This is an interesting topic which I'm not too sure about. Curious to hear what people think about it.
Basically the Korean scene has a lot of drawn-out and on-going events. GSL, SSL, Proleague. These are naturally a treat to watch and I really think we see the epitome of Starcraft: preparation!
In contrast of that, in the non-Korean scene, we have a lot of cool events over the course of a few days. IEM, Dreamhack, Redbull, etc.
I can't see why the non-Korean format isn't adopted in Korea, at least once in a while. Imagine Dreamhack Seoul Open. Wouldn't it be neat to watch a tournament of that format in Korea? This would be, imo, an interesting contrast with the drawn-out, on-going events which Korea is known for.
I am guessing that in terms of television, it's better to have the drawn-out events? That is the type of exposure which Korean sponsors are looking for? Are those the reasons or is it actually something else?
Naturally, we could also have foreigners fly into Seoul as they might do for Taipei or something. In the case of a foreigner doing well on Korean soil, that would be amazing to the point of it being scandalous. Tasteless could cast so much Starcraft in one weekend without having to take the airplane which he hates so much.
Well, this is an interesting thought I had. I'm not quite sure of the reasons as to why we don't see that weekend format in Korea and I'm also interested in whether or not others would be interested in seeing that. I wonder if it would be profitable to run such an event, compared to say hosting a DH in Europe for instance.

I don't think there's much incentive for DreamHack specifically to organize a weekend event in Seoul. Dreamhack has always been a European-centric event (even Dreamhack Austin was pretty surprising).
As for having a weekend tournament of any sort in Korea, it could be interesting except I don't see who would organize it.

Make it a WCS circuit event to stir as much shit as possible

It's obviously because... because... OK you are right, I don't see a reason not to have a DH/IEM in Seoul. Except if the company doesn't want to travel that much maybe. I don't think that could be a valid excuse though. I doubt there wouldn't be as many spectators as anywhere in Europe, too.

They make events in Asia but exclude Korea.

I think IEM Seoul seems much more likely and I think we could see one. Carmac was in Korea on a business trip towards the end of last year. Not saying it means anything, but I think IEM Seoul could happen at some point. Maybe next season?
He met with people from Intel while in Korea .

but... but... if IEM/DH was to organize an event in Korea, they'd be kinda forced not to exclude Koreans. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of IEM/DH in the first place? Also it's a bit bad for organizers focused on foreign players to organize something so far from foreignland (plane tickets from, let's say, Denmark to Poland cost less than from Denmark to Korea, surprisingly).

Obviously it would have to be a WCS Korea or global event, or they might do a League only IEM in Korea (which would be a damn shame).

I imagine that Denmark to Korea is comparable to America to Poland.
I am also stipulating that what we're looking for is a weekend event in Seoul with the idea that we get to see all those Kespa players in a weekend-event type setting. This would more or less be a Korean event I suppose, with Korean sponsors and whatnot.
Basically I am questioning why Korea doesn't have weekend event formats: only the prolonged type. I discussed "Dreamhack Seoul" but I only talked about DH because they are very good at that format. It also has a nice ring to it. I could have said "IEM Seoul", I suppose.

Yeah, so basically it would be a foreign organization organizing a Korean tournament for Koreans. Doesn't sound like a good business decision to me. e : don't get me wrong, it would be awesome to have such an event. I just don't see it happening rationally.

Why though?
I understand there will be differences in how things are run: we can see that since Korean events don't use this format. I'm curious as to why; as of right now I can't see why not. That is my take on the matter and I'm curious to hear what others think.

Intel has divisions all over the world, I'm sure Intel Korea would love to see an IEM in Seoul. It makes more sense than IEM Taipei imo, just because of the amount of talent over there. They even had IEMs in South America, so I think IEM Korea isn't so weird. Business wise the market for Intel products is very big in Korea I guess, they are real tech freaks there .

I really hope something does happen. As far as I am concerned, Dreamhack and IEM might as well not exist at this point.
