Starcraft Jeopardy is a new project from the SC2CTL Team.
There's a lot of interesting Starcraft projects and shows that exist, but most of them are all about playing the game and being directly involved with the game. Talk shows about tournaments, showmatches, etc. I think there's so much more room for growth by branching out into other topics, so I'm doing a trial run!
The game will be run in Jeopardy-style, categories with 5 questions each of increasing difficulty and value, questions are answers, answers are questions, etc.
Jeopardy is a game show that's essentially just trivia questions.
There's a set of categories of questions that are all related in some way to the category. The questions are in ascending difficulty and value, eg. the easiest question is worth 200, a harder one worth 400, etc. From there it's question and answer with the person who was correct getting to choose the next question.
When each question is read there's a "buzzer" - if you buzz in first you get to answer the question.
The gimmick with Jeopardy is that "all questions are answers" and "all answers are questions". So for example, you might pick the category "Protoss for 200". The "question" would be "This protoss unit from the gateway is equipped with Psy-blades" - which you would reply with "What is a zealot?".
The host provides the "answer" and the guests provide the "question" that completes that answer.
There are also special questions called "daily doubles" that allow you to wager any amount of points you've already earned for the chance of doubling them. They make it easier to catch up/get further ahead.

Jeopardy is a very simple, fast-paced American quiz show. 3 contestants are given 6 categories of trivia, with 5 ascending question values. One player will select a question from the board ("I'll take "Name of category here" for "Question value here"). The question is read out, and the first player to "buzz in" is give the chance to answer. If they were correct, they were give that many poits or dollars and allowed to select the next question. If they were incorrect, they lose that many points or dollars and other contestant may try. After all questions are exhausted, a second round begins with 6 new categories, where all question values are twice they were from Round 1.
There are also 2 hidden "Daily Doubles" in each round. If a contestant finds a "Daily Double", they may wager as many or as few points/dollars as they choose on that question (sight unseen), and they are the only person who may answer that question. Right or wrong, they will still select the next question in that case.
The third and Final Round consists of one single question. The category is shown to the contestants, each of them decide how much they would like to wager (could be everything they have, could be actually zero), and all 3 of them write down their answer to the question in secret, before all of the answers and wagers are revealed and applied. Whomever has the most points at the end of the game is the winner.
The defining character trait of Jeopardy is that all answers must be given in the form of a question. For example, one clue might be "this upgrade is usually the first one researched by a Protoss", the answer would not be "Warpgate", it would be "What is Warpgate?"
The show is great. When I saw that the thing was over 40 minutes long I though there's no way I would watch the whole thing, but I did. Can't wait for the VOD of ep 2.
Just watched episode 2, was awesome, though you shuold skip the homo.... category. Was a bit confusing and required knowledged of things unrelated to Starcraft (I had no idea who Nick Rogers was either and I still have no idea what you is meant by Marine Marine).
RE: The Homophones category: I agree it didn't turn out exactly like I'd planned, but I'd still like to try similar things. Wordplay is a big part of Jeopardy and I'm a huge fan of wordplay. Nick Rogers perhaps was a bit TOO much on the outside knowledge though. Marine Marine is because Tychus Findlay is an SC2 Marine, and "marine" is an adjective for things pertaining to the ocean. So if a Marine is going swimming he's a "marine" Marine

Just remember to give answers and not questions like in the picture I posted :D will watch ep2 later
Great show! Also the ending with eternal winter was awesome. I had a really good time with both VODs so far. Cannot wait until the next show, this is why I look only on finished series!!!! Damn you for creating such a good show!
Also Jakatak... aw yeah! Let's hope his buzzer finger is in a good shape!
Great show and great hosting! You really balance well between the role of a regular tv game show host stereotype and a normal, casual person from the community. Can't wait for this to explode so that you can get people like Day9 on it in the future. : )

Lol, Nick Rogers is no one.
I believe he meant Steve Rogers, who is the real Captain America. Even I had a wtf face when that question came up.
I don't know, man, I don't think that alternative answer to "Viking Flower" should've been accepted there. I thought Viking Flower was pretty much the definitive name for that technique. :l
Fun episode, and way to go Pengwin on actually answering a lore question. I would've been so sad if no one had gotten that. :D

You are right, more lore questions! Just from the game, no books or stuff around, but more questions from the story line
Let the pros burn in shame because they do not play the game!
I've never played either of the campaigns - that's why the lore questions are relatively weak. I simply just don't have the knowledge base. The lore questions I do have come from reading synopses and summaries in wiki articles.
Wiki should be enough, but I expect that some single player players will send you some questions My memory of goldfish will try to remember the task...

Who's responsible for updating the TL calendar? It would be cool if the next SC2 Jeopardy was featured in it, since I feel like I'm gonna get confused by time zones and miss it otherwise!

That's my responsibility. I was late submitting this week, but it's approved now.
The next show's date with timezone conversions are always available on https://sc2ctl.com/jeopardy. If your timezone is not represented there you can just ping me and I'll add it to the list

Honestly, simply because European times are inconvenient for me, and I'm the one hosting. While it's a little bit more fun to watch live, it's also perfectly fun to watch the VODs, which we try to put out same-day so that the Europeans can watch when they wake up. It's the best I can do =\

It seems that his victory has been taken away on account of the given answer for the last question being wrong...
A quick Liquipedia check says that the Mothership Core would be the correct answer, so that means Pengwin would be the proper winner, despite him seemingly not knowing he's allowed to bet zero.
I'm any event, having finally been able to watch this live, it was a blast, and the channel earned a follow from me.
We've appended an explanation to the VOD - PengWin is actually the proper winner. The root cause of this was me being a Terran player and not knowing which spells were on the Mothership only and which ones were on the MSC. The liquipedia spells page was out of date, leading to incorrect research both by me, and the guys who verified it.
We're moving on. Brief hiccup. This is why I need to buy a staff, but I don't have enough eSports dollars.

Great show. Yeah betting zero would make sense, since it would guarantee his return no matter what. Unless he feared Jakatak so much that he wanted to crush him no matter what?
Starcraft Jeopardy has also launched a Patreon to fund the show for future episodes, if you like what you see, please consider contributing here: https://www.patreon.com/sc2ctl . If you don't want to contribute that's fine too, following the show and enjoying it is enough for us
The least microable unit (based on damagepoint and turnrate) is the Thor when it attacks vs ground units. Also I am pretty sure DTs are in second place.

This does happen often, yes. And the problem lies in the contestant selection process. Currently, there are low enough contestant applications, that basically anyone who emails me gets on (though they are increasing now).
In actual Jeopardy people have to apply *and* pass a test *and* pass a live interview. So by the time they get to an actual show, you know they're competitive. I don't really have this luxury, so it can be a bit of a crapshoot with contestant knowledge.

just ensure the third person is good, I'll give us a show to remember

Ah, but the devil is in the details, because sometimes it's the *second* person who's lagging behind =P
But for real, next show we have Arium and QueenE in the mYi team kill, I think that should be good, and the following show we're in discussions to have TL_banjoe, which, if PengWin isn't dead by then, could very well be the nail in the coffin.

I asked about Stuchiu, but I wouldn't hold your breath. Honestly, if he's as good as everyone says he is, I'm not sure if I *want* him right now. We've seen the domination PengWin has laid down, I'm not sure replacing one tyrant with another is the best strategy going forward.
That being said tomorrow's show should be great! mYi team kill incoming!

For Frenchies it's like "Questions pour un champion" or "Qui veux gagner des millions ?"
Jeopardy was also in france (maybe still is somewhere? I haven't watched tv in a loooooooooooong time). The two above are the standard question/answer type. Jeopardy is the only one I can think of where you're given the answer and have to tell the question.
Arium trying to justify googling the answers by saying I wasn't told :/. Still another good episode. Pengwin is like the Hyun of this show. He'll probably run out of stories before he runs out of answers.

Peanuts will go the way of Zerg (yes that's actually a person's name) and Leenock, losing next episode.
I'm surprised that the contestants don't know final Jeopardy wagering strategy. Peanut was betting on banjoe failing the question, which I valid though risky. banjoe's bet was just wrong; there was no point in betting that much.
RE: Final Jeopardy betting - absolutely! The contestants should read some of what Arthur Chu wrote during his time. His game theory strategies and playing to tie are very solid final jeopardy strategies.

Playing to tie no longer works as well due to the rule changes, but yeah. And also the contestants could just pull up a wagering calculator during the break for final Jeopardy, though of course Chu's strategies still help for the regular rounds.

People are missing points on basic unit facts like "what upgrades are for what units" etc. I feel like these contestants don't really even play?
Feel free to apply to be a contestant. There's a really low barrier to entry - just email jeopardy@sc2ctl.com. We're actually pretty close to out of contestants who've applied. The couple in the queue are on vacations or are busy, so I actually had to seek out intense this week so we'd still have a show.
Yeah we need some community figures doing this shit. Well knowns. Even though Fenner did horribly I loved watching him.
I don't really want to hate on unknowns because it is a neat and fun opportunity, but the community figures who are regularly on camera, know how to be funny and entertaining on camera.

Please harass them and say you want to see them on this show. For the most part they've either ignored or declined my invites (and I've invited a lot of people)
I certainly haven't caught every episode but I do want to chime in for what its worth and let you know that I've LOVED watching this every time I've taken the time. You've done a great job so far and I'd love to see a season 2! Bummer that some larger personalities aren't yet interested in setting aside the hour or so to give this a shot, but if you do keep going I would bet there will eventually be a turning point where more and more folks will realize its just a fun time and will hop on. I'm surprised that Rotterdam and Nathanias haven't given it a shot yet!
Is this live Toronto finale going to be at Basetrade.tv's live event?

To be fair the requirement was pylon energy, wasn't it? So warp prism is OK, but it was weird.
