lol, it appears that you actually can wait in that case.

Awesome. Love such little documentaries about stacraft and the players.

In my opinion one of the better documentaries about Starcraft out there. Really enjoyed it

HerO <3
I really hope he wins a championship again like the good old times!

I really think HerO could do with some sports psychology. After watching this excellent piece live on dreamhack earlier, it seems he is his own worst enemy.
Great documentary, need to dig up the Smash one Artosis mentioned now.

I was slightly confused as to who it was pitched at. There's explanation of basics like the races in SC2, but then no explanation of some other "jargon" such as talking about builds/build orders, which might be understandable by the gaming crowd in general, but then the way that the races are explained is as if to a non-gamer.
It was interesting, but I wasn't entirely sure who/what level it was being pitched at in terms of audience, because it seemed to try and have a bit for everyone without having enough to be cohesive for any one group except maybe casual gamers with some RTS type game understanding (including MOBA games) but no knowledge of Starcraft.

Check out the VOD of dreamhack from earlier where this was premiered, the director goes into detail touching on this very topic.
edit: The panel gave him a shortish interview after it played.

Samox such a beast hopefully he will continue to do esports pieces. What a pleasure.
|
this one was okay, but doing HerO vs Puma is so... random. It just isn't as good as the Smash Bros one.
|
If u want to do a serious documentary, please don't use dubstep.
Without dubstep it could be a perfect film
|
A solid 20+ minutes of circlejerking, questionable choice for SC2 focus, an overly sappy "ending", no mention of people like Bisu, Savior, Boxer for SC or MC, Mvp, Nestea for SC2, and rather sparse interviews. For a first episode, I suppose it's excusable, as many TV pilot episodes also lack in quality when compared to regular episodes. But if this is supposed to turn into a noteworthy documentary series, then there's much work to be done.

You are really tough to please if that's what you think after watching. This is one of the better pieces of content I have seen done about StarCraft and it didn't even need a kickstarter.

I guess each person is entitle to their opinion and you should not get angry about it in a forum.
I think the documentaries would be better if they focused on 1 player at the time and if they took time to tell the story slowly instead of jumping into the ending so fast. Ex. Flash was a newbie >>>> BOOM>>> he became the God of Starcraft >>end of story>>>lets switch to sc2 now.
If you plan to do a documentary on SC2 then support your documentaries with the real "Gods" of starcraft 2. Do not bounce to BW and then give like 5 seconds of fame to Sc2.

It's not even 30 minutes long. How are you proposing they should have done it?

I think I'll quote this every few pages or so.

I found it really interesting and fun to watch. My only gripe is I wish it lasted longer haha.
|
It was okay. There are better, there are worse.
|
I almost cried when i saw HerO win DreamHack, I remember watching that epic ass tournament years ago... You can truly see how awestruck he was.
|
So around ~3:00 they give cameos to the old school brood war players, boxer, nada, yellow... wait that's not yellow, that's yellow[arnc].... oops?
|
The only think I have to complain.
Jaedong: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOO vs Flash: WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
then...
HerO vs Puma: ???????????????????????
no Mvp? Nestea? MarineKing? or maybe... Stephano(for a europe focus)?
But of course, it is great. I hope to see more of this!

i think you're confusing the aims of this content to the smash bros documentary.
remember this is the story of R A Z E R B O Y Z not SC2.

This is one of the better pieces of content I have seen done about StarCraft and it didn't even need a kickstarter. I'm not really that tough to please, as the things that I think are wrong with the SC episode are rather obvious, instead of being some arbitrary nitpicks. The whole episode just feels like someone had an idea to do another recap of the Flash/Jaedong rivalry and then tossed in whatever other bits of almost randomly chosen info in there to make it about SC in general, including the Hero focus and the whole 30 seconds of info about the game itself. I mean, no offense, but I think there are more worthwhile players for a documentary in the SC2 scene than Hero, and the obvious SC bias of the whole thing doesn't help either. I know that SC was the more important, influential, and popular of the two games in South Korea, which is apparently all that matters in the world of SC, but that doesn't mean that a documentary should skimp on SC2 as it did, as documentaries should be unbiased, objective, and thorough.
On November 30 2014 08:41 kuresuti wrote: It's not even 30 minutes long. How are you proposing they should have done it?
For starters, they should've made it 60 minutes long, at least. This isn't a TV show, so I don't see a reason to limit the running time to 25 minutes. That way, they could've dedicated half an hour to each game, and that would've given them enough time to properly introduce and explain each game, talk about the history and current status, show some actual interviews, and do a proper coverage of the most important players. I mean, the next two episodes will be covering a single subject as well, but they're giving an episode each to a separate game. Why couldn't SC get the same treatment?
|
holy moly I completely forgot about that Dreamhack 2011. Literally made me cry - I was such a HerO fanboy, but loss after loss made me feel worse and worse. It hurt to see him go down all the time. After IEM Cologne (I was there in the audience), I felt like an aera was over. Somehow I stopped cheering for him although he showed great games and rightfully won that really sick event. Thanks for reminding me. Great documentation.

What is this StarCraft 2? Kappa

You're juxtaposing one of the greatest rivalries in all of SC:BW with Hero vs Puma. Now I love Hero vs Puma as a story, and I love Flash vs Jaedong as a story - but the juxtaposition felt really off. (I legitimately thought the second part was going to be about MC when they started talking about a BW dropout).
Then you have Yellow[arnc] getting confused with YellOw (how did that get through), BW timelines a little messed up (eg. Flash was the ultimate weapon long before he became God and the majority of JD/Flash would have been tyrant vs ultimate weapon, Flash won GSI before OSL whereas it's implied the reverse and so on). Aside from Artosis and the progamers, the people interviewed were a little questionable (I mean, what did they really add to the film other than a break from the narrator).
While a lot better than anything we've had before, there's definitely room for criticism here

the narrator is kind of boring, the timeline is not really clear to me for some events described in the documentary, but my biggest remark is not saying it was reach's poster on all of girls walls. that kind of sealed the 1/10 score from start for me. :D
|
Quality !! Nostalgia !! However, thats the wrong freaking yellow

It's cool, it was for a "mainstream" audience not the TL elite... can't that be enough? jeez
|
This was a great documentary. It gets me so hyped to play after watching it!
|
I'd have to agree some parts feel very wrong and random. Lots of wrong/oddly placed information, very questionnable choice of players and people being interviewed, The HerO/PuMa rivalry is just nowhere near as important and relevant as the Flash/Jaedong one. Sponsorship-biaised focus is a bit too obvious to take this documentary seriously. It's not terrible but it's not really good either.

I hated the narrator's voice, the constant dubstep, the awful sound and also the low-quality video segments. I'm pretty sure OGN has better ones in their archives. I don't think HerO vs PuMa is a part of SC2 history I'd mention in a short documentary. Neither Mvp nor Nestea nor MC was even mentioned and those three were arguably the most dominating players in WoL. The whole documentary just didn't seem "round": It looked like it was building up to the KeSPA switch to SC2, but that plot line got completely erased in the second half. All in all, it didn't reach my expactations, especially because it was the guy who made the Smash doc.

Man, this really made me miss following Flash in Broodwar.
|
It was alright. The Flash v Jaedong storyline was nice and well done, but the HerO/PuMa piece was very random. It was about 3 years ago that that happened. And while I love both te players, they definitely aren't defining players in SC2.
Seemed a little rushed on the sc2 side, and had footage used from other films and casts to buffer it. And a lot of jargon.
Was better than SOS though.

great video, kind of wish they had picked a different focus (MC, bisu, or stork?) rather than Hero, he just seemed so random at the end (I know that they def. prefer promoting their sponsored players, so I understand their choice, but still)

Can't comment on the selection of players/games but for someone like me who didn't follow Sc1 and jumped on the Sc2 wagon somewhat late, this was really interesting to watch. It made me wish I'd started to follow the game earlier instead of when its popularity was slowly starting to decline.
Hope to see more of these documentaries.

I'm sure KT Rolster enjoys having their star player being put on the same level as permanently banned matchfixer yellow by their sponsor company Razer
|
I liked it, but I hope they eventually touch on sc2 again, maybe do it through a player whose been around the whole time like MC (Taeja, Polt, or Maru would also work I think). That way it wouldn't feel like it's jumping around as much. Still, good first episode.

Well this video is targeted to a foreign audience, I don't think many people would recognize him, a part from a few BW fans. If I'm not wrong Yellow[Arnc] is not nominated during the video, it just appears for a brief moment.
|
I'm very disappointed that the unarguably best game in sc2 history "Nestea vs Goody" @TSL3 is not mentioned:-(
|
That tyrant intro is pretty bad ass.
|
Yea why not just make this video mainly about BW and a protoss from BW, and save another episode for SC2.
|
So intense watching this again. So great. Really nice work!

How did they get yellow wrong? jeez.

Team Evil Geniuses is one of the most elite progaming teams on the planet.
Not in SC2 lolz

Very nice documentary. Really enjoyed it.
The transition from JD vs flash into puma vs hero is a bit weird, allthough the story is kinda cool. But it misses the big thing sc2 brought into the gaming and esports scene which is global competition. Only since sc2 you have foreigners consistently being in the top half of the tournament brackets, which would be almost impossible during the height of bw.
Btw this kinda leads to a question that is stuck in my head for a while now: How come that the very top bw players don't dominate as much as they did after the transition? I think nobody would have dared to even think that back in the day. Is it more based on the fact that sc2 demands a different skillset or is it just a natural thing to not have the same guys dominating for such a long time?
