Pinnacle voids Dark vs. San bets due to match manipulation…

Matchfixing is a very serious offence and accusations of matchfixing should not be made lightly. Please avoid making accusations against specific individuals unless you have substantial proof, or until further information is released. (0620 KST)

I could see it happening perhaps just before they plan on retiring. (Inbefore someone says he's planning on retiring because of health and he that's another thing to add to the circumstantial evidence)

The upside is he gets 2k, the downside is his team loses a game they were overwhelmingly likely to lose anyway. So say it comes to match score to see who gets into the playoffs this round, and ST-Yoe are down by 1 game and get knocked out. Who's fault is that now?

Pinnacle would not refund the bets unless they had pretty conclusive evidence. That's what people are not realizing. I assume we know relatively little about player salaries but put yourself in the place of the players making peanuts. Someone offers you 2k to lose one random match that will be quickly forgotten about if you win the next few after that. How many of these guys are saying no to that? That's why this will always be a threat. [/QUOTE I doubt San is only making peanuts, but you also have to think that would he risk his ENTIRE career on something like this. Blaming someone for match fixing is the E-sport equivalent of saying someone is a pedophile and as long as there is no proof of San´s guilt we should be careful not to blame him or anyone.

Because it's very far from proven that any matchfixing occurred. That should be reason enough for this not to be front page community news. All we know is that a lot of bets were placed on Dark late and San didn't play very well. If you claim based on that that you think matchfixing occurred, then you need to learn what a leap of logic is. Of course this is news worthy. The only thing we know is that Pinnacle has suspicions of betting manipulation. It's not a far leap to assume their suspicions are correct as this is their business and they are a major, major player. But this leaves us with so many questions. We just don't know who or why the betting was manipulated. Could they be testing the fraud detection? Could they have found some flaw in Pinnacle's software they tried to exploit? Was some Saudi prince drunk one night / lost a bar bet? And of course, was the match actually fixed? Clearly we don't know which if any are the case. But most of the possibilities would have pretty serious consequences for SC2 no? eSports is hardly a squeaky clean business despite what we wish for, remember the all the fake / shady teams? Remember Solar being offered money to throw a game (thanks for the reminder Aeromi)? Remember how Coco-Byun were banned for actually fixing a game? (even if you think Coco - Byun were messing around, Coco still literally threw the game). Edit: Oh ya, WCS Axiom, just #1230981203981 for why I'm a Crank anti-fan.

There was also a match fixing ring. And there was far more involved in that investigation than a single odd betting pattern. You cannot apply the same label to San as Savior because of ONE match being thrown out.

Not gonna throw stones at kids who play games for a living for a small salary taking a fat chunk of cash to lose an extra game here or there, not really all that irrational. Grown men and women make worse decisions than that every day. Your posting history is awful. San makes ~100k $ last year, he plays the best team league ever on a decent team. There is no proof of him match fixing his own match.

Do you even read what other people post? It may not be irrational to you but that's probably because you really don't have a clue at all how it works.

Match-fixing has happened before and it's happening now. If you had any doubt, look no further than Soler saying he was offered 2k to throw a game. You think every single player is as conscientious as he is? So when stuff like this happens, it should be taken very seriously. Good luck policing your game, hopefully there are enough people who want to remain vigilant and realistic about this stuff to keep it somewhat in check. I hope so, since I enjoy watching the games every now and again.
