![[image loading]](http://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/blog_header/l8/L8XVBX3IRSF91409078699442.jpg) Hey everyone! This is Ryan from GameHeart. As many of you may know, I recently had the opportunity to spend some time at Blizzard to work on an official WCS version of GameHeart. That project is nearly complete and is will soon be available for testing on the 2.1.4 PTR. In this blog I am going to give you an overview of the different features and changes we have made in our work on WCS GameHeart. If you want more detail about these features, the project, and my time at Blizzard please check out my more comprehensive blog over on Team Liquid which will be coming soon. There were four main parts to this project: - The WCS GameHeart extension mod
- New StarCraft II gameplay features
- An entirely new type of StarCraft II mod called “Logos.SC2Mod”
- The WCS 2.0 interface
Ryan goes on to explain each of these. The WCS GameHeart extension mod will include the following features
- Production Labels
- Upgrade Notifications
- Workers Killed Notifications
- Map Notifications (e.g. scans)
The StarCraft II gameplay features include
- Stronger Team Colors
- Team Colored Effects
- Logo Support
The Interface Mod will include
- Changing between 16x9 and 16x10 resolutions
- Cycle panels to cycle through information (e.g. supply, workers, income)
- Player name overwrite (e.g. IIIIIIIIII changed to a player name)
- Custom player intros
For a complete description check out the original source. It's worth noting that features like stronger team colors will be available on the ladder. It's really awesome to see Ryan and Blizzard come together to make this happen. All of the staff have been watching in awe of the GameHeart project development going on in the GameHeart thread. We eagerly await his more comprehensive blog post!

Sniped! But srsly this is the best thing SC2 has ever seen.
|
|
Excellent!! Glad to see Blizzard noticing this great mod!
|
This is so cool, team colours and effects on the ladder, and player intro screens in WCS. Epic! Also no more barcodes in tournaments :D.

Excellent. Glad blizzard adapted to this.
|
strong colours and coloured effects on ladder is going to be so nice to use.
|
Doope, and well deserved!
|
Very cool that blizzard wanted to work with u , ty for this great contribute Ryan
|
Oh man, finally! their interface is just .... well I better hold my tongue if I dont want a warning
This looks really awesome! Can't wait!
Will this be ready at least for blizzcon?
|
YES, finally it's about damn time! Good to see Blizzard embrace the community. I'm really excited to see what the custom player intros will be like
|
Beautiful, glad Blizz took their time to release this the proper way.
|
It's about fucking time. GameHeart is so cool.
|
Now ladder will look a lot more awesome!! any idea when this patch is coming out?
|

Does this include GSL? I don't really watch any other "WCS" event..

Strong team colors and team color effects as a default option?! Fantastic work!
+ Show Spoiler +"Stronger Team Colors That’s right; you can now use Stronger Team Colors in your ladder games! And rather than being an on or off setting, you can actually decide how intense you want the colors to be by using the “Team Color Intensity” slider in your gameplay options."
"Team Colored Effects Team Colored Effects (EMP, Scanner Sweep, Time Warp, and Mothership Core) have also been made an official option in the gameplay menu."

So many cool features, but ugh, I will never get used to the mineral/supply number locations .

So is this the DH interface? If so this is dope as shit

Yeah they used it for some groups for Ro32 I believe, would like for this to be implemented in the GSL aswell.
Fingers crossed

It doesn't quite work that way. You have to have their name already setup in a Logos.SC2Mod and then you just pick it from a dropdown list but it is not very difficult to setup a Logos.SC2Mod on the fly.

Wahoo! Thanks Gameheart for all the hard work! This looks great!

sick! hype train starts here
|
ALSO... props to Ryan guy and the Gameheart, I enjoyed that capture the flag game a lot. aswell
|
Hell it's about time. I don't know why they didn't call Ryan in straight away instead of creating that monstrosity they insisted on using for WCS. Clearly the man for the job. And there's nothing more naff looking than seeing a barcode name in a tournament game, a workaround although that should be a DQ IMO.
|
Really excited that they are going to allow stronger team colors for players, but I'm guessing its just a color intensity slider from what he described... So things like banelings will still all be green instead of having their acid sac glow with the player's color
|
Warms my heart to see the game I love getting better ^^
|
I'm hoping for stronger team colors in broadcasted games. Don't really know why Blizzard opted for the brown and gray modern FPS color scheme for SC2.
|
The fucking sickest thing I've seen. Shows how amazing the editor and shit is, and how amazing everyone involved are for creating something as cool and smooth as this.
I love you guys.

Wow finally Blizzard took a nice step to making the default replay look good again :D Well done to Mr Gameheart and all involved in making it :D
Can't wait to see this live.
|
the hype is through the roof!
|
ESPORTS = SAVED
So excited for these features. It was good seeing them in numerous non-WCS tournaments, and seeing them in WCS will be great. Adding the other Gameheart features to the SC2 base game is much more than I expected, and it should spice things up considering the recent lull in updates.
|
|
Wow, great news again! So awesome!
|
The custom player intros look pretty neat!
|
This is so sick, gratz Ryan
|
Wow, this is absolutely amazing news!! :D
|
Good, though I'll probably not use stronger team colors and colored team effects ; I'm glad they were added as an option.
Edit : I actually don't like the tab that cycles through infos. I'd have preferred the tab to display supplies + resources, there was enough place for both. Overall impressive work nevertheless.
|
Wow, impressive! Thanks for making SC2 even more fun to watch!

Given the features will enter PTR first, I don't think WCS will adopt them that fast, unless only the stronger team colors and team color effects will be in the PTR while the mod itself will be available out of the PTR.

Sick! The name-overriding will be so useful for qualifiers and the likes.
|
Good stuff

Crazy! What a partnership and what future potential for viewer nerdchills!

Stronger team colors finally back? Time to get top 16 gm again. :D
I have to say I am glad it is finally coming back. I know a few others consistently brought it up with me and even necroed the STC thread a few times. Really makes me happy :D

I agree, I'd rather have all the info displayed than have it cycle though. I hope that's an option or something

I haven't been able to find this so I imagine that means it is not a feature but I will ask anyway.
Anybody know if banelings will blow up green still or will they be filled with red/blue goo?
|
My favourite part of all of this is how stronger team colours is now officially supported by Blizzard. After all this time and Blizz's stated interest in doing it, it's now a reality. The new gameheart UI is looking SICK as well.
|
Maybe I am missing something, but will this make it the default for ladder games (or am I missing something obvious on how to use GameHeart to watch my ladder games anyways).

Ah, cool thanks.
I guess it's neat that WCS is using this, but it seems like a missed opportunity to not get the GH mod to work with standard replays. Although, I know basically none of the details as to how possible that might actually be.

|
This is amazing. So glad that Blizz actually brought Ryan in to work on this.
Gratz, buddy.
|
This is awesome and something WCS really needs. GameHeart is such a great extension mod that i'd be happy to only ever see games observed on it.
|
GameHeart is one of the better things to happen to pro SC2, as much shit we may give blizz, the opportunity for the community and people outside blizzard to fully customize within the game like this is just beautiful. I'm so stoked to watch WCS with GH, and these " Custom player intros " sounds so hype

Yeah I agree. Mostly really sweet, just wish that it was more like the current GSL interface where you can see both at once

10/10, would read again
Things like this make SC2 thrive. Great job.

Hell, it's about time....

That emp looks so much better with the mod

It's ALWAYS cool news whenever I see "GameHeart" in the title, this is so sick :D Can't wait for the patch

Does this mean we will get stronger team colored ZvZ?

Really nice! I am glad that Blizzard picked you up to do this. Huge improvements for all

I agree with everyone, this is a great news ! And congratz to the people behind GameHeart, your hardwork is paying off !

Finally we get our Stronger Team Colors for the ladder back! Hell... It's about time! No, seriously. I wonder what took Blizzard so long. Ryan, you're the man! Punch DK for me while you're at it ;-)

Christmas banelings will be there too!
When the slider is maxed out, it's pretty intense. You definitely still get the Baneling light bulb effect. The slider really allows for more customization. Some players may like the default color settings, some may want a minor boost, and some may prefer a major boost. Having the slider allows everyone too customize the intensity to their liking.

Stronger Team Colors,Player name overwrite (e.g. IIIIIIIIII changed to a player name),Custom player intros!Awww yeah!<3
|
|
very great!
When used in conjunction with the WCS GameHeart extension mod it features a cycler panel which cycles through different information every 5 seconds. This is the only thing I dislike. "switching" is annoying for eyes and I dont think we need to know all 5 sec the counts/ratio of workers/army.
|
Great Job to everyone involved!
Looks great. One thing I like is how it looks more similar to a standard competitive sporting event screen.
It will be easier for someone who has never seen the game before to know at a glance who is ahead in the series and the rotating information will provide a vague idea who is ahead in game (bigger numbers are better).
The new intros should help provide some context of who the players are and what they have accomplished recently (along with the casters).
I am looking forward to seeing some tournaments utilizing it.
|
This is so coooooool! :D Cant thank you enough for your work! Just keep going <3 THX!
|
Like a year too late... But better late than never I. Good stuff!
|
This makes me so unbelievably happy. From the first time I saw GameHeart I knew that Blizzard would pick the guy up eventually and I'm glad it happened. It's a bit late indeed... but hopefully Blizzard learns from this, and realizes that the spirit of the community is something that is worth latching on to immediately sometimes.
|
Wow, these things look great.

sick... GameHeart saving eSports!

This is so important for StarCraft. Now we just need those team sponsors permanently turned on.

Yeah I saw the extra modes for regular replay watching. Was hoping it would be available to regular ol'people. Will test out tonight, though.
Actually, can someone confirm that there is WCS GH capability in ladder replays?

Did I miss his blog? Because the patch is aparently already live on NA and I haven't yet found a guide for that Logos mod. Edit: I found a guide by gawliq.

does anyone know whether the current downtime is just battle.net maintenance or if it's related to the gameheart patch? i just assumed blindly it had something to do with gameheart, but people seem to be saying they just have the battle.net servers offline. in the client it just says "the service will be unavailable" which is not clear

I have to say that i really dislike the new overlay. From a design point of view, the size of the information displayed is all over the place and the weird position at the bottom of the screen leads to missing important ingame stuff because you are looking for information at the top, where it usual is (in about every digital and print medium). As a viewer i find it most annoying that i am not able to see minerals, gas, income, production, upgrades, workers, army, overall supply at once. Stripping down SC2 to overall supply, mins, gas and production feels like watching the game with one eye closed purely relying on the observer to show you what YOU want to see at that moment. Not to mention the bazillion other things that were listed by others in the WCS Threads.
I really hope this gets improved big time before future tournaments as it lessens the viewerexperience quite a bit.
|
I agree with Jvattic : I don't really care about the global design of this new overley (the one used in WCS EU) but I think we should be able to see at any time :
-The global supply -The bank -The workers count -The upgrades -Production or units
With the new overlay, I feel like only one or two of this information are shown, wich is very sad in comparison with how good the previous one were
|

I don't mind it, perhaps add a little more things to the part of the overlay that is always on, but I do like the minimalist element of it.
I think it's got a bit too much bashing, especially some of the stuff on r/Starcraft which was ridiculous
|
GomTV and KESPA uses the UI the best. These new WCS UIs are absolute shit.

No interface is ever going to satisfy everyone, perhaps the best solution for premier tournaments is to show two streams (one with a minimal interface and the other with a GSL style).
Hopefully with LotV, we'll be able to watch the game within the client and select a custom interface with the raw game data.

Yeah this. I am a bit boggled by this new overlay it's like their goal was to show as little information as possible and to blow it up as much as possible so that it takes up a lot of room on screen. So instead of trading off between minimalist/more information they did neither.

I agree with this 100%. It's been just painful to watch WCS due to the lack of information on screen. Hope it can improve soon.
