes were. The rock towers make taking a third or fourth that little bit safer, which will increase the breadth of different games played on the map while conserving it's "rush" map status.
NAMASTE- Namaste has also improved quite a bit, the new bottom of the map being much better (though I'm still doubtful as to how often it'll be taken anyhow). The changes to the top of the map reduce the amount of abuse possible (especially by siege tanks) quite a bit. I'm still not a huge fan of the map, but the changes have certainly been for the better.
PALADINO TERMINAL- Fairly small changes that solved a few of the map's problems. Still not sold on the overrall concept though.
SHIVA- The changes make the other third slightly more viable, but didn't go far enough. All the problems I had with the map are still there.
DASAN STATION- The changes make the early game slightly more manageable at the cost of making the mid-game much worse. The map was already way too restrictive, and the map flow was already way too awkward and this change only made it worse. Until the golds are mined out opening another path the map is a nightmare to navigate. Still by far my least favourite map in the contest.
NEW GETTYSBURG- Slight improvement overall. The air blockers are still going to trap units incredibly often.
CALDEUM PLATEAU- This Caldeum Plateau is almost an entirely new map. The gold is a lot more necessary to take now which makes it fit the category better, but there's only so much that can be fixed when the core concept is weak.
FLAME JUGGLER- I still have not much of an opinion about this map.
GOOJIRA GREENHOUSE- The fact that you can now take the gold makes the pocket natural makes it so much better, and the changes to the back of it are great. I preferred the original position of the ramp from the main to the pocket, since this new ramp makes defending 4 bases too easy, and it was already pretty easy in the first place. The changes to the middle of the map do make it less choky which is good, but it also makes the middle not as interesting. It increases the problem of people just sticking to their corner of the map, and reduces the incentive to take position in the middle. Mixed feelings overrall about these changes.
Voted. The first 3 or 4 were easy to pick out, but rounding out the list took me some time.
On a perhaps more critical note, I find it weird how massively different Avex's maps became through iteration. For just about every map, you have to mouse back and forth to find all the changes, but all 3 of Avex's maps look entirely different, spotting the difference is about as difficult as getting smacked upside the head. When the changes are that significant, I have to question how strong the map really was in the first place.
In other news, what is the reason for the posting-in-thread requirement? It is just general anti-botting security, or is there some more specific reason?
Dasan because new version looks and plays amazing New Gettysberg because its New Gettysberg Namaste because new version is actually ok Shiva because it was good Fifth is not disclosed because I felt all other maps were not my style
I posted this in the other thread, but might as well post it here to show off Korhal Killzone a bit. Best of luck to all! =)

Valoril, the rise and fall...and rise again?
Decades ago, Valoril, a suburb of Augustgrad, the Capital City of Korhal was known as the one of the most peaceful places to visit. Terran all over the galaxy would vacation in this small city for relaxation, peace & tranquility. Wars waged on but the people of Valoril carried on life without any fear. All your problems, your anger, your worries, they seemed to fade away into non existence.
__________
Soon though, Augustgrad fell to the zerg, and with that, so did Valoril. The care-free lifestyle of those who lived and visited Valoril took a turn for the worse. Chaos took to the streets, no longer was there peace, but fear and destruction.
__________
Nobody saw it coming. How quickly a city of such peace can turn against each other. The loot, the torture, the killing. The city was abandoned. It was now just another afterthought to the wars waging through out the galaxy...
__________
Looking back at it all...It's crazy. How beautiful the city was. How peaceful it was. How it made all your problems go away.
__________
Now, take a deep breath and erase those memories you had in your head. That peace, that happiness, that tranquility...ignore it...
__________
Today we not only fight for glory, for honor, for fame, but we fight to reclaim that state of tranquility. Valoril will once again become the city where all our fears can fade away! Our problems disappear! Our dreams come true! Hold your arms up high my brethren, because today, the dominion takes back what was stolen from us!
__________
Today, blood will be shed!
Today, lives will be lost!
But most importantly...
Today, VALORIL REVIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
__________
__________
And so the story is told...will the zerg keep control of their conquered lands? Will a new player, in the protoss replace the zerg and rule these tranquil lands? Or will the Dominion, finally reclaim their Valoril? Whatever happens next...could be the final battle...in this...
Thanks to Basetrade TV for casting... Utilael for his awesome reddit post & youtube links... Neeb, MaSa, MaNa, Bunny, uThermal, Beastyqt, Nerchio & Lillekanin for playing my map... and all you die hard starcraft 2 fans for supporting us all!

Caldeums weakness as pointed out by many was that it had too many ideas that clashed. I simplified that.
Namaste's weakness was that the north was great (a little too chokey) and the bottom was absolutely useless. All of my changes represent the exact requests of community members, pro players, judges and casters.
Gojira has very minor changes, so I assume you don't mean that one.
I find it borderline disqualifying how Namaste and Caldeum Plateau are only similar in name to their old version. If you can add and remove expansions or even a whole half of a map, what is the point of the finalist selection process? At this point, just nominate your favorite map makers already, let them show you their recent rough ideas and assign them the job.
You can not have it both ways. Judge the maps and let the winners change everything about these maps. Either the map maker has a clear concept of his work, that he can be judged on. Or he is able to replace the core erratically, which is kind of proof that the first version did not have a real concept to begin with...

The literal point of the iteration phase is to make changes to the maps according to feedback. I got alot of feedback that did nothing but make the map better. If you want I can send you the old, worse Namaste, and have that get to ladder instead? No, you should be given the best version possible. Else there is absolutely no purpose to having an iteration phase except for some bug fixes, which would happen on the way to Blizzard anyway.
If there was an iteration phase for the Blizzard submission, you'd have Invader II, a much better map, than the one now.

The thing is, once you allow the finalist to drastically change their maps in order "to get the best possible ladder map", you undermine the whole contest! See, it might be hard to accept, but a contest is different to a contract work. Ultimately they aim for different outcomes! The contest wants to provide equal opportunity, a fair and open process and sustained interest in the contest itself. The selection of maps for ladder is only a byproduct of the contest! It is not even a question, the selection process does not need to be fair or open in any way.
I know you are personally involved and all, but in the interest of fairness, they should have told you "Sorry, but changing 90% of your map is unacceptable. You will have to enter the 2.0 version in the next competition. But maybe you are lucky and Blizzard selects your old version anyway."

I don't understand your direction. How can the intentions of the contest, undermine itself? And how do you specify the "core" of the map, it's super subjective. There is equal opportunity amongst all mappers to make drastic or little changes. I was forunate to have three maps in the finals, and for those who follow me often, know that I am a fan of making drastic changes to benefit gameplay or balance. Originally I didn't even make drastic changes to Namaste, these changes came from the coordination of other mapmakers (who I'll leave unnamed until after the process is over), professional players and feedback from many different parts of the community. All these changes were positive. Was Namaste a bad map originally? No, not really. Just needed fixes. And, if you have mapped before, you would know that sometimes you just cant make a simple change without completely breaking everything. So you make changes elsewhere to fix that break, then another, and another, etc. You should always be striving to make the best out of your map, no matter what. It's why I continued to work on Invader and poke Blizzard to try it out. I would personally rather not have Namaste 1.0 go through, have people extremely frustrated at Blizzard, Me, and TeamLiquid for not allowing me to have an updated or better version. I really fail to see how this is negative or hurts the integrity of the contest.

Getting the best maps possible on ladder is the goal, and if anything this map-making contest is the byproduct. Overhauling a map carries its own penalties namely making the gathered data less relevant, potentially adding new imbalances, etc. If a mapmaker deems that the map has problems that make taking the risk to overhaul it necessary he/she should by all means go ahead.

Let's leave it at that. This discussion between us two obviously leads nowhere and will not change anything anyway.

I think his point with "hurting the integrity of the contest" is that your maps got chosen as finalists and AFTER it was safe they are finalists you did those big changes to it with the knowledge you can do whatever you want because it will be in the finalist list anyway and basically changing your map so much that the reason it got selected as a finalist may not be apparent in the new version anymore. I'd agree with him if you just made changes whatever you feel like but considering you made those changes based on the feedback you got I think it's okay. I have to say though that I preferred the old version of Caldeum plateau
Annihilation Station Just an overall great standard map and I think we will definitely want one (or more!) of these in the next ladder season. We've gone with very crazy maps recently and I think having one map, that doesn't bring much crazyiness to the map pool would be well received.
Korhal Killzone It's my map, I love it, I think it can create very interesting games. Short rush distance but bases are easy enough to hold. Plenty of places to harass with air/drops. Has a very Neo Planet S feel to it where your army moves around the outside of the map but you can quickly switch sides by going through the middle (and maybe harassing that middle base in the process!) I believe all styles can be played on this map from 1-2 base all-ins to 4 or 5 base end games, from bio to mech, from ling/bling to swarm host. I could go on and on and on why I think you should vote for my map but I'll stop there =)
Dasan Station: Overall, it'd be scary to have on ladder, but I think for part of this map tournament it did a great job. It's a very unique layout & design and I think it can keep producing very fun, interesting, low econ games. Eventually though I fear certain strats will be found that are completely broken.
Flame Juggler: In base natural and close by regular 3rd if you want to play standard, otherwise take the aggressive gold and try your best to hold it from harass. Both top and bottom sides of the map will be used depending on how you want to play the game out. (Also a main reason why I'm picking this over Shiva)
Gojira Greenhouse: The changes you did on this map are great. I posted in the original thread what I disliked about it and you changed a good chunk of those =P I worry that air harass (libs/oracles/drops) might be still a bit too strong since pretty much every mineral line is very tucked up against the edges. Either way, great changes and I think this would map would produce some very interesting games.

nah
beastyqt vs Lillekanin was a pretty decent mech game on Korhal Killzone.
Regarding Avex's maps, I'm kind of surprised such big overhauls were even allowed. But that's something for another day I think. These kind of issues are not something that can be fixed after the fact, but more of something to correct or address in future iterations of the TLMC.
Will surely be voting for macro maps, people skipping on them because "they are sure to make it anyway" is way too risky
Voted! My picks were Annihilation Station, Aphoteosis, Galactic Process (3 solid macro maps to make a good foundation), Korhal Killzone (the changes made it so much better and wanted at least one rushy map) and Aiur Plateau (this one is just bonkers, so it probably won't make it).
HM to New Gettysburg, which was my only real consideration that I could not vote for. It should make it anyway, big fan favorite for sure :D
I would've voted for New Gettysburg, if bridges to the two islands in the middle had been added, but like this I don't want to play on this map vs Terran.
I went with Apotheosis, Frozen Zone, Galactic Process, Namaste and Shiva.
Weird, even tho I like a lot of these maps I actually didn't feel very strongly about any of them unlike some past TLMCs. Didn't even vote for the weirdest maps we had this time.
Voted. Annihilation Station and Shiva were nobrainers for me, really really good maps. Then for last 3 i went for big macro Apotheosis, standard Cloud Kingdom like Galactic Process and short and straight-forward Korhal Killzone.

Yeah, New Gettysburg is already confirmed I think. Blizzard always has the last word, but the result of the vote might still influence them for the rest of the maps. Although they won't put in 3 macro maps, if the top 3 are all macro maps I guess.

Believe just the basetradetv tournament was it. I do know Monk has all the maps uploaded so you can grab a friend or two and play on whichever map you'd like.

Exactly the same maps as me :O Good choice.
Thx! But no surprise here, really - we both chosen Jin Air as a flair so our choices are always superior as our team is

i get the point and normally i'd sort of agree with you, but in this case i think the goal of getting the best possible ladder maps outweighs the goal of "fairly" rewarding all of the finalists. say that old version of namaste actually got selected for ladder, then we'd be stuck with a shitty map for at least a full season, but now we'll have a decent map in its current iteration.
might suck for some finalists to potentially lose out on the prize pool because of it, but personally i'd forgo the money in favor of getting what i think is an objectively better map on ladder, and i think a lot of other mapmakers would agree. (not saying i think namaste is better than my entry, but just hypothetically lol)
Voted as if it was for ladder, not just prizes. Altough i don't particularily have a favorite amongst the maps, but i want to see how Plateau turns out. (+ a bunch of seemingly strong maps)

which plateau?
Probably worth saying at this point that Shakuras Plateau should have been the last map ever to have plateau in its name. It doesn't even make a good name, it's boring.

I picked Apotheosis, Galactic Process, and Korhal Killzone for being solid standard-ish maps with an interesting twist. I picked Paladino Terminal and Aiur Plateau for exploring untested concepts - I think successfully.
Apotheosis: It might be too long, but the layout is too cool to pass up.
Galactic Process: This is probably the most ladder-ready map in the contest.
Korhal Killzone: If it's not too small, it will be sweet. Korhal Killzone has the best aesthetics this TLMC.
Shiva: The first three bases are uninspiring, but the middle is cool.
New Gettysburg: I don't think the air blockers will work out, but even without them, New Gettysburg is strictly better than other maps with similar concepts.
I had a hard time picking 5 but in the end I went for APOTHEOSIS, GALACTIC PROCESS, SHIVA, DASAN STATION and CALDEUM PLATEAU. APOTHEOSIS, SHIVA and CALDEUM look especially cool so I'm hoping they do well in the voting.
Voting done! Really liking the ideas people are trying this time around, seems like maps are moving away from HotS-like and gonna become more suitable for Legacy. Also love the aesthetic for Namaste, i'm a sucker for pretty maps.

I've been thinking about it since a couple days ago but I didn't want to be "that guy". Surely several other people thought the same.
Well they have to post in this thread for their votes to count. And if they weren't signed up on TL and just know about this because they spend time on reddit, you can totally get a bunch of legit 1-posters.

which plateau?
Probably worth saying at this point that Shakuras Plateau should have been the last map ever to have plateau in its name. It doesn't even make a good name, it's boring.
