Public service and probation, no actual jail time

Lately there have been some match-fixing problems even among top 10 tenis players and hell, they make a lot of money. I would love to see a link to something implicating a current top 10 men or women's player. This is completely false information. Way to sensationalize something completely untrue. He didn't say that the top ten tennis players are fixing matches, but several top players (including Novak) have explicitly stepped forward to say that they have been approached and offered money to throw matches: http://www.si.com/tennis/2016/01/18/novak-djokovic-offered-money-match-fixing That's not the same as actually doing it, and jeeeKyyy didn't say they fixed matches. His point was that athletes can and will be given such offers, regardless of how successful they are. Well, during the latest rumours regarding fixed matches in tennis, it was mentioned that 'players with multiple Grand Slam victories' were suspected. So far no proof ofc, but still...
Correct to an extent. But need to understand the issues much deeper before throwing around important terms without proper context. The player in question was Hewit (multiple sources easily decoded the long numerical code names for all suspected players in a matter of hours), and another follow-up piece that randomly analyzed 8 of his 15 matches in question, found lots of evidence to suggest that because of his up and down injury history and inconsistent play, that certain initial betting lines had been weighted incorrectly, and were quickly corrected, which triggered the match-fixing computer algorithms.
There is clearly lots of corruption in tennis, as in all other sports. But as this demonstrated, simply using a computer algorithm alone is an entirely incomplete and inconclusive science. The suspicious betting for the aforementioned also all occurred after his rather fluky grand slam victories in 2001 and 2002 (total down years in tennis when the men's game was really weak and diluted after Sampras, and before the rise of Federer and Nadal). His career was very inconsistent afterwards due to injuries, ineffectiveness, and largely not being as talented as the new breed of his peers.
Comparing him to Life is absurd. The tennis player most analogous to Life would probably be some mixture of Nadal (back in his prime and now Djoker). Not the perfect ground-strokes and ballet movement of Federer, but the sheer force of will and endless energy to bludgeon you into the dust. The mixture of Nadal/Djoker would also likely be the greatest of all-time. Which is worlds different than Hewitt who no one ever confused as being particularly special even during his peak in the early 2000s (him and Roddick were recognized by non-fanboys at the time as mere placeholders). For someone along the lines of Federer/Nadal/Djoker/Serena (for these are the comparables to Life) to engage in illicit behavior against their sport, the ramifications would be seismic and landscape altering. For these champions are not only very wealthy, but trying their hardest to secure their place in history as the greatest ever (something Life is widely considered to already be in SC2).
It's become common knowledge in recent years that being a professional tennis player is hardly profitable. It's widely estimated that only the top 150 or so on both the men's and women's tour net any profit after all their expenses. Estimates generally place the percentage of tennis pros coming out ahead at 2-3% overall. Which in SC2 terms can be viewed roughly as the 2.67% of global users in Masters/GM (http://nios.kr/sc2/global/1v1/hots/). The critical caveat for this analogy, being that only the top 25 or so on KR GM are winning all the major tournaments and receiving all the big endorsements.
I think that starcraft and tennis are very good comparisons despite their obvious differences. Since both are largely individual sports. Which make cheating (namely betting and match-fixing) extremely tempting and easy to do. Especially in light of the hugely CEO-like prize/endorsement structure where only those at the absolute top reap the lavish profits, while everyone else scratches and claws for whatever is left as it trickles down.

Dadgummit, I've had really bad luck cheering for players in SC2 so far. In BW, I had Stork and Jangbi, two upstanding gents who hung around forever...but in SC2, as soon as I start cheering for someone they retire...and then this.
What I'm saying is, this is totally my fault, guys. I promise to stop joining fan clubs on TL.

I'm confused...are you seriously sad about the fact that Life didn't throw those games, too? O.o

Amazing how greedy you can be at the top of the food chain even, Life is without a doubt in the top 0.1% of pay in the entire scene, literally the poster child for high level Korean Starcraft.
And it still wasn't enough, still needed more money.
I was a gigantic fanboy until I saw this, I know how Asian law works, they don't arrest you until they pretty much got your ass on lock down with a conviction, Life is done.

If he really did that and he's found guilty I'll be done with pro starcraft.

People keep forgetting all the legal money he earned as a minor was on parents-watch.

I'd like to add that even though it's looking really grim for Life it's still not yet 100% certain. If you believe most people on these boards Korean SC2 was already dead and buried weeks ago, so this doesn't make much difference anyway.

Life....always finding ways to fuck you. I hope his games don't include some of the higher levels of competition. Would be a shame if he could have coasted through a ton of tournies but he lost some on purpose to increase betting odds.
TaeJa, stay pure.

What a scandal - Life was the GOAT too. At least Yoda and Prime were seen as fringe players (Yoda had some good runs, but wasn't really a big star)
It's like if we found out that Michael Jordan had been using steroids / match-fixing. After Lance Armstrong, cycling interest in the USA still hasn't recovered
