Starting from this page on, I will be moderating more harshly toward any mention of MarineKing's name. This thread has NOTHING to do with MarineKing. Do not talk about MarineKing even if you are defending him. Just don't do it. Please no match-fixing accusations on MarineKing or any other player if it has not officially been confirmed.

BTW, here's the post referring to Life / Alive being voided. It was actually in a LR thread. Zero idea why this didn't make it into it's own thread:

Why now? Its happend in the past as well right?

What has that to do with this? Its your problem, i will continue to watch the FAIR players. Hopefully the community gets better without the crybabies around.

Seriously fuck yourself dude. You made an account like 2 days ago and have posted nothing but a gambling rumor that you made up and how shitty this community is. If you don't like this place or the emotions that we have for one of the faces of the game, leave.

You seem like a very nice chill layout person.

If you really read this tread then you already know that i made a account especially for this. Life was my favorite player, i lost my old account, not gonna exlpain it again all over.

So thats how you want it, if somebody thinks different then you, they must leave People like you make me laugh so hard.

I also dont know why people would stop playing sc2, why people say its a dead game if this is true, i hate that kind of mental thoughts. But you are free to think so short minded.

Even if sc2 have no more pro players no more tournaments, i would still play sc2. But you are proberly right and you are a big fan of sc2 right?

Proberly just a spectator and doesnt even play the game at all.

As if this somehow is any solace to some of us old guard. I have been watching and playing BW on and off for over a decade now. At the end of the day, if we want our game to be taken seriously, and to continue to thrive in a meaningful way, you have to be able to attract spectators.

Spectators keep the lights on. Spectators pay the bills. Without the spectators there are no televised matches, there is no money for websites like this one. Without them, there is no money for 'pro gamers'. So, sure, you can keep playing the game competitively. Nothing will ever kill SC2 just like nothing has yet killed competitive bowling, competitive archery, competitive contract bridge, competitive boxing, or competitive wrestling. But the whole notion of 'pro-gaming' depends on spectators watching, cheering, and supporting the players in one form or another.

If you are implying spectators are more important than player base, I gotta disagree. I don't watch any games I don't play.

There can be a game with a lot of players and no spectators, but there can't be a game with a lot of spectators and no players. E-sports evolve from players bases, not out of thin air. Maybe I just don't get it and there are people who spend hours watching games they never played. Seems far fetched to me, especially in e-sports. All my friends that stopped playing no longer watch either unless I tell them to tune into finals or something.

I don't think anyone has ever hinted at Inno matchfixing. The only reason he had attention drawn to him was because he had a match (vs Super) where Pinnacle voided bets. A number of other players did, too.

Yes, him and Soulkey were both involved in voided bets. MKP was famously involved in one too, but the KeSPa investigation didn't find anything. Of course LIfe was involved in one too...

I posted this in the other thread, but still worth a read: an article on 538 about the string of voided Tennis bets and match fixing allegations there last month:

http://fivethirtyeight.com/features/why-betting-data-alone-cant-identify-match-fixers-in-tennis/

Some of the reasons apply to SC2 as well, especially the part about inaccurate initial lines.

It also links to a story about the Davydenko case where I found it interesting that professional gamblers didn't know for sure the match was fixed, but strongly suspected it to the point that they were willing to bet at insanely unfavorable odds anyways (further skewing the odds of course).

If I recall correctly there are more than 10 players in total that have had those suspicious results with voided bets, B4 and Yoda were two from that list and some others are in addition to the ones already mentioned. I didn't know Life was one as well.

I remember counting 7, and no Life. I made a list once but can't find it

The list I remember was ( I want to make this clear: Not all in this list were accused but were involved in the matches with the voided bets)

MarineKing
SoulKey
Innovation
San
Yoda (Proven)
B4 (Proven)
Life (Arrested)
Dark
Super
Alive
Creator
ByuL
Flash (Was simply involved in a match with voided bets, the fixed match vs B4)

Byul was vs MK with MK suspect
Super was vs Inno with Inno suspect
San was vs Dark with San suspect
Soulkey was vs Creator with Soulkey suspect is what I remember. Damn where is that list

All those players and, aside from the Prime ones, none of these were interrogated/arrested like Life is.
One could assume that arresting a player is not the procedure unless a fairly substantial data is proven.

Feels like they are just digging out to find out more people involved in a (proven) scheme.

No disrespect but doesn't that make you a player still? Even if you don't actively play currently, if you played the game before around 1 year I'm assuming because it was released in 2010 if I remember correctly.
If you are talking about active players, there is no discussion about it majority of televised sports have way more viewers than active players, maybe with the exception of golf. However, if you consider how many of those viewers are viewers because they played the game when they were younger I think you will find more former/active players than viewers in most cases.

I'm really curious about how the whole thing take place, how and when was he approached, was his entourage involved, what was deal, was the pressure strong, was he just being "suicidal" about his career, was he fed up with the game and progaming in general, ...

I mean it can't have just gone Anakin style ("come to the dark side"/"No"/"I said come to the dark side!!!"/"oh, ok then")

On one hand I think he'd be crazy not to match fix. Playing sc2 is a thankless job for no money. He could have just been burnt out and wanted some guaranteed money. It's tough to kill yourself practicing for such a small chance to win a tournament. Plus someone else mentioned MC said that people threatened him to fix matches. If that is true, that would change things imo.

Are you guys stupid? Since when does SC2 rely on one person? Fine, Life committed a crime and is probably going to jail. How does that stop you from playing the game? Stop being babies and enjoy the game.

Edit: Let me tell you that crimes happen every day. That's not a reason we should quit A, B or C.

because there are literally no one that enjoys watching the game without playing.

this is a lot more specific than jsut a generic "crime". this scandal is taking away all confidence in the legitimacy of the games played. id rather these guys were rob a convenience store, than manipulate games.

ur not seriously downplaying this as some sort of minor mistake that these guys made are u?
Silly.

SC2 was always a game who's death was certain, it always had a shelf life. For multiple reasons: Its a game, so inherently it will lose popularity, its a niche genre and so it wont likely hold onto casual players, the non korean community has neither the infrastructure nor the suicidal work ethic of koreans, so long term they cant compete. Without local incentives and local players who are legitimately good, people become bored. Koreans have a horrible pay scale, and lower level players hardly get any money, this is a compounded problem when you consider the sacrifices made by these individuals because of koreas particular cultural and economic conditions. All of this means the scene is not only doomed to go into irreparable decline (and this is before blizzard started ruining the scene with WCS incompetence) it also means its certain that it will be heavily fixed in korea. Absolutely certain. Life didnt kill sc2. SC2 isnt dead yet, but it will die eventually, and it will die to a confluence of variables and people of which Life was an insignificant one person. You cant put on him--or any of the match fixers-- moral culpability for people losing their jobs, etc, as the scene declines into the future. You can only put on them the actual things they did, which was lie and take money.

But it was always going to happen. If life didnt take money, would sc2 really be in any different position? It would be an extremely marginal improvement at best; new players were still not going to come in, and those that did were still going to be paid dirt, which means these scandals were always a given. The match fixing has happened since day one, it just took a while to find culprits and proof. And it will happen in every 'esport' scene in Korea, and continue to happen in every iteration of starcraft. It can at least decline in the future, somewhat, when korean teams realize they have to have a more egalitarian pay scale in order to invest in future players, but until then, bobs your uncle.

bet of an existentialist aint ya? bottom line is fixing games is wrong. literally use that example in any major sport and see the reactions. but ur prob still gonna sit there and say "well everyone dies in the end eventually, why does anything matter?"

this does matter and is a big deal whether u want it to be or not. ur not doing anyone favors by saying "match fixing is everywhere guys, its fine". my gripe is not solely on Life was wrong to do what he did (pending), but we wont get to see one of the greatest players of sc2 play again. closest one to bonjwa period.
If you read my post you would clearly identify that im not in favour of cheating.

On a brighter note, Mvp confirmed GOAT.

This is a good takeaway I think.
