We’ve just published a new Balance Test Map to the StarCraft II Custom Games list titled " MerryGoRoundLE (2.1.1 Balance v1.0)" in order to test a couple of Terran balance tweaks in Heart of the Swarm multiplayer. During this testing phase, please keep in mind that none of the changes listed below are final. Our plan is to first explore how each change impacts the game and potentially test additional changes after reviewing your feedback. Let's have a look at what you'll be testing: Terran- Removed Transformation Servos upgrade
- Changed Hellion/Hellbat transform requirement to Armory
Balance Testing Extension ModWe’ve also updated the Extension Mod for balance testing, so that you can try your hand with these changes on maps other than Merry Go Round. Those of you who are interested in trying out the Extension Mod can use the following steps to get a game started: - Navigate to Browse Maps on the Custom Games menu,
- Select a map and click the Create with Mod button in the lower right corner,
- Choose to sort by Blizzard Mods from the dropdown list at the top of the screen.
- Select the “Balance Test Mod” Extension from the list and then hit Create Game.
If you're interested in the StarCraft II Balance Team's reasoning behind each change, you can check out David Kim's recent forum post. We’d like to remind you that feedback based on playtesting is the most helpful information you can share with us at this time. We kindly ask that you spend some time playing games on the test map before offering your thoughts on the changes listed above. As always, thank you for your continued feedback and support. We’d like to restate that none of the changes listed above are final. Once you feel you’ve had enough time to test thoroughly, we welcome you to join us in this discussion thread.

I think if the patch goes through, SC2 will return to a quite balanced status again.
|
"I think" belongs in the other thread, in the balance test map thread, use evidence!
|
I think if the patch goes through there are going to be a lot of LOL TvZ timings.
But it could be interesting.
EDIT - OK TOASTIE!

While Blizzard are at it, they should merge the Hellbat and Hellion on the Production Queue/Unit List as its pretty pointless.

you already have to do that. the reasons hellbat transformation required an upgrade was because hellbat drops and hellbat timings were absolutely ridiculous. you dont need to use that s-s-sarcasm kid.

Yeah precisely a lot of timings. But that's a good thing, given how limited terrans are in that department, having a couple of new tools just to keep people honest or punish greed could go a long way in helping the race.
I'm not sure it will be enough and I think they'll need to adjust some unit stats directly, but we'll see. Maybe some good feedback will push them in the right direction.

Errr. You do remember that most hellbat nerfs were due to TvT, Z and P dealt fine with them if they bothered to scout and prepare.

Good one. Overall the community has a pretty short memory span. I wonder how this will affect TvT.

If you're referring to the Hellbat drop wars, I think it should be noted that the damage to light nerf and Medivac cargo space nerf are still there. Wouldn't 4 Hellions still do more damage to a Mineral line than 2 Hellbats would without Blueflame?

4 hellions were easier to kill than two hellbats with a medivac healing. Hellbat drops in all likelihood are coming back.

Hellbat drops in all likelihood are coming back. Non sens. If terran wanted to drop HB, they would just make HB and drop them. The transformation Servos chance nothing to that. The only thing that will change in TvT are that the opening with mass hellion might encounter a strong following push with hellions transforming into hellbats. But there are lot of weakness to hellbats too : They are much slower and and basically no range.

I like this change a lot, will be cool to see the strats and timings that can surround this!

I personally think the current state of SC2 is super fun. I can't have fun with any other game for near as long as I do with SC2, and I think it will only get better. This change is a good one, and Terrans will be happy. ^^

DK mentioned changes in the long term for Swarm Hosts. Meaning it's quite likely something for LotV. We'll have to "deal" with SHs until then.

The reason Hellbat drops are a problem say because of the inbuilt blue flame upgrade. Which has since been nerfed. The main problems with hell bats are in TvT anyway.
What timings are you speaking of exactly?
Back up your arguments with p-p-proof kid

As someone that goes Hellion heavy mech i like this change a lot.

Zergs that tried to stay ling only usually dropped dead, against Hellions that suddenly became Hellbats in front of their base. Aside from that no one really had problems with the transformation. The "melts workers" bit of Hellbats is not buffed with this. Funny thing that they made Widow mines so bad that lings can a-move, so now they have to bring back Hellbat crap to delay the Zerg Tech, by forcing roaches. Back to square one I guess, but more easy and less awesome.

Protoss actually were pretty OK vs Hellbat drops for the most part once they tweaked a few things.
Aside from theories, anyone any experience with this or figured out some good applications of the upgrade removal yet?

Code S is kinda T free, so we have to wait a bit for BOs to appear.
One TvZ at least is going to be Supernova vs Solar on the 16th, but i doubt they will patch before the Ro32 is over.

I think that's pretty sensible, albeit annoying for me as a Suno fan as he'd definitely make use of any patch to come up with something cool

What will most likely happen is that they are just going fine tune some random stuff, which really won´t help (remember infested terran egg health reduction?). Then the game gets shaken up enough in LotV to make SH obsolete. It would be just like BL/Infestor, the new units change the game enough to make the SH problem go away.

TvZ was fine to for the most part. TvT was horrible though and the main reason behind the nerf.
As far as strategies with the new change, the heavy hellion opening vs Protoss (see Dayshi , ForGG has a few public games to, etc) are substantially buffed in a few ways.
The normal TvZ hellion opening has some more bite to it as well.

No actually stephano loves that type of play style and unit. He was the first one really back in the day in wol to play turtle static d with broodlord infestor..........he loves that sytle.
I hope the Terran changes go live, makes mech a lot better to play.

Stephano was always one to be ahead on the curve strategically, especially when it comes to some of the most boring play styles out there

Won't change much things, just that terrans will finally have decent timings in TvZ. TvP will still be hard for terrans and maybe we'll see some new timings in TvT.
Nice change in overall but not enough to rebalance the game.
