(Note: The placing of players in each group presumably gives them a higher seeding in terms of who they get for their Code A match. Listed here as first, second, and third).

I think it's a mix of 1st/2nd/3rd place seeding and random draw. Hence Life vs Bunny even though they were in the same qualifying group.

There's also a bunch of 1 vs 2. E.g. Life vs Bunny, TY vs Patience, Maru vs Zest.
So now that the qualifiers are done, can we please start Proleague? :3

I have a really bad feeling about this. Don't you dare retiring, Parting, losing Rain and Parting at the same time would broke my SC2 passion completely.

Maybe, maybe not. He was in ridiculously good shape in the first 6 months of this year but then fell off hard, and his only decent showing since then was Dreamhack which only had 4 Koreans in it.

Don't forget that big part of his show was a participation in foreign tournaments. That's now not that easy(nearly impossible). And he cannot return to any other KeSPA team than T1. Also he said he's not suitable for KeSPA team.
I think Shine didn't expect to be qualified. MC and JYP(GSL Korean commentator, former EG gamer) also participated but they couldn't make it. So i guess they worried not enough players would participate.
이원주(Lee Won Ju, Nickname : 동래굴링, pronounced "Dong-Rae-Guling") is the only qualified semi-pro player.

I like how Blizzards epic plan was to increase price pool across the board so more players have an easier time of making a living. Making it to Code S grants 2.5k, with two seasons per year you can make 5k by reaching Code S. Last year it was 1,5k for Code S while there where three tournaments. The new system probably is utter shit lol

2*2.5 > 3*1.5 though. And in 2015 making Code S was less than 800$, that's a huge increase (although that was probably because of GOM).

Still, a 3rd season would have been great.
Yes but theres only 16 players in Code S. The overall price pool is barely higher then the 2015 GSLs and lower than 2014 GSLs. The new "higher" pricepool for 2016 comes at the price of only 16 players really benefiting of it and also Koreans cant participate in any non korean tournament. Plus the added risk of only 2 seasons per year so its easier to miss out on it. To me it seems Blizzard pretty much screwed the korean professionals.

Code S is 32 players and the prize pool per season for GSL is much higher than 2014 and 2015, especially in Code A.

Overall prize pool of GSL in 2016 = $154k Code S x 2 + $50k Code A S1 + $40k Code A S2 = $438k Overall prize pool of GSL in 2015 = $84k Code S x 3 + $8.6k Code A x2 = $269.2k
The bigger problem isn't about money, it's about overall less tournaments to play in.
450k is also what 3 2014 GSLs had in prices. So its still only an increase compared to 2015 where Gom probably had economical troubles. I expect weekend tournament viewership to decrease drastically thanks to blizzards dickmove. So maybe we only have to endure this bullshit for 1 season

You need to realize that if "viewership decreases drastically thanks to Blizzards dickmove", the next step isn't going to be "bring back the Koreans in weekend tournaments". The next step is going to be "no SC2 in weekend tournaments at all".

Im usually not one to bash Blizzard since i am mainly thankful for giving us sc2 in a time where rts is not popular because people somehow like mobas more. But the new WCS system is just shit. Why would you ban Koreans from weekend tournaments? I dont care a lot about splitting WCS and Korean WCS. Having 8 of 16 people attending the pre-Blizzcon being non koreans through force is kinda stupid, but meh okay whatever then ill start watching from round of 8 onwards. Weekend tourneys without Koreans is something else though. I wont watch them when all my favourite plays aren´t allowed to attend. I feel like im being ripped off something which i genuinely enjoyed for no/dumb reasons.

Adding two SSLs the prize money in Korea from those events alone are closing in on something like $700k, which is the biggest ever, then again, the big problem is the lack of chances/exposure due to only 4 events a year and maybe one or two Kespa Cups instead of 6 GSL/SSL then some.

He's waiting for enlistment. A while ago, he said that it was "full" so he couldn't go when he wanted. I assume most pros that are retiring but still playing are waiting for the same thing. Spots to open.

His point was that Elroye isn't korean. Bunny is..
ayy, I'm still worried for Zest, as all Zest's fan should be with how inconsistent he is... but then both Maru and Zest failed to qualify for SSL so their match should be extremely amazing to watch, or at least that's what I think and if the Shine playing the is same Shine that retired, I would be so mad because he still qualifies for the thing, if only his spot could be given to MC, but that would probably never happen.
What's funny is that outside of maybe 2 matches (impact vs solar, Bbyong vs LWJ) there isn't a single result that would surprise me. Taeja loses to Blaze? It's a miracle he got this far! INno loses to Stork? Something something INno protoss. Jjakji beats Classic? Of course he does, dudes been legit since last year's Blizzcon, LotV just gave him the fresh start he needed.
I'll believe literally anything. Except Impact having a snowball's chance in the inferno.

i imagine three best of 5's a day
They have 8 days of Code A assuming they keep the Wednesday/Friday schedule, they'll have to have 4 series on most days.
Last year they spilled over into 3/4 days for Code A, and given the reduced SSL schedule I can see them doing it again. Alternatively, Proleague has yet to be announced, so they could use Monday / Tuesday for the time being

Code A starts January 8 and ends February 3rd, I don't see why they would stretch it out by that many days considering LotV BO5s probably aren't that long.

The issue runs deeper than just the number of tournaments. I would argue that 2013 and 2014s 3 premiers, even without end of season WCS events, would be preferable to the 4 we have now.
Not only will there be a massive break between the two seasons, but the two tournaments we have run concurrently. That means anyone who hasn't adjusted to LOTV yet, anyone who's taking a break, anyone who's just having a rough TWO WEEKS, will have their results impacted for 50% of the years tournaments. Not even 33% as it would have been back in 2013.
But wait there's still Blizzard's cross tournament! Not if you don't play the other tournaments there isn't. Blizzcon? Good luck racking up enough points when you've missed two seasons and the cross tournament based on two weeks.
I don't know who or why thought it was a good idea for SSL and GSL to run concurrently if we lose two tournaments and half of every SSL besides.
I was never huge on Proleague but this year I don't think I'll have a choice.
